Committing to a fake romance is easy. It’s keeping it fake that’s the problem …
Sophie Rogers finds it easy to focus on the important things in life. Like her daughter, her job and her family.
So when Joe, another single parent at school suggests they fake a romance to help them both out of a fix, she throws herself in.
But then Sophie starts to look forward to seeing Joe. In fact, she’s thinking about his floppy hair, Irish accent and the way his lips felt when they grazed hers (her commitment to this is exceptional) more than their synced calendars and staged socials. And there is a reason the yummy mummies called him Hot Single Dad.
Sophie Rogers isn't silly enough to fall in love with her fake boyfriend.
Is she?
My Opinion
Sophie knows that she needs to make more of an effort with the parents at school when her daughter isn't getting invites to parties. Joe seems to be the most popular parent at the school and so when he suggests that they fake date she takes him up on the opportunity. This was a fun read with some great moments. A slow-burn romance with some fabulous characters that I found difficult to put down.
Rating 4/5
Because this I listened to this as an audio book I just want to say that the narration of this was perfect; easy to understand, portrayed the emotions and accents really well and overall told the story seamlessly.
The story was really addictive to read. Some of the tropes were; enemies to lovers, single dad/single mum, fake dating, slow burn romance, he falls first.
Overall; I really enjoyed this book.
I found myself wanting to carry on with the next chapter as soon as the last one had finished.
The funny bits were timed so perfectly and lightened up/accented the scenes really well.
I also adored some of the side characters like Sophie’s sister; I would definitely read a book about her!
This book was so nice and very sweet. I have truly enjoyed every bit of it. I was first drawn to this book because both main characters were single parents, which I adored. I also loved the fake-dating trope, and when it’s done right, it is amazing.
Joe and Sophie had the cutest relationship! Their chemistry was immediately apparent, and they had such great banter. I had to admit that I couldn't help but laugh several times. After her divorce, Sophie created a completely new life for herself and her daughter. Her resilience and hard work were admirable. And Joe, after losing his wife, was such a sweet guy, deserving of nothing but happiness. Their children were their greatest passion, and it was amazing to watch them fall in love and grow into a family of four. Check out this fantastic fake-dating story if you want to laugh aloud and enjoy the single parent trope. This one is for you.
The audiobook for The Pick Up was good! It was an entertaining romcom book. I am a fan of fake dating romances, and it was refreshing to have this kind of story with characters in their 30s, and both single parents. Being honest, I did feel like Sophie's motivations to fake date were a bit silly, and I wasn't convinced I would been so eager to be part of that group, although they turned out being better characters than I expected, and Frankie was my favourite. I liked the natural way in which Sophie and Joe became friends and started developing feelings, but I was soooo frustrated with the miscommunication issues that lead to the 3rd stage "break up". I could understand why Sophie was closed off to love again, but it got a little bit repetitive and annoying towards the end - wish they talked things through a bit more, they are adults!
Unfortunately, the biggest issue I had with it was the narrator. It felt like the British accent was a little bit exaggerated and got on my nerves a few times, and as there are sooo many side characters, and the narrator voices all of them, it got a bit annoying at times - especially with Joe's Irish accent. I would have enjoyed if there was a male narrator to do his voice. However, this is all personal preferences, and I did like the book!
Overall, I enjoyed the story line, it was entertaining, and there were some laughing out loud moments! I'll probably check out the author's other books.
Thank you to NetGalley, HarperCollins UK Audio, and HQ Digital for the early audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

Loved, loved, loved this book. Enemies to lovers, slow romance and fake dating… great recipe. Found myself immersed in their story and read it in a couple of days. This book will not disappoint.
Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for an advanced copy of this book.
So this was a fun, easy read. It’s hard not to enjoy the hook of Sophie needing to fauxmance her way into the popular mum’s group by fake dating the hot single dad, Joe. Their chemistry is great, so I only wish there was more of it and the reader got to see them together more. It felt frustrating that Sophie took so long to understand her feelings for Joe, which slowed the pace a bit for me. But the narrator did a fantastic jobs bringing all the characters and their accents to life. A shoutout too for Joe’s mum, Denise, I’m a sucker for a heartwarming, funny and no-nonsense gran side character in a read! As the premise was so fun, I’m likely to read this author again and would recommend this read for mums, book clubs and anyone looking for a light, feel-good read. Huge thanks to the author and publisher for this advance review copy. Views my own. 4*

