Bridge team being murdered. And the biggest question is why. Detectives discover that a hotel fire 20 years ago is the key to solving these cases.

You never really knew what was going to happen. And when you thought you did the author put a twit in. So I was always guessing as to what was going to happen. Who did it. I thought I knew but then I turned out to be wrong. This book keeps you engaged and interested and has one hack of a that at the end.

Thank you to the publishers, author and NetGalley for the free copy of this audio book.

This was the latest in a large series but I was fine following along without having read the previous stories. Very complex and twisting, with a nice fast pace. The narrator did a good job.

Damien Boyd’s "From the Ashes" is a compelling and suspenseful addition to the bestselling DI Nick Dixon crime series. It delivers a thrilling narrative that keeps readers on the edge of their seats. This novel expertly combines intricate plotting with rich character development, making it a must-read for fans of the genre. I haven't read any of the previous books in the series, but it's easy to pick up the threads of the main characters' storylines. What initially appears to be a routine unexplained death quickly turns into a complex murder investigation. Boyd masterfully escalates the tension as more victims are discovered. The eerily similar circumstances of these deaths point to a chilling pattern, and Dixon finds himself leading a regional task force to uncover the connection between the victims. The strength of "From the Ashes" lies in Boyd's ability to weave a complex and engrossing mystery. Each twist and turn in the investigation is meticulously crafted, keeping readers guessing and deeply invested in the outcome. Boyd's compelling portrayal of Dixon reveals the DI's dedication to his work and his empathy for the victims, making him a thoroughly engaging protagonist. The supporting characters are equally well-developed. The interactions between Dixon and his team are authentic and dynamic, enhancing the narrative's overall impact.
I rated this book three out of five stars.

In the book From The Ashes, author Damien Boyd follows Detective Chief Inspector Nick Dixon as he tries to understand what is happening to elderly people that seem to die of natural causes, but do they really? As he investigates, more victims are found and a regional task-force is set up to help find out what has happened. What is the connection between these victims? And all these elderly are dying in their own home. How is the killer gaining access so easily? This was a good story. I would recommend this book. I received a copy of this audio-book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Happy publication day!! From The Ashes by Damien Boyd was a gripping police thriller in which older people are being killed. Chief Inspector Nick Dixon is on the case, and believes that he is hunting a serial killer. Nick is so smart, and I love watching how he solved the mystery!
Expertly narrated by Simon Mattacks - a super-smooth voice and excellent intonation.
Thank to NetGalley and Brilliance Audio for the audiobook in exchange for an honest review. I did not know that this was the 14th book in the series, and I plan to go back to the first ones given how great this one was!

From The Ashes by Damien Boyd and narrated by Simon Mattacks is the 14th in the DI Nick Dixon series and I wish I had heard of this series before now as the characters and writing are simply brilliant. Personable, plausible, relatable, characters down to earth, sardonic yet humble

There is a serial killer in Somerset, their victim of choice being elderly and living on their own. Each victim was linked to a school which was the subject of scandal decades previously but is this a tenuous connection or a significant one?

Well paced with an intricately woven storyline that had me absolutely glued to my earbuds start to finish. I am invested in this series and look forward to catching up on the investigations of DCI Dixon

Thank you to NetGalley, Brilliance Publishing | Brilliance Audio, the author Damien Boyd and the narrator Simon Mattacks for this brilliant ALC. My review is left voluntarily and all opinions are my own

Thanks NetGalley for that audiobook listen. This was missed on me and I have admit some of the problem was the narration I had to listen really closely or I lost important details, that was for me. I felt it was bit disorganised but I liked the character’s who were well written.

This is the latest in Damien Boyd's Somerset based crime series, featuring the dogged and determined Detective Superintendent Nick Dixon with his police team. Dixon has a pregnant fiancee, DS Jane Winter, his wedding is coming up, although he is not looking forward to the stag night, and plus there is the dog, Monty. I listened to this on audio, approximately 8 hours and 50 minutes long and ably narrated by Simon Mattacks, who had me glued to the drama right up to the exciting and grave conclusions where all the threads are finally drawn together. In this most complex of cases, Dixon is convinced there is a serial killer roaming free, killing the elderly in their homes when he comes across a strangled female teacher.

There is soon another dead retired teacher, and what looks like another one, but this time outside their jurisdiction in Dorset, and here the body needs to be exhumed. Why on earth is someone targeting the elderly. This is an investigation that takes some surprising turns and twists, leading to some bridge players, and a fire for which an arsonist was convicted, and which goes back in time. As Dizon astutely observes there appear to be a remarkable number of coincidences, but are they really? Could it possibly be that there is a more organised force behind it all? Before it all ends, members of his police team will find themselves in grave danger that they will be lucky to emerge alive from.

Boyd writes a well plotted and fast paced police procedural with a familiar and established set of characters, we glimpse their personal lives as they pursue a thorny and hard to comprehend investigation that pushes them to their limits. This proved to be an exciting, intense addition to what is an enjoyable and entertaining crime series that I was gripped by. I can certainly recommend the audio and its excellent narrator! Many thanks to Brilliance Audio for an ALC
