Kenzie King has fought her way into a prime spot on a SWAT team, as a tactical medical, and everyday proving time and again that she has earned her spot.

A high stakes game of cat and mouse, as the SWAT team is continually drawn out and hunted, by a mysterious antagonist who manages to stay just out of their reach. Cole has been interested in Kenzie for awhile, but he's also never had trouble finding a date. But as their team is in danger, they find themselves closer together as the stakes raise and the dangerous plot unfolds.

An action packed read, with secrets from the present and past, strong protagonists with a slowly building romance. A highly entertaining read, with an edge of your seat plot, strong faith, plenty of suspense and romance!

An excellent addition to a fantastic series, but also great as a standalone. Great character development and interaction, I loved seeing familiar faces from the previous book as well. Great for fans of action and suspense!

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Kenzie is the only girl in her family and she grew up around her brother and his friends. She is very competitive and is determined to do everything the boys do, so after she finishes medical school, she applies to be the medic for a swat team. Her secondary reason for becoming involved with police is to prove that her father is innocent and was, in fact, not a corrupt cop. Themes of friendship and faith as well as overcoming the resistance of the other men on the team to having a woman among them. This is the second in a series, but is easily read as a stand alone. I will be interested to see what comes in a third book. Thanks to Netgalley for an arc, and no pressure for a positive review

Rating: 5 stars ~ Genre: Christian Mystery & Suspense ~ Pages: 299 ~ Publish Date: 20 Aug 2024

The year is 1947 and a young woman 22 years old is in a hospital because her father put her there. Supposedly she tried to kill herself. And the keyword in that sentence is … supposedly. No other patients have a private room. Why did she? She does not remember if what she has been told is true. Her name? Eliza.

The story moves to “present day” with a new team medic assigned to SWAT. Not exactly new, having been on the team for six months but when your team doesn’t accept you, you feel “new”. It probably doesn’t help that your father was chief of police until she was 14 years old. Or that he was known as TD — “The Dictator”. She was good at her job but one team member made it VERY clear he did not think so. Snide remarks. Uncooperative when he could get away with it. Her name? Kenzie.

The mystery? Why does someone want Kenzie dead? And exactly what did happen in the accident that ceased her father’s career? And … what does Kenzie’s story have to do with Eliza’s?

To find out, you’ll need to read “Target Acquired” by Lynette Eason which is book two of the Lake City Heroes series. I had not read book one so this one can be read standalone. I felt no “missing parts”. A five-star read that engaged me immediately and kept me that way until the end. To this reviewer, the ending was great. Loved it.

If you love “clean” mysteries, this book is for you. If you love “Christian” suspense, this book is for you. I recommend it highly.

I received a complimentary DRC (digital review copy) of “Target Acquired” via NetGalley from the publisher, Revell. A positive review was not required; the opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

Target Acquired by Lynette Eason is the second book in the Lake City Heroes series. Lynette Eason is one of my favorite authors for Christian romantic suspense so it was no surprise that I loved this book. Kenzie is a tough SWAT team member and Cole is the leader of the team. They must work together to find out who is out to get Kenzie. It is action packed and suspenseful. The character development is great and there is a great mixture of romance and suspense. I can't wait to read the next book in this series.

Eason is one of my favorite christian fiction/romance/suspense authors. She just does such a great job of character development and having me root for the FMC and MMC the whole time. I will be looking forward to the this series.

Tough-as-nails Kenzie King has finally earned her place as a tactical medic on a SWAT team. But not everyone on the all-male team accepts her. Rumor is, she didn't get the position because of what she could do but because of who she knew. Which means she has to work harder and longer than anyone else to prove herself.

Cole Garrison is a man with deep faith who is finally ready to settle down and build a family of his own--if he can find the right person, that is. Kenzie sure has set off his interest meter, but trouble seems to follow in her wake. Since she joined the team, someone has begun to ambush and pick off team members, one by one.

It's all hands on deck to discover the culprit and end the killing. Can Kenzie and Cole put aside their differences and work together as a team? Or will their budding attraction be snuffed out by a sniper's bullet?