This was such a fun read! The chemistry between Sophie and Joe was brilliant and the other school mums often had me giggling. Perfect for fans of closed-door romance!
⭐⭐⭐⭐
unfortunately this just fell really flat for me. it had so much potential but just felt meh. i’m really disappointed because i wanted to love it.
By now, I have to acknowledge it is much harder to impress me with an audiobook than if I’m left alone with a novel, so the fact that I was able to just relax and enjoy this speaks volumes (literally?)
The author was convincing and very easy to listen to. The plot line worked well, and reminded me greatly of the excellent television programme Motherland. So my view here is, if you like Motherland, you’ll most likely enjoy listening to this.
I found this super easy to listen to. The narrator had a lovely voice and the storyline was instantly enjoyable. I loved Jo and Sophie's relationship and enjoyed the crossed wires and mixed emotions they both clearly felt. Add two children into the mix and it created a fun, fast paced Rom com.
The Pick Up - Hannah Doyle
I don't think you can go far wrong with a fake dating trope, although I did start to find it frustrating that it took Sophie so long to figure out Joe's true feelings for her. Great chemistry between Joe and Sophie, and I particularly enjoyed Sophie's little girl's input to the story line. I thought the narrator did a great job, and made it effortless to listen to. Thanks very much Netgalley and HarperCollins UK Audio for the audio book version in return for my honest thoughts and opinions
who doesn't love the fake dating troupe i know i do! sophie and joe pull you in and make you want to stay with them, it is such a good read. i really enjoyed listening to this audio book!!
ow this was a fun one to listen to! Combining two very different literature tropes (single parenting and fake dating), Hannah creates a loveable story that is easy to dive into! I loved every moment of listening to Sophie and Joe’s story. The way in which Hannah Doyle wrote the story, and Olivia Mace narrates it, makes it easy to follow and even visualise, it’s almost like watching a movie unfold in real time. I’ll definitely be looking out for more of her works.
Special thanks to NetGalley, HarperCollins UK Audio, HQ Digital, and the editorial team for giving me the opportunity to review the ARC in audiobook format and to you, my reader, for taking the time to read this honest personal book review.

A very hilariously funny book. A different take on the fake dating trope than the ones I've read or listened to before. Most of the fake dating books I've read or listened to involve famous people. It was interesting to see regular people navigate it. I like how I feel like I know the characters. Their awkwardness is so funny. I also like that it's not rushed and it had a happy ending. It did take a while for me to get into it as it started quite slow but once it got to the fake dating part I was invested. Great story I really enjoyed listening to it.
Thank you to Netgalley and Harper Collins Audio UK for giving me the chance to listen to this audiobook in exchange for my thoughts on it.
This was such a quick and easy breezy read for me. I had a great time listening to this audiobook. The characters were phenomenal and well planned. The plot was well written and executed along with a well maintained pace throughout the book keeping me hooked till the very end.
Each characters were given sufficient scope to contribute to the plot and even shine throughout the whole book.
This was such a fun story and I really loved Sophie and Joe. This has everything I love in a romance with the fake dating and the amazing banter between the two of them!
I thoroughly enjoyed the narration of the audiobook and listened to it in the mornings while out on a walk, the amount of times I squealed or laughed out loud probably had me looking very crazy but It was just that entertaining!
This was a fun and light-hearted listen and had some really enjoyable tropes. The characters We're well developed and I felt really connected to them. I struggled with the narration but I think that's personal preference as I prefer American narrators. It was cool reading a book that was set in a City I used to work in, it made it feel so real!
This book is so special. Heartwarming, lighthearted, romantic. I found myself smiling on the inside and outside when reading this book. A fake romance trope written so beautifully!
Sophie is such a loveable and relatable main character and her journey throughout the book is just magic. Matched with Joe the male main character who is loveable and charming just make the perfect couple. They make you swoon, smile and laugh eventhough sometimes you want to shout at them both and tell them they’re being ridiculously stupid!
All of the side characters were so perfectly chosen and had enough depth and character development. I just loved everyone, even Celeste!
Hannah Doyle is now a must-read author I was just hooked in with her writing style, it’s just so easy. The only negative for me was that I read this book when I was so busy and it took me longer than I wanted to read! Every minute I had free I wanted to read this book!
Just perfect! Definitely go read this book!

✨ Fake Relationship
✨Single Father/Mother
✨ Slowburn Romance
✨ The best part of this book is set in Bristol which is where I live. I feel connected at some point😊
✨ Very light and easy to read.
Especially how Sophie in this book actually not looking for love and focus on her career and for her daughter. She can do it without any other men.
Yep. Until Joe arrives all of sudden but the actually connect each other without knowing which I love . Making it more true love story rather than fictional.
✨ it was my great read so far and definitely worth to read. Especially this summer🥂

I really enjoyed this rom com book by Hannah Doyle. I am a sucker for romance so the whole way through I was cheering from the sidelines for things to work out for them as a true romance even though it all is a fake romance we all know where we like these things to end.
The characters were all so loveable Joe and Sophie just seemed so well matched it was very hard not to cheer for them to be together and her sister Poppy was hillarious so many funny moments within this book along with some relatable ones many of us may also have lived through.
The narration was perfect for all the characters in this audiobook, was an easy enjoyable listen.
Thank you to Netgalley & Harper Collins UK Audio for the opportunity to listen to this for an open honest review.
