There were alternating perspectives and the narration was engaging. There was suspense, fear and mystery in the story. The characters are intriguing and mysterious. The setting is good.
Four go on a holiday, so many unthinkable things happens. They keep ignoring the things or take them lightly until something unfortunate happens. Someone has been murdered on an island and one among the four friends is a killer. The Island setting is both mysterious and terrifying. The narrators did a good job. The twists and turns certainly scared me.
Many Thanks to the Publisher.
This one delves straight in and starts off strong. Loved the fact the backdrop was Thailand as we are heading there ourselves this summer. The characters are well developed and the storyline is for about 3/4’s of the listen but it looses its way and just became silly and unbelievable. I found the outcome underwhelming and rushed as if the author needed to tie up all looses ends quickly. I found the narrator and storyline engaging up to this point.

I read and enjoyed The Wild Girls a few years ago so was looking forward to this one. However I was less keen and in fact was a bit disappointed with it. I felt it was overly dragged out; the plot summary states that Caleb dies in the book, however he does not die until towards the end of the book, and the part after that felt very rushed and unsatisfactory, while the build-up was too slow. It all felt very unrealistic and improbable - yes sure it's an escapist holiday read, however it just didn't really work for me. Also some of the narration wasn't great - the reader of Holly wasn't very good in my opinion. I think it would have been better narrated by a single narrator who is very capable of doing a range of different voices and accents, such as Imogen Church, Claire Corbett or Jonathan Keeble for example who are all incredibly wonderful audiobook narrators.
I enjoyed this audiobook quite a lot. It held my attention and I felt invested in the characters. Multiple POVs were executed nicely. I liked the narrators too. An easy listen with a murder plot.
A newlywed couple with more than enough money, take their friends, couple Holly and Lucas on a once in a lifetime vacation to Thailand. Struggling for money, financial strain takes a toll on Lucas as he contemplates how he's going to tell Holly about their plight. Meanwhile, an easy going stranger shows up, one that is known to new wife, a person she thought she'd never see again whom knows her secret past...
This really is the holiday from hell!
It took a little while to get going, and I’m not sure whether the four, first-person-POVs worked for me. At times I found myself wondering whether an omnipresent narrator would have made for a tenser atmosphere. It felt melodramatic and I struggled to relate to the characters who could be annoying and frustrating at times. This one probably wasn’t ideal for me.
Having said that it was an easy listen with an interesting final twist that I didn’t have to think about, which would probably make it a perfect holiday read if you’re after something that won’t tax the grey cells.
With thanks to NetGalley and Harper Collins UK audio for the chance to listen to an ARC.
I have enjoyed previous books by the same author and The Trip didn't disappoint.
Two couples with different amounts of wealth go on a dream holiday that starts with their booking not being valid and they are forced to stay in a hostel. Determined to make the most of it, one of the women seem spooked by a stranger who may not be all he seems.
The suspense was good although it dragged a little in the middle. I loved the ending however.
Overall The Trip was an entertaining listen and thanks to the author and publisher for an advanced copy.
A killer holiday read/listen. Two couples embark on a luxurious trip to Thailand, which gets off to a rocky start when they arrive at the hotel to discover they have no booking. They resort to a hostel for the first evening. During the first night, a sinister feeling of being watched looms, and a strange photo is left in the room. The four become five when another traveller latches on. He becomes overly familiar too quickly and creates tension and friction in the group. A holiday in paradise soon turns into a deadly nightmare. A pacy thriller that is well narrated on audiobook. #thetrip #phoebemorgan #harpercollins #netgalley
I just finished this twisty, holiday thriller and it was just as messy and dramatic as I’d hoped! I love a thriller that takes place in the pressure cooker a cooped up vacation scenario can create, and this one did not disappoint. It has you guessing right from the start, and I devoured it all in one day. I would definitely recommend if you love a good messy, over the top, often psychological thriller to sink your teeth into!! (Definitely a good choice for fans of TM Logan)
Four friends are heading off on holiday to Thailand, Theo & Saskia and Holly & Lucas. One couple is rich and the other one counts the Pennies. When they arrive a “friend” that Saskia knows turns up, but he’s not what the others think he is. Saskia has a secret, that she does not want anyone to uncover.
It’s a gripping read, liked the secrets and a great sunny location. A sunny 4 star read.
I listened to the audio book and both narrators read the story well, I liked both of them and they were easy to follow. Really enjoyed listening to them.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for a copy.
"The Trip" by Phoebe Morgan, narrated by Sofia Engstrand, Jess Nesling, and Sid Sagar, was an enjoyable book, although I had some mixed feelings about it. The premise of four friends on a dream holiday turned nightmare was intriguing, and I was initially drawn in by the promise of a thrilling mystery.
The audiobook was well-produced, and the cast of narrators did a fantastic job bringing the characters to life. I found myself hooked by the story and the secrets that each character was hiding. The tension and sense of danger kept me on the edge of my seat, eager to uncover the truth behind the vicious murder that shattered their paradise.
However, as the plot unfolded, I couldn't help but feel that the story dragged on at times. The pacing seemed slow, and I found myself wishing for more action and intensity to propel the narrative forward. While the ending provided a satisfying resolution, I felt that the journey to get there was a bit lacklustre.
Overall, "The Trip" was an entertaining listen, but it fell short of being a truly gripping thriller for me.
