This was a challenging but worthwhile read that had me asking all kinds of questions about my own life and how I would use the MC's power if I had it. I appreciated that time movement did not come without costs -- extensive costs -- and how that was portrayed, and I appreciated the gradual reveal of some of the sacrifices related to that.
A beautiful whirlwind of a story. I was hooked from the get-go. Meet Me on the Bridge was an intriguing and thought-provoking time-travel story about love, letting go, and trusting fate. It started a bit slow and I was very curious about where the story was going and how the characters' stories were entwined. Is it predictable? Sure. But I couldn't stop listening.
Had a really hard time getting into this one and probably wouldve DNF'd had it not been for Netgalley. I have the ebook, so i will give that one a go. It might be the narrator that didn't sit with me.
It was the tile that got me
Little did I know that I was going to be completely consumed within this audio.
I have to first point out that Im typically pretty judgy when it comes to narrators but this one did not disappoint.
I was easily engaged, In fact I was completely consumed within the first chapter.
This book is the one that will make you fall in love over and over again, maybe even shed a tear or two.
I loved this audio so much, I can not wait to physically read this book (I want to make sure I didn't miss anything!)
Check out this teaser :
an true love ever survive across time?
Everyone says falling in love is supposed to be easy. But what happens when you meet the perfect man…in your dreams?
Especially when you find out he was real and died one year ago – on the bridge you had agreed to meet on for your first date. Wouldn’t you try to go back in time and change the course of destiny to create your very own happy-ever-after?
But the path to true love is never without complications, and meddling with the past can have unexpected consequences…
I just finished Meet me on the Bridge by Sarah J Harris audio - Narrator Nneka Okoye and here is my review.
Julia is living a mediocre life. Her boyfriend is a dud. Her job is uninspiring and her narcolepsy always happens at the worst possible times. Yet she dreams of a man, Alex. When she finds out he is a real person but he died a year ago she can’t help wondering how she remembers a man she can’t possibly have met yet he died on the very bridge that they had agreed to meet on in her dream…
How is that possible? When she finds out her narcolepsy is really a gift of being able to time travel, Julia cannot help but go back in time to save the man who has already stolen her heart but saving him doesn’t come without consequences.
This book hit me right in the feelers and the narrator did an excellent job of bringing me into the story. You can’t help but feel drawn into Julia’s world. She was very young when her mother left her with her grandmother for a week and never came back. Her grandmother has Alzheimer's and her life is very much a struggle every day.
When she realizes that her condition is a way to get back to the past to fix things for herself, she cannot help it but things don’t go right with every decision she makes and it’s heartbreaking. Her and Alex are clearly soul mates but saving his life does devastating things not just to his life but to other people and every time she tries to go back and fix it, she makes it worse. You can feel her agony of trying to balance what she wants with how it is destroying other people lives.
The plot had a real sliding doors feel and all the elements are there. The ending had my crying my dang eyes out so be prepared for that.
This audiobook checked all the boxes and a solid 4.5 stars from me.
Thank you to @netgalley and @brilliancepublishing for my gifted audio copy.
I was super excited to receive this audiobook, but honestly it just didn’t wow me like I thought it would.
I really struggled to get into this one and after making it to about 70% I decided to DNF. Sadly this was a miss for me but I did appreciate the time loop story and the great mental health (Alzheimer's rep). Okay on audio - this story just didn't hit for me unfortunately. Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early audio copy in exchange for my honest thoughts!
Having inherited the gift (curse?) of time travel, Julia gets stuck trying to alter the past when the man she falls in love with meets a tragic fate.
This book started off slower for me and dare I say, a bit repetitive. I know, it's difficult to write a time loop book that isn't repetitive to a degree (or perhaps I've read too many!) However, once it started to pick up, I was hooked on it and I really enjoyed it. I loved the degree of mystery to it and the whole butterfly effect on each character. Mostly I loved the ending, which made me want to go back and listen to it all over again, it was so good. I read this trope a lot and this book was definitely able to put a unique spin on it! I listened to the audiobook and really enjoyed the narrator!
This was a whirl wind of a book. A thrilling mystery time-travel romance. Julia meets the love of her life, Alex, in a dream where they promise to meet on a bridge for their first date. Only she’s a year too late and he tragically died on the date they were supposed to meet. Through methods unbeknownst to her, she is able to travel back in time to that day and stop him from dying- but at what cost?
This is my first time travel read and I found it to be quite intriguing. During listening to it I found myself doing a lot of introspection and wondering what I might do if put in the shoes of Julia (the main character). It’s a beautiful story that I highly recommend.
Thank you to NetGalley for a copy of Meet Me on the Bridge on audiobook. This did not impact my thoughts or review around this story.
I was really excited for this one and was looking forward to an emotional read. Sadly, this one was just not for me.
The start of this was strong, but as soon as a chapter one started, it was just too slow. There was nothing keeping me in the story initially to make me want to pick it back up. I tend to listen to most of my books in day or two and this took me over a week. I only picked it back up since so many people have been talking about it. The story does pick up a little, but it was just not what I was expecting.
Overall, this one was just not for me but I can see where others will love it.
