I just finished reading Lynette Eason’s newest book from her Lake City Heroes series, Target Acquired, in 1 afternoon. My only complaint is that I wish it were longer because I loved these characters so much, I want to hang out with them forever!
It can be hard to find a good suspense thriller that is also in the Christian genre, and so when I found Eason’s books, I started devouring them immediately. I love the relationships she captures- I wish I could find such a wonderful group of friends in real life- but when you dive into her world, you feel like you’re a part of it. Eason writes strong, smart, enduring female leads and strong, capable men to be their counterparts. I thoroughly enjoy every book, but this Lake City Heroes series is by far my favorite and I cannot wait for the next one to come out.
I will admit that, especially in the beginning, I had a little trouble keeping all the characters straight in my head, but the character guide at the beginning helped with that. I noticed a few minor consistency issues (such as calling Nathan James’ new partner but then the next story has him working with an entirely different partner- a detail which could change prior to publication), but nothing that distracted me from the great storytelling, engaging writing, and fantastic characters and character development. Highly recommend anything by Lynette Eason, but especially this series!

I like it that Lynette Eason does not only have heroes but heroines, and sometimes they're the ones to save the day.
The case is suspenseful, intertwined with an old case and ancient family history. It couldn't get more personal.
The love story doesn't bring anything new. She has fallen for him years ago but believes he's out of reach. He was disappointed and now has trust issues. Working together, they both try to keep it friendly and professional.

Target Acquired
There is absolutely nothing better than reading another amazing mystery by Lynette Eason. "Target Acquired" is a must read! This is the second book in the "The Lake City Heroes" series. This could be read in order or it could stand alone.

Cole Garrison is the leader of Lake City swat team. He has a strong christian, whom was hurt in the past but is so ready to move on. Will that person be Kenzie King. He is very protective of Kenzie King and struggles with his feeling as her boss.

Kenzie is a strong woman that has to prove she is the best person for this all male swat team. Will she be able to continue to prove herself or will she give up because someone is trying to get her to throw in the towel.

The characters are well written and very likable. The storyline pulled me in from the very beginning and was hard to put down.

I highly recommend this book!

I received this advanced copy from the publisher company through Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are mine and mine alone.

I am always ready to dive into another suspense book and Lynette Eason is a favorite of mine! Target Acquired had moments of action and danger that took me by surprise and kept the characters looking over their shoulders until the final pages. I struggled a bit with this book and here are a few of the reasons. Kenzie and Cole had a bit of an awkward dynamic that really didn’t draw me into the story, and I felt like there was absolutely no romance or chemistry between the two of them. I really didn’t love the split time or historical aspect of this book at all. I didn’t feel like the connection to the present day circumstances were plausible enough to devote that many pages of the book to things that happened in the past. Without giving spoilers it’s hard to explain that more thoroughly, but I felt like those sections really took me out of the story and slowed the pacing down. The conclusion was hard for me to accept realistically.
While this book wasn’t my favorite there were still plenty of moments of danger and suspense to keep things interesting and getting to know characters from past and future books is always fun! Looking forward to the next in this series!

Target Acquired is another fantastic book by Lynette Eason.

Kenzie and Cole's story is so exciting from beginning to end. Kenzie being targeted, plus trying to fit in with an all male swat team, is stressful enough. Coupled with her growing feelings for her boss, Cole makes for a lot of tension in her life.
Cole is also wrestling with his feelings for Kenzie, plus dealing with her being someone's target.
The story kept me guessing. Every time time I thought I knew who was targeting her, I was wrong. The ending really blew my mind. Was not ready for that.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher, and this is my honest review

Lake City Heroes book #2

Synopsis in a few words:

Kenzie King has earned her place as a tactical medic on a SWAT team, a world dominated by all-male. She soon finds out that her arrival has rocked the boat and that not everyone on the team accepts her but she is committed to the job and will have to prove she is as good as they are....She soon finds herself caught between a cold case and a threat to her life.... Cole Garrison, her team leader, will help her navigate while they work to crack the case and find the culprit who is threatening her.

My thoughts:

The story:

The plot gives us a little of everything: lots of intrigue, high-octane action packed with many twists, slow and steady pacing, a bit of poignant moments, some soft romance to spike the narrative and clean humour to make us smile but most of all keeps us interested till the very end. The romance is sweet and clean as expected with Ms. Eason.