This is my first experience of Phoebe Morgan's work and I found it to be an enjoyable read. The premise for this book really intrigued me, but unfortunately I felt as though after all the build up and revelations the ending felt a little flat.
However there were some great twists and unexpected moments that kept me engaged and questioning everyone and everything. The character development was really well done, allowing us to experience the story from differing perspectives as it unfolded. The frequent mentioning of Holly and Lucas’s financial situation for me was over referenced, I get it explained some things but it didn't have to keep coming up.
A well written, easy to follow story read by some great narrators who help to bring the book to life.
Four friends with secrets head off on a holiday but with a huge secret. Things don't seem to be going their way on said holiday with absolutely everything going wrong for them. This was probably the first downside to the book for me. It seemed a tad unbelievable how much bad luck our foursome endured. The storyline was just okay for me as well. I appreciated the clear narration with the audiobook being well done however I felt the execution was a little lacking. I would be keen to try more by Phoebe Morgan though as this is my first book by her.
The Trip is the first book I’ve read by this author and the blurb sounded promising. I listened to the audio version and the narration throughout was proficient. I’m sorry to say that overall, I was disappointed. The premise is sound, four friends off for a holiday in Thailand. Two are well off, two are struggling, all have secrets. I felt there was a lot of repetition about why finances were tight and Holly keeping a spreadsheet to monitor spending. Apart from a couple of moments, there was very little tension at the start and the pacing was pedestrian. Neither was I keen on what seemed like overuse of adverbs and I found myself listening for words ending in ly rather than to the plot.
As for plotting, to be honest it was all a little preposterous. I’ll happily suspend belief if the characters are strong and there’s plenty of tension, but I found all the characters dull. Once the action, such as it was, arrived, the tale then reverted to pedestrian pace and long silences. I listened to the end; there are twists but no great reveals. Just couldn’t get excited at all about this title.
A perfect holiday and a perfect crime? I’m hooked already!
A wonderful audiobook to keep you entertained and on the edge of your seat. I love books like these - a group of friends, a looming threat and an undercurrent of danger. Kept in suspense and on the edge of ‘something’ and you’re guessing which way the tide is going to turn.
It was such easy listening, both by the audiobook and the writing. It’s easy to follow, easy to get hooked and intriguing to boot. It had a 3 strong cast giving voice to the characters and they all did a great job.
I enjoyed the plot and the eventual conclusion and it was a great book to loose yourself into for a bit and try and guess what was going to happen.
A page turner for sure and a perfect summer thriller for your TBR list.
This is my first book by the author but have seen her books around and was delighted to see this audio book available. I love a holiday thriller and this one started off strong and the writing was really good through out but found like half way my interest was falling and felt like something needed to happen and I kept waiting and it just came too late for me unfortunately as it took 80 percent into the book for something to peak my interest which is a shame as It started so well. Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for a chance to listen and review this audio book.
I love Phoebe Morgan and was thrilled to receive her soon to be published new thriller
This time, two couples travel to Thailand together. There’s wealthy newly weds Sakia and Theo and unwealthy Lucas and Holly
I only mention the wealth because it’s mentioned in the majority of chapters
There’s weird vibes until a third of the way in when something finally happens - friends know I’m not keen on a slow burn
I enjoyed the book once it got going but the pace was way too slow for me. The plane journey, the hotel booking confusion, the hostel - why was any of it necessary?
We got to know each character well enough, but there was such a strong emphasis on their wealth, it felt like there wasn’t much more to them than that
Because of this, when the reveal finally came, I didn’t feel as emotionally moved as I’d have liked
Overall, I felt that the characters and the mystery was missing something and definitely feel this is this authors, weakest book so far
Thanks to Netgalley and HarperCollins UK Audio for access to this audiobook ARC in exchange for my honest review
3.5 🌟 I listened to audiobook narrated by Sofia Engstrand & Jess Nesling, and I think I definitely enjoyed it more due to it being audiobook. I was very intrigued with the holiday thriller and the premise of it but i might have had too much of high expectations starting this, as it felt flat and slow few times, it wasn’t very gripping and fast paced as I would like a thriller book to be but this was still an enjoyable read.
This audiobook started strong with an intriguing premise, but unfortunately, the execution left me wanting more. While the writing itself was solid, the plot stretched a bit thin across the runtime. It felt like a story that could have been a gripping novella, condensed for a more impactful punch.
The initial setup in Thailand was promising, but the mystery unravelled at a glacial pace. I found myself frequently checking the remaining audiobook time, eager for the action to pick up. While the ending delivered a satisfying resolution, the long journey there felt like a slog.
For those who enjoy a leisurely paced thriller with a focus on character development, this might be a good fit. However, if you're looking for a fast-paced, edge-of-your-seat experience, this one might leave you feeling a bit stranded.
Overall, a 3-star listen.
This was a bit of a rollercoaster read for me... a very slow burn too start with a bit too much predictability, with some great twists towards the end made it a stronger finish.

A quick read/listen with a carefully thought out plot, that whilst easy to follow isn’t predictable in the way that I find so many thriller’s to be.
Four friends embark on a couples trip to Thailand, where immediately they step off the plane things start getting a little weird. only one of them understands why. Saskia’s past is catching up with her in the worst possible way.
Gripping, immersive storytelling that packs a punch with an ending to die for! The writing is excellent as is the narration.
