The beginning of this book really hooked me in - The writing style was lovely and I could picture the house and characters really well.

I did find that the pace lagged in the middle - it felt a little repetitive at times. Also, a minor quibble but where did Max go? Adriana didn't appear to need an assistant after the first chapter, so if he was being paid a full time salary he's the luckiest bloke on earth.

The story picked up pace again towards the end, and I thought the ending was very good, albeit a little far-fetched.

Overall I would recommend this book as I did really enjoy reading it.

I laugh. "No need to be so dramatic, I'm only renting a room in North London, not sky diving off Ayers rock."

Seb, a struggling writer soon finds himself in a position where he would be better off skydiving from Ayers rock in this twisty new thriller from A.A. Chaudhuri.

On paper, this sounded exactly my cup of tea, A secluded stunning property, a mysterious, beautiful widow and a likeable young man with secrets of his own.

Initially I found the first person present tense a bit jarring and it took me a while to get used to it. It's not a common technique used in thrillers but I thought it was a brave choice by the author and made this read differently from other thrillers.
I really enjoyed the chapters alternating between the two main characters and the flashback chapters were especially engaging.

I did find it a bit slow to start, the opening chapters were a bit tedious with a lot of explanations about the rental market and Sebastian's reasons. I felt this could have been slightly shorter allowing us to get to the main part of the story.
The author gradually increases the suspense and tension, dropping little clues and information along the way until it all goes insane towards the ends with a tonne of twists and revelations

I loved the Hampstead setting and could perfectly picture the house and why Sebastian couldn't resist accepting the room despite the early signs something was off.
I related to the character of Sebastian much more than Adriana. I found her flashback chapters much more interesting than her present day ones.
The last few chapters were insane and seemed to come out of nowhere. I raced through the last third of the book and I was glad I persevered at the start.

Unfortunately I had guessed one of the major twists relatively early on. I think because the book I read prior to this had a very similar twist I had it in my mind already and had I not read them together it would have been a complete surprise. It did however reduced my enjoyment slightly. There were still plenty of other revelations that were a complete surprise.
Overall I would give this book three Stars. It's a solid psychological thriller but could have been improved by getting into the action a bit quicker, less explanations as to why the characters made the decisions they did and allowing the reader to piece more together for themselves. And because I saw the twist coming I didn't get the shock at the end. It was a quick read and I enjoyed it. I will definitely be checking out the authors other books.

Thank you so much to netgalley and the publisher's for letting me have early access to this book.

good story with an interesting premise. not all to keen on the twist/identity of the stalker. Felt a bit tricked, but it was still a tense thriller.

Sebastian is a young twenty-something who has moved to London to seek closure from the tragedies of his past. An aspiring novelist, he also hopes to write his book and is thrilled to find affordable accommodation in beautiful, upmarket Hampstead.

His landlady Adriana is a beautiful woman and the widow of a very wealthy man, who wants a male lodger because as a single woman living in a huge house, she feels vulnerable. And she may be justified in this view, because as Sebastian begins to realise, it increasingly appears that Adriana may have a stalker.

This book builds the sense of menace and suspense into the storytelling very effectively. The Hampstead house is almost a character in its own right, and the unreliable neighbour adds some spice to the mix.

I think the book would've benefited from being significantly shorter, but the writer's capacity to deliver a very readable thriller with some unexpected twists is not in question. A solid 3.5 stars, and it might have got 4 stars if it had been less lengthy, because some parts felt a little repetitive.

Good book!! Some really crazy twists and turns!! Wow! Definitely some shocking moments! The storyline was very interesting and kept me glued to my kindle! I definitely recommend reading this book! Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!
It seems too good to be true… When struggling writer Sebastian finds a room to let in a palatial Hampstead residence he cannot believe his luck. The rent is ridiculously cheap and he immediately feels a connection with his beautiful widowed landlady, Adriana. It is.Things take a dark turn when he finds out what happened to the last lodger. Could this be why the house is a fortress of security, and why Adriana seems so fragile? Adriana doesn’t want to talk about the death and sadness that seem to follow her wherever she goes and Sebastian has secrets of his own!

I was completely sucked into the book from the start and couldn't put it down. The writing is excellent and draws you into the story. It's well plotted out with characters that are vividly brought to life. There are twists and turns and the most perfect tension that's huolt throughout the story. It's all just so real and so I was invested throughout and dying to know wxactly what secrets were being hidden. An amazing book

Whoa did not see that ending coming. Adriana is renting out a room because she’s lonely as a widow. As seb gets to know her, he starts to wonder what happened to her last lodger who committed suicide. Meanwhile he is getting emails from someone about Adriana. Who is she really? Who is this random man that shows up from her past? And how are they all connected? Def not in any way you will ever guess! Very suspenseful!