We have two timeline criss-crossing each other one is the contemporary story and the other takes us back to 1940. I love the backstory a lot. Eventually they connected and smoothly blend into an entertaining saga.

The characters:

Kenzie King is the image of women who pierced gender inequality with resilience determination and tenacity and faced challenges with courage and strength. By the end she won her colleagues respect and accepted as an equal member of the team.

With his big heart, protective instincts and indomitable spirits Cole Garrison’s dynamic personality brings heartwarming feelings to this inspiring tale.

The SWAT team is a group of tight-knit and courageous bunch of friends (colleagues) looking out for one another. The story is filled with their interactions.

Conclusion:

Well-written and said this story published by Revell is a clean read and meant for everyone.

Although “Target Acquired” is part of a series it stands well on its own.

I jumped into Lynette Eason’s Lake City Heroes Series starting with Book #2, Target Acquired, and it was go-go-go from chapter 1. It’s a true mystery-suspense novel with action, explosions, dodging bullets (literally all these within the story, but not gory—could we define it as cosy Christian mystery, perhaps?) peppered throughout to give it a great pace that makes you want to read on to the next chapter, even though it’s already past midnight.

You’ll find some compelling red herrings and an unexpected killer character at the end (although, like all of Eason’s great novels, she does drop some small hints for those who want to play detective before the big reveal).

While first and foremost the genre of this novel is mystery-suspense, it’s always nice to see the faith belief of characters interwoven through the narrative in a light way, and it has a clean romance storyline, which I love and keep returning to Eason’s work.

I highly recommend this book for those who have read past series by Eason, Lynn H. Blackburn or Colleen Coble, or those looking for a fresh and compelling page-turner in the Christian mystery-suspense with a side dish of romance.

As I haven’t read the first book in this series, Target Acquired now has me wanting to go hunt down Book #1 and learn more about the different characters she has in this series’ friendship group. I’ll definitely be first to line up to read the next Lake City Heroes story (Book #3) when she releases it…not too long, please. We want more of these Lake City Heroes!

All the swoon and all the feels. Gah! Cole and Kenzie together just..so much!! Their interactions are just a warm blanket to wrap myself in, especially Cole’s protective nature! I smiled so much and my heart was just warmed more and more. The perfect romance. Humor and banter, guns and childhood friendships, faith and family and mysteries and more! I blazed through this brother’s best friend romance (my fav trope). There were suspicions all around as the past unraveled alongside the present in a dual timeline investigation. Secrets and grudges and a lot of danger. This Christian romantic suspense was better than I was expecting (and I had high expectations) and I cannot wait for more.

I received an eARC of this book from the publisher through NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

Lynette Eason continues her Lake City Heroes series with the incredible dual-timeline thriller “Target Acquired.”

SWAT Medic Kenzie King is quickly learning that someone is out to get her. As her team is called to more and more fake calls, putting her life and her team’s lives in danger, she turns to fellow SWAT member Cole Garrison — the man she has always had a crush on — to help her figure out who is after her, and why.

In the 1940s, Eliza Crane’s father has her falsely institutionalized in a mental hospital. But with the help of her best friend Betsy and Dr. King, she hopes to find her way back to her beloved William.

How do the two stories relate to each other? And do the sins of the past lead to the sins of the future?

Once again, Eason creates a fast-paced, heart-thumping thriller that leaves readers guessing. She creates great characters that have past traumas and issues to overcome, but learn to rely on and trust each other. Through her story she reminds us that everyone needs hope; to not judge others; to not make assumptions; never give up on love; and to find forgiveness.

Fans of Colleen Coble, Kelly Irvin, Terri Blackstock and Irene Hannon will love this novel, which is due out Aug. 20.

Five stars out of five.

Kenzie King is happy to be a member of the SWAT team but wishes that she could be accepted by her team. Her medical degree put her above all the other candidates for the medic job, but one of her team members still thinks his friend should be on the team instead of her. Her team leader Cole Garrison knows that Kenzie is the best person for the job. He is concerned that his professional distancing might have kept the team distanced from Kenzie as well and strives to spend more time socially with her. Someone is targeting the team and Kenzie has to put her skills into action. I received a free copy of this ebook from the publisher through Netgalley. This is my honest and voluntarily given review. This is a solid action-packed suspenseful story. While Kenzie has been attracted to Cole for years, Cole is resistant to romance due to a past relationship. Growing up with three older brothers, Kenzie is a very strong woman. I think that the diary flashbacks to Cole's grandmother are interesting and add to the story.

