Every now and then I read a children's book or watch a children's show or movie that makes me stop and say "I think this book was made for adults, not kids," and this is one of those books. I love this book. I've put it on my list of books to order the day it comes out. It's so important to remember that to our children time passes so slowly, but there's also so much beauty in that. It's our job to get them to see the beauty, to stop and smell the roses, as they say. What a beautiful reminder of that.
This is a sweet story that I think most children will be able to relate to! As a parent to three impatient young children I was so excited to read this book to them, I'm always looking for books that teach the importance of patience and it is hard to find modern titles with this message. I loved the story, especially the focus on all the beauty that can be found if we aren't always rushing around. Honestly, it was a good reminder for myself as well! The illustrations were also beautiful. I'd definitely recommend this book, it would make a beautiful and important addition to a home library!
Fun energetic start, with beautiful art style that invokes coziness and serenity even when depicting actions and busy/rushed cities.
There's so much that can be explored in the classroom or by parents with their children. Not only about time as a measure but about patience.
The perception of time changes with age, with our favorite moments or least favorite events. In this book, we explore how time can run fast or slow, bring change, and give many examples that we don't immediately think about at first, so it makes us slow down and wonder, appreciate, and understand its importance in our lives when the cycles continue.
Very inspiring, and for all ages.
Thank you, Publisher and Netgalley, for the e-arc.
Exquisite artwork helps tell a story which both appreciates the wonderful bustling nature of life, whilst valuing the chances we have to slow down. To stop. To notice.
Thank you Netgalley and the publishers for this eARC in exchange for an honest review.
As a little girl, I always wanted to grow up and become independent and I could actually relate to the character and I think that everyone could. I've learnt to give things time and not to be a part of a maddening rat race. Instead of fretting, I've started nurturing myself.
I could see myself in that little and how she realised to be patient. It's such a meaningful book with beautiful illustrations. Would definitely recommend it to everyone, irrespective of their age.
This is such a sweet book. What little kid doesn’t want to hurry up time, just skip to the next holiday? It’s only with time and patience that we learn to appreciate the little moments, ones we want to pause time for. The artwork is so whimsical and just matches the tone of the story so well.
The illustrations in this book are beautiful! They are paintings that capture small details and bring the story to life.
The story begins with a child wishing life moved more quickly.
Then, she notices that things in nature move slowly and begins to appreciate the little things.
The only thing I didn’t care for in this story is when the girl started to look into things such as cave formation. It disrupted the flow to dive so deeply into the ways time can pass. Keeping it simple would have sufficed and still kept the message clear.
Thank you to #NetGalley for an eARC of #InTime by #MarinaRuiz in exchange for honest feedback.

In Time perfectly captures the experience of waiting…waiting…waiting…that so characterises childhood. The slow passage of time is expressed through simple and meandering prose, and stunning illustrations.
We loved the messaging about everything needing time to grow, and noticing the moments and beauty in the slowness. The illustrations provided beautiful insights into the experience of the young girl and her mother, which is lovely for children to be able to reflect upon with their grownups.
Thank you Quarto Publishing Group and NetGalley for a copy of this book. Opinions expressed are my own.
As a teacher I get asked a thousand times a day “How much longer?” Or “Is it time yet?”. And I smile to myself at the boundless energy small children have. As much as they enjoy living in the moment, they have zero patience when it comes to waiting. This book with its beautiful watercolour illustrations gives them a glimpse into the passage of time and pausing to enjoy the moment. It was a lovely read. I would definitely add this one to my classroom library. Highly recommend.
What a sweet and beautiful little story! I didn't expect it to move me so much, but it did because even though it's a children's book, I think sometimes adults need to be reminded that things take time too. The illustrations are incredibly beautiful too! I could stare at them for hours.
I don't have children, but if I did, I would definitely buy them this book; so cute and with a great message.
*Thanks to NetGalley uk, the publishers and the author for the ARC*
A beautiful story about patience with wonderful artwork. A good tool for children's story hour or as an SEL addition to a classroom lesson.
This was such an interesting read, with beautiful illustrations. In Time is about a little girl, who wishes for time to go faster - something all children have done before. It captured the emotion so well, through the storytelling and how as time progessed, it's also important to remember to take time to appreciate the much smaller things and the beauty of it all.
Thank you to NetGalley, Marina and the publisher for the early copy of In Time.
A little girl wishes she could make time go faster—everything can seem so slow when you're a child waiting for something!
But in the nature, she discovers that everything surrounding her needed time to grow, too.
It was a beautiful picture book about time and enjoying the moment, lovingly illustrated.
Thank you so much to Quarto Kids Books / Francis Lincoln Children’s and Netgalley for the ebook to read and review.
A little girl is impatient with time, she wants to rush it all along, speed it all up. But then she slows down and sees the wonders around her at the things that took time to grow and develop.
A beautiful story on patience, on time, on growth. It was a very lovely story I also liked the perspective difference, her mum always being late and rushing but the girl never feeling that, she was always counting the seconds wanting things to move on again. I loved seeing how they felt different and then when she finally looked around her in a moment of stillness she found so much more than she expected. With the beauty of the nature around her, trees, animal’s, caves all things that had to take many years to grow before they were as big as they were before her.
A really beautifully illustrated book, with a great story for young children about being patient that things take time, but there is so much surrounding them to enjoy and only time can create them, I really enjoyed reading this sweet story.
Marina Ruiz's amazement of nature is evident in this beautifully narrated book, 'In Time'. The soft watercolors across each page evoke a sense of nostalgia. It reminded me of memories as a child, when I thought the days were so incredibly long! The perception of time was much different then vs now, and this story validates this concept! It goes to remind us that there are so many miracles happening right beneath our noses if we are intentional about taking a moment to reflect.
An impatient child finds that sometimes it is nice to have things go more slowly. A book well worth owning!
The illustrations by the author are great fun, brilliantly colorful, imaginative, and delightful.
Perfect for reading alone or WITH someone of any age including ESL, and great for gifting to everyone, especially to a school or your local public library!
I requested and received a free temporary e-book on Adobe Digital Editions from Quarto Publishing Group – Frances Lincoln Children's Books | Frances Lincoln Children's Books via NetGalley. Thank
Cute book about a little girl who thinks time is passing so slowly. She realizes she can't speed up time, so she learns to enjoy the small things.
Well written and nicely illustrated. A great additiong to any childs library.
I’m always looking for books to add to my little girl’s library, and In Time’s sweet artwork instantly caught my eye. Maybe it’s because she’s turning one tomorrow, but this book genuinely brought tears to my eyes! What a beautiful story of taking in all the moments that we just want to rush by to get to the next big thing! The artwork in this is absolutely stunning, and the message is clear and important. While my daughter isn’t old enough to truly appreciate this book yet, I will most assuredly be adding it to her permanent collection in the future.
Such a nice story to read to kids. I teach kindergarteners and I'll buy this book for the class for sure. The illustrations are incredible and the story reminded me of when I was a kid myself and my relation with time. This story can open a lot of nice discussions with kids.
A sweet picture book perfect for librarians, teachers and parents alike to use for a meditative and mindful storytime. I loved the beautiful illustrations and age appropriate prose that’s easy to comprehend for even the smallest readers. The book does a great job at validating children's emotions regarding impatience and our fast paced world while also expressing the importance and value of patience and being present in the moment. I would absolutely recommend it!
