So, so cute. The focus is having patience, and being mindful of how the world moves around you and how it all impacts the bigger picture. The watercolor art is absolutely stunning, and the ultimate moral of wanting to pause time on a perfect moment—fantastic.
This is a beautiful, heartwarming story about a little girl's journey growing up where time seems to move so slowly and how she wishes it would speed up. The ending of this book brought tears to my eyes! The mother wants nothing more than to stop time and prevent her daughter from growing up. The idea of how we perceive time as we age hit me hard.
This is a wonderfully sentimental picture book about time, patience and love filled with delicate watercolour illustrations that stir emotions with every turn of the page.
This book was adorable! I love the meaning behind the story and the young girl learning to be patient. This book hold a lot of meaning and children of all ages and parents will love it.
This story tackles the idea of "time" for kids- a very difficult concepts for them to understand! The little girl in the story discusses how much she would like time to speed up so that she can get to the next holiday and celebrate her birthday over and over again. While she "waits" she finally begins to discover the beauty of the things around her. She recognizes that many of the things she notices, a snail crawling along and a bird sitting on her eggs, are also waiting. The girl finally understands that beauty can come from waiting, like trees that grow tall and strong or hedgehogs that are hibernating during the winter. A simple story that reminds all of us of the importance of slowing down and cherishing the small moments before they pass us by!
Pjs, cuddling, and story-time before bed is a favorite at our house! The last couple weeks the kids had so much fun reading some new material I was given advanced copies of. It’s cute how now they ask what new books I have to read. As soon as I’m finished they will tell me what they loved about the book. My great little reviewers! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️📚📖 @netgalley #netgalley

I would like to thank Quarto Publishing for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
The art style in this book is vibrant and adorable. The message is sweet and one I think both kids and parents will enjoy. I loved that the message was that time going by slowly gives us the opportunity to witness some moments in life we would otherwise miss rather than it being a “you’re going to miss this” narrative.
Those are great but I think they miss the mark with kids who are excited to experience life. This teaches kids that every moment of life, even the slow and simple ones, are exciting.
I would like to express my gratitude to Quarto Publishing Group- Frances Lincoln Children’s Books for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for my review.
The illustrations in the book are both beautiful and whimsical, yet they maintain a sense of realism that enhances the storytelling.
I found the story to be delightful, with valuable lessons about the rewards of patience and the happiness that can be found in waiting.
Overall, this book is a wonderful read that my child thoroughly enjoyed. I have no doubt that it will become a favorite in our household, with my child requesting it time and time again.
"In Time" by Marina Ruiz is a beautiful children's book about the nature of time and wishing it to speed up or slow down. At first the main character is wishing some of her life away, but later she learns to slow down and appreciate parts of life that take a long time. Wonderfully illustrated. Good for kids and adults. Thanks to Frances Lincoln Children's Books and Netgalley for the eARC.
I love the illustrations in this book, the beautiful cover, and the message. The aspect of pointing kids to nature is so encouraging. The only thing I don’t like is the emphasis on boredom; I think emphasizing boredom for kids can make that a reality.
Overall though, I like the story and will be reading it to my kids!
As a retired preschool teacher, mother of 7 and grandma to 2, I have read a lot of children's books. I am very partial to the ones with beautiful, interesting illustrations and stories that I enjoy reading as much as my kids/grandkids enjoy listening to me read them. This book is all of those things. I can relate as an adult, wishing time would slow down, but can remember wishing it would go faster when I was a child. Lovely story - beautiful illustrations!
This book was very sweet and I loved the message it was trying to get across. Even as an adult, this was a good reminder to slow down and appreciate nature and the present as opposed to wishing your life away. The illustrations were adorable and really helped to enhance the story and to get the message across. I liked the focus on nature and the pictures of the trees were stunning.
Overall, I liked the book and would recommend it to any young children who need a reminder to slow down and enjoy nature!
A beautiful story about the magic and power of time, and the importance of patience. We both begin and end the story with desire to slow down time and capture just a moment of it forever. Following the journey of a young girl as she learns all the wonderful things that happen as years, days and minutes pass by! From the growing of forests to the shaping of sand, In Time reminds us to enjoy each moment. The illustrations are gorgeous and would be easy for a young reader to follow along!
4.5 stars
Aww… adorable!
In Time is the story of a little girl who is impatient for time to fly at high speed and realizes the beauty of letting each second linger the way it does. From waiting for the clock to tick and tick, she understands the need for things to grow and develop in their own time and space.
This is a short and super cute book that teaches kids to savor each moment and find comfort in idleness and stillness. The book starts with the contrast between her mom’s busy life and her dragging life at school. However, as the day progresses, she sinks into a lucid dream where nature shows the truth of things.
I love the idea and the execution (though little ones should not walk into forests without adult supervision). Each page has only a few words of text, making it easy for kids to read. It is prose-poetry, which works for the theme and creates a nice sing-song rhythm to set the mood.
The illustrations are so, so beautiful! They are whimsical, colorful, and messy but also soothing and appealing. I think the illustrations are a blend of crayons and pencil colors. The textures are amazing! The girl and her mommy have two cute dogs as well. Another plus!
To summarize, In Time is a beautiful book showing the need to slow down and value each moment instead of rushing through life.
Thank you, NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group – Frances Lincoln Children's Books, for eARC. This review is voluntary and contains my honest opinion about the book.
I read this book as an arc from Netgalley in return for an honest review.
I sincerely love how children's books are full of wisdom of its own, entering into a child's simplistic yet wonderful way of thinking, once also my perspective. Time felt odd as a kid, even my experiences as an adult felt different at times. I love the art, the colors and the style, they really suits the overall story. My niece would love it!
This picture book has very age-appropriate ideas about time, as a scientific and philosophical concept. The prose is gorgeous and the relationship between the little girl and her mother is so sweet. However, what made me really love this book is the illustrations. Not only are the pictures beautiful, but the artist uses color and form to reflect the concepts regarding time. It's amazing. Thanks to NetGalley for letting me read this

In Time is beautifully written and illustrated by Marina Ruiz. 5/5 stars.
We are given the opportunity to follow a little girl's relationship with time and her ultimate discovery of what we need to slow down for.
The gorgeous flowing artwork matches the mood of the prose and the combination is one of the best children's books this reader has encountered in a long while.
The poetry of this book is in learning to be patient.
Letting life taking its time, enjoying present time and each moment.
Understand that each thing need time to develop and grow and become something extraordinary.
Through different exemples, this young girl learn that. And that is beautiful
In this sweet story, a young girl learns to be patient and to slow down to enjoy the journey. Great story to help kids learn to be present in the moment and observe all the wonderful little things about life. I love the illustrations!
There are some picture books that just speak to a person. This is one that is beautiful.
There are so many moments and days that seem like they never end, dragging on, endless waiting (especially for children) for the next big event. And yet, in those slow moment, time can be appreciated. "In Time" by Marina Ruiz effortlessly connects the reader to how the passing of time fluctuates in this beautifully illustrated picture book.
The book was beautifully written. The illustrations were simple, yet engaging. The author made careful word choices that were very impactful. Overall, the book was well written and I did really enjoy it.