Solid dual narrative with a present day and a historical story interwoven from Eason. Not my favorite of her books, but not a bad read either. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC--all opinions are my own.

Kenzie is a memorable character. Strong willed, smart and savvy. As the only woman on the SWAT team she has to deal with her male counterparts insults. Cole is in charge of the squad, and when someone targets Kenzie and the rest of the squad, he takes on protecting her and investigating with her. They fight their growing feelings for each other. There is also some things from long ago that resurface and need a second look. Full of action and some romance, this is a wonderful book.

I love Lynette Eason's books and this one didn't disappoint. The balance between the suspense plot, romance, faith without seeming pushy, and characters is always excellent. This book keeps you on your toes but also gives you some calmer moments where the romance between Cole & Kenzie can blossom. It also gives you a few suspects but not quite sure who it actually is until the end.

My thoughts: Target Acquired is a page turning romantic suspense that will engage you and keep you reading.  Some of the story really surprised me, some was horrific, and others were beyond sweet. I enjoyed getting to know these characters and how they were able to work through the problems. You will definitely want to read this book. I normally love Lynette Eason’s books, but this one fell short for me. The plot was twisty, and I enjoyed the storyline from the past. However, I felt the tension between Kenzie and Cole was forced and would have liked to read more about Cole’s issues from his past relationship. The ending also seemed haphazard and I felt like a lot of things were left unresolved.

Kenzie King is a tactical medic on the SWAT team. Dream job, right? Well, it would be if the guys on the team all accepted and respected her. They are supposed to be a 'team,' after all. She got the job fair and square. She beat her own brother out for the position. She feels bad about that, although she knows being a medical doctor qualified her over him.

Then, attempts begin being made on Kenzie's life. At times, this has put other members of the team at risk. She offered to leave the team, but the members voted that she stays. Well, with the exception of one. Is he the one making the attempts on her life? After all, he has a friend who also applied for the position and lost out to Kenzie. No matter that she was more qualified than he was. Cole Garrison is the team commander and has had talks with the team regarding their behavior towards Kenzie.

And, what's a great suspense story without a romantic interest? Cole and Kenzie each begin to feel something towards the other.

This story also goes back to the 1940's with their grandparents as well as a third party. I love how the author, Lynette Eason intertwined the two stories and brought the past into the future.

The author also did a great job of keeping me guessing at who the villain was. Wonderful characters and story!

I was given an advanced ecopy by the publisher, Revell, through Netgalley. I was under no obligation to write a positive review.

While I didn't like this one as much as I did the first one in the series. I still enjoyed reading about Kenzie being the only female on a SWAT team. She's the medic and some of the guys still look down on her and want her gone. I'm not going lie I didn't like Cole in the first book and it took a while for me to warm up to him in this one. It did keep me turning pages because I had to know how it was going to end. But I did think the romance was a little rushed. I am looking forward to the third book in the series.

A fast paced Christian suspense novel that will keep you guessing to the very end!

*note - can be read as a stand alone

The riveting suspense grabbed me and drew me in, but I was confused at first by scenes from the past in a mental institution. I didn’t realize this was a time-slip novel so that threw me and pulled me from the exciting action in the present day. Eventually, I saw how it all tied together but opening with that didn’t strike me as compelling as if the author has plunked us into a dramatic scene and then brought in the ties with the characters’ grandparents. The mystery did keep me reading to find out who was behind the crimes and why. If you enjoy clean suspenseful reads, check out this story. I received a copy from the publisher through NetGalley. Best if read in order but can be read as a standalone. This story is mostly present day,but it does have some chapters that goes back in time. Their families have been friends for years after the dramatic events that happened when their grandparents were younger. Now they are both members of the SWAT team. Being the first female member hasn't been smooth sailing. Someone doesn't want her on the team and their not afraid of collateral damage. Their also willing to kill. Who's responsible and why? What happened with their grandparents? When her dad adds another mystery to the growing list things start getting confusing? Will they be able to stop the culprit(s) before even more people are affected?
I received a copy of this book from the author. Review voluntarily given.

I wanted to read Target Acquired when I saw it was about a SWAT team. I like reading books that have suspense and faith. Lynette Eason, a new author to me, had me hooked from the beginning. I could see the characters leaping off the page into real life. I was on the edge of my seat and hurried to finish it.