Lynette Eason just keeps the good stuff coming with her newest story “Target Acquired”. Kenzie King is the medic for a SWAT team that, since her arrival, is being targeted. The male lead is Cole Garrison who just happens to be the commander of the SWAT team. The relationship development between the two is evident but paced as they work together to solve the mystery of who is targeting the team, and why. Complete with twists and turns, this book will keep you guessing. This is a hit.

Oh I loved this suspenseful multi-generational dual timeline story, I could not put it down. I honestly did not see the culprit coming, and I love it when that happens! Several families in Lake City have gone back generations, some good friends, and some with secrets. This story of Kenzie King and Cole Garrison who were family friends, co-workers on the SWAT team, and had a definite interest in each other is a page-turner! It had plenty of camaraderie, suspicious characters, and twists and turns that kept me guessing right to the end. I loved the mysterious family angle that went back in time and had me guessing those storylines too!

For lovers of romantic suspense, you do not want to miss Target Aquired! It can be read as a standalone, but I highly recommend the series.

Thank you to the author, publisher, and Net Galley for allowing me to read an early copy, all opinions are my own.

What a wild ride!! This book has it all! Complex characters and relationships, modern day problems, action, suspense - and this one even has a little "look back in time" that connects with present day. Wow!! I had to force myself to read slower so that I wouldn't miss anything. The story centers around a SWAT team which includes Kenzie King who is the only female on the team. One of her good friends, Cole Garrison, is the Team Leader which complicates things. When it seems like the team is being targeted, they have to work together to discover the person involved - even if it is someone close to them!! I received an advance copy from the author and NetGalley but all opinions are my own.

Great book! I enjoyed all the characters and the tension between those she worked with. I loved the mystery of Kenzie's and Cole's grandparents and how it all connected throughout the years. The main characters were great together and the suspense was good, not overwhelming. Her books are always good, but this is one of my favorites. If you enjoy mystery and suspense this is a great one!

Target Acquired by Lynette Eason had me on the edge of my seat, the action was so constant. It is the 2nd book in her Lake City Heroes series and it was absolutely amazing. The group of friends in the series are a tight-knit, courageous and prayerful bunch, looking out for one another’s safety. I so enjoyed Cole and Kenzie’s story, romance and all. I can’t wait for book 3!!

Book Review 📖

Genre - Romantic Suspense

4.8/5 - I have been bingeing Lynette Eason this whole year and I’m now very impatiently awaiting book 3

Anyone familiar with Lynette Eason knows to be ready for an action-packed adventure, and this book was no exception.

When I started reading Target Acquired, I had a feeling this would be one of my favorite Lynette Eason books, and I was right! The plot of the book actually intertwines with a plot we get to see from the past, which I was fully not expecting, but found to be fun to read. I did think, however, that the past timeline wasn’t entirely necessary and it didn’t really click in all the right spots to be applicable to the present timeline which is where the bulk of our story resides.

The present plot, in my opinion, was classic Lynette Eason. It was fast-paced and well-written. I loved the action and characters. I’m sure my heart rate was up during this read!
SWAT team members Kenzie King and Cole Garrison are the heroes of our story, and they were phenomenal. Kenzie’s drive to prove herself was something I really resonated with, and watching her character development was beautiful.
Cole’s development was also well-written, and I’m not even going to lie- I just loved him. His perspective was golden, and I looked forward to hearing his thoughts each time.

Together the two characters formed some good chemistry that I felt even in book one. Their stories worked well together and they were fun characters to read. I did find some of the dialogue to be a bit unnatural (it looked good on paper, but probably wouldn’t be something in normal conversation), but it was just a couple of times and it barely distracted me from the story overall, which if you haven’t caught on yet, was phenomenal in my opinion.

Also, another thing I’ve always loved about Lynette Eason’s books are the side-characters in her stories. While they aren’t our main people, they still hold depth and credibility in her stories, and they help build our leading roles further than they would be by themselves. The dynamic between our main roles and supporting roles was probably one of my favorite things about Target Acquired, and I simply thought it was wonderful.

To finish us out, Target Acquired was an up-all-night suspense that had me hooked beyond the two days it took me to read it, and I’m already so excited to re-read it before book 3 releases!
