I thought that this book was beautiful - it was a pleasure to read it.
The book has some lovely messaging that the author gets over very nicely.
I loved the illustrations, they are some of the loveliest ones I have seen in a children's book.
It is 5 stars from me for this one - a lovely book - very highly recommended!

I’m a big fan of Stephen’s previous book “deep” so I had to read this one!
Beautifully illustrated book with a heartwarming message.
Little elephant is constantly on the move with his herd. He just wants to stop somewhere he can call home. He is too small to reach the trees so his mother helps him. He is too small to stand in the lake, so his sister helps him.
He feels lost. While his herd sleeps he goes and tries to find a place he can call home. Suddenly he becomes lost, frightened and realises he is all alone.
After calling out, he finally feels the ground shake. His herd have found him and he finally realises that home is where he is with his family.
Brilliant book about belonging for young readers.
Highly recommend. my 4 year old adored it ♥️

HERD, beautifully written and illustrated by Stephen Hogtun, is a stunning picture book about a family of elephants. A wonderful story in and of itself, this would also work very well as part of any KS1 topics such as Africa, animals and lends itself to PSHE discussions.

A heartwarming story about family and home! Also it has a gorgeous illustrations! We know that elephants wander for their whole life, but this little elephant was trying to fiind where their real home is. Until it finally realizes that actually their home is together with its herd. Will def add this to my home library.

An absolutely gorgeous, calming, beautiful story of family and belonging.
Beautifully illustrated and really lovely to read this book will be a great bedtime story. I felt as peaceful as I do when I read "Guess how much I love you" to my little one and I can see this one becoming a firm favourite too!

A gentle tale of the Herd, of a young elephant struggling to feel at 'home', to discover a settled place despite the support and guidance of others. Things happen, they come to realisation of what is important.
Very good artwork, a simple and gentle story but well done.

📚 Herd 📚
Written by @stephenhogtun and published by @bloomsburychildrens
What a delightful book! The story follows a little elephant as he travels with his family. The family go from place to place and the little elephant questions where his home is.
One night he decides to leave the herd and travel in search of a place that feels like home. He ends up lost and alone but his family come to the rescue and he soon realises that his family are home, not one place.
A heartwarming story about family and relationships. I absolutely adored it.
The illustrations are incredible. I'd have these on my wall! ❤️
I received this book as a review copy from @netgalley, all views my own. Herd will be published on 1st August 2024 - watch out for it ❤️

I have a child and we read together plenty. We sometimes read books to our child’s younger friends (child is 9, so still likes picture books and reads longer books on their own) and younger family members.
Though, reading great children’s books is one of my all time favourite activities and planning to do so forever.
Herd is an epic, modern fairy tale, told in the shape and style of classic fairy tales, but with its unique setting, mood, plot and characters.
The pictures depict an authentic world of this herd and wild nature with tangerine coloured sunsets, water sprayed from trunks, a cute MC, relatable explorations of home, family, adventure, roots, curiosity and self-discovery.
It is not done in a didactic way; it is rather meditative.
Suitable for all ages of children.