I received a complimentary e-book from Revell through Netgalley to review. I was not required to give a positive review, and the thoughts above are my own.

If you are looking for a badass female character, then Target Acquired by Lynette Eason should be your next read. The book is filled with suspense and action. It also has some romance and light Christianity thrown in.

Kenzie is medic on the SWAT team filled with men, and not everyone is happy about it. In fact, someone is trying to get her to quit or kill her. Cole, her SWAT team leader, is NOT one of those people. He wants her closer, not far away.

This was an easy read. It is told from the viewpoints of both Kenzie and Cole, and they are both very likable characters. It has some action, romance, friendship, and I appreciated the parts that showed Cole’s strong faith.

It is the second book in the series, but it is a stand-alone book. There are parts that flash back to a woman in a mental hospital in the 1940s. I thought that part of history was interesting to read, but it also wasn’t a necessary part of the book.

It definitely isn’t a thriller, but it was an enjoyable story line. If you like books by Dani Pettrey or Kristen Heitzmann, you would enjoy this one also. Both authors write Christian romance books.

I gave this book four out of five stars.

Thank you to NetGalley, Revell, and Lynette Eason for my free copy of the book. This is my honest review.

WOW this story was intense! I loved getting to know SWAT members Kenzie, Cole and the other team members in this Lake City Heroes book.

Kenzie is a strong, fierce woman who felt like she had to constantly prove her worth on the almost all male SWAT team. Kenzie, Cole and the team fight to work together to keep themselves alive as time and time again they come face to face with danger and almost death. It was really interesting to read about Cole’s grandmother Eliza and her experiences in the mental state hospital in the mid 1940s; and how it tied back into present day.

Lots of twists, danger, heartache and revenge. I absolutely loved this clean, Christian fiction book.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions and views expressed are my own.

This was my first book by Lynnette and I am confident that it won’t be my last.

There are enough twists and turns to keep you engaged but not too many that you get lost. As a fan of crime shows, mysteries and thrillers, this hit all my favorites.

Kenzie and Cole are both relatable with their inner battles from past hurts, family trauma, and their relationship struggles.

If you like Dee Henderson’s O’Malley series, this is a book you will enjoy as the SWAT team is a family unit with all the usual challenges.

This book released August 20th.

I loved Double Take, the first in the series. And I'd encourage new readers to read that one first before diving into the second even though Target Acquired can easily be read as a standalone.

Kenzie King and Cole Garrison are part of the same social group that we witnessed in Double Take. Kenzie is a medic as well as a fully trained SWAT member, so she can perform both jobs. She's recently joined the team that Cole leads and being the first female on the team, feels like she has to work extra hard to prove herself worthy. Most of the guys on the team are happy to have her and she soon convinces them she has what it takes. Except for one, Butler, who just won't give her a chance because his mate, Oscar, missed out because of Kenzie.

The story pivots around the stories of three families across 80 years: Kenzie, Cole's and Oscar's. Eason even takes us back to the 1940s to show us the beginnings. I enjoyed reading the snippets of the 1940s, and the tough time Eliza Crane, Cole's grandmother, had with her father.

I enjoyed both Kenzie and Cole, they're good characters. Perhaps Cole wasn't as "Shemar Moore' as I would have liked in terms of leading his team and he was often conflicted by his feelings towards Kenzie. Kenzie meanwhile comes across as a great team player, courageous and willing to go the extra mile to get the bad guy. She happens to be the 'target' in this story and for most of it, it's a bit of mystery as to who is responsible for targeting her and why. But it gets to the point when there are no more possible candidates and one can guess who the likely person is.

This story doesn't have the same oomph that Double Take had. It didn't keep me riveted as much and it lacked that extreme sense of danger that a great thriller has. But it is a very good read and I'm looking forward to the final in the series, where a third member of the girl's social group, Jesslyn, takes the lead. She's a fire Marshall so it will have a different bent once again.

I'm appreciative having received an early ebook copy of the story from Revell as part of their Revell Reads program via Net Galley. This, however, had no bearing on my review.
