I was absolutely thrilled to be able to read this early through Netgalley. I've always loved this series and was so pleased to hear it was back. Nellie is just about coping with the death of her friend Gladys until she keeps smelling Gladys' rosewater perfume. This story has so many subplots running at the same time but it never gets confusing as it's written so well.
I couldn’t wait to read the 4th instalment of this series and it didn’t disappoint. As someone who spent the first 37 years of their life in Dover I really enjoy these books as I can picture the landmarks and streets being referenced. Ginny Bell does a great job with the books, the characters are well developed and you feel as though you know them, the Castle family are a lively bunch and with Nellie at the helm there’s never a dull moment.
There’s always a true historical event woven into to the storyline of the books and it’s heartbreaking what the residents of Dover at that time went though.
I’m looking forward to book 5 next year to see what’s next for The Castles.
Brilliant book with a great story and along with the characters this book comes alive for the reader. I love this series and have to re-read and fans of Ginny Bell will also love it.
And what a welcome return it was!
The Castle family don’t have their troubles to seek in this instalment of the series. Strangely Terence Carter seems to be at the root of most of the problems, or is he? Since the loss of Gladys, Nellie starts to think she’s being haunted by her. Nellie’s strange behaviour is worrying her family. Jasper thinks he’s helping things by bringing a long lost contact of Nellie's to help her, but will she be welcomed?
When some of the family go along to a football match, either to play or spectate, little could they foreseen the outcome!
There is some friction between family member who have secrets they don’t want revealed.
I loved this book as the story just flows and it was like joining old friends. My favourite character (again) is Jasper, least favourite definitely Terence. Had to laugh at Cissy’s mispronunciations.
Then the icing on the cake was reaching the end to discover there is another instalment, boost.
This is another great book by this author and the latest in the Dover Cafe series.
Loved all the previous books and this has more of the ups and downs at Nellie Castle's cafe. Life never seems to be dull and I really enjoyed the falling out and appearances of some of the characters! I hope the author is writing another book in this series as I have enjoyed each and every one of her books!!
Many thanx to NetGalley, the author and the publisher for allowing me the chance to read and review this book
Thank you for the chance to read this ARC in return for my honest opinion
This is book 4 in the series and though it would be possible to read as a standalone one has much more context in the lives of the characters by reading the others in the series.
It took me a while to work out who was who and where they fitted into the narrative. There was a list at the start of the book but in the e-book copy I had it was hard to distinguish who was who and what details belonged to whom. I did work it out in the end.
The book was well researched and well written. True events (though not necessarily in the correct timeframe) were carefully dealt with and showed the horrors and futility of war.
The author does acknowledge that she altered time when needed.
Events are heartbreaking but in some ways bring together threads from the previous books - but still allowing one to want to know more when the next book comes.
There is also prejudice and forbidden love which has great impact on those affected.
All in all a really great read - it was great to go back to Dover Cafe
This the 4th book in the Dover Cafe series and is just as great as the other 3. Nellie Castle runs the cafe and finds herself in debt to Terence Carter and Jimmy Castle is thinking of marrying Renee.Loved this as much as the others in the series.Thank you to Netgalley and Bonnier Books.
Thanks to the Publisher and Netgalley for an early review copy.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book.
It felt like meeting with old friends, and having a good catch up.
I highly recommend this book
Once again an amazing read was great to catch up with all the characters we have met before, loved the storyline as usual and was gripped from the start, well done on another amazing read
I was looking forward to reading 4th book in the dover girls series by Ginny Bell and oh boy! I this does not disappoint. another great addition the the series
The fourth in a series, you'll be drawn back into the world of Castle's Cafe , where a deadly attack and a long-held secrets threaten to upend the lives of the characters. Another great read,
What a welcome back to the Dover cafe. Great to catch up again with the Castle’s family with the always frantic lifestyle they all lead.
Jimmy isthe focusing this book and he’s not coping well with the loss of his best friend Colin. Nellie is the stalwart of the family but she’s not well either with the loss of her best friend Gladys but it dosnt help when she thinks that she’s coming back to haunt her.
Jimmy plans to marry Renee but what could possibly throw a spanner in the works?
Great read and great to catch up with the family looking forward to more in this series
Firstly thank you Netgalley for this Arc
