I’m loving this new series more and more! Georgina is such a great character – very sympathetic and relatable – and she and her spirit friend Doris make a wonderful team. I love the developing relationship with DI Colin Bradshaw too. This book’s an enthralling mix of two moving historical sub-plots and a gripping present-day mystery, packed with suspects and satisfying clues. The action takes place during preparations for a London stage production, in which Georgina’s daughter will play Lady Macbeth. I loved the way their mother-daughter relationship was portrayed – so touching and believable. I can’t wait for book 4!
Georgina Drake book three.
Irene Taylor suffering now with dementia after pushing pregnant Doris Beauchamp down the stairs, Georgina is her first visitor in three years in the care home to try to find out the truth, now she needs to find her son Harrison Taylor.
The body under the stage is my best read out of the three in the series. I am loving the main character as she brings the stories to life for readers to be able to enjoy, there is never a dull moment.
A good read a cosy seat a quiet time of pleasure. I'm not giving any clues away. Very good right through
Another in the series with Georgina Drake - thoroughly enjoyable and fine as a stand alone.
When Georgina's daughter, Bea, is starring in a local production of Macbeth, she agrees to provide photographs of the dress rehearsal and take the actors' headshots. And as she's there, the male lead (Neil) is found stabbed to death during rehearsal. Suspicions abound, and as a result of the investigation, a blackmailing scheme is uncovered and Neil is the blackmailer. And further, an old body is found - thanks to Bert, Georgie's dog - which leads to Georgie and team learning about the history of the building during the blitz and the actors of the time.
Of course Doris is still present... the ghost that only Georgie can hear through her hearing aids. Georgie further helps Doris to learn more about the details of her death, which leads Georgie to visit the woman that should have become Doris' mother in law.
The multiple story lines and timelines are beautifully done in a way that makes sense and isn't confusing at all.
Thanks to NetGalley, Storm Publishing and Kate Hardy for the eARC.
An enjoyable cosy mystery. Georgie has a knack for finding bodies even, with the help of her dog, ones that have remained hidden for many years. Her policeman friend Colin despairs of her as she leaps in where angels fear to tread. This time her daughter, Bea is one of the suspects so she is doubly determined to find the killer.
A really enjoyable cozy murder mystery, set mainly in a theatre in London where Georgie is taking photos of the cast of Macbeth and her daughter Bea is in her first acting role. When a member of the cast is killed during the dress rehearsal, things take a deadly turn. As Bea becomes one of the suspects in his murder, Georgie is involved in trying to help find out the person responsible.
This is the third book in a really good series, with an unusual character, Doris, who was killed in the house where Georgie now lives, and who only she can hear, which proves very useful when trying to establish what happened. I love the use of genealogy to help research various stories, which in turn helps to give closure to Doris’ own mystery. Nicely paced, and such an easy read that I finished it in a day. I really want to see what happens in the next book, and where Georgie and Colins’ stories take them. Recommended.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the opportunity to read and review this book.
Sometimes all you need is a cosy mystery and of that is what you are after then definitely read thos book
I had not read others on the series but that didn't deter me. I totally loved it.
Thank you Netgalley and Storm Publishing for the opportunity to review
I received an ARC from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review..
Katy Hardie is one of my favourite romance writers and with the three books in her Georgina Drake series, she has proved she’s also an excellent writer of cosy crime.
The is set in London with its prime focus being in a theatre about to start a production of the Scottish play.. Unfortunately, for the actor who plays Banquo, murder halts play. and the murder suspects start to stack up.
Additionally, we have the side story of what’s happened to Trevor, Georgina‘s ghostly psychic Doris‘s boyfriend.
The story rattles along very satisfactory and I thoroughly enjoyed it. However, I had a couple of concerns. I would’ve liked to see more of Colin and heard less about Stephen.
Whilst we saw how much Colin cares about Georgina, I had no sense of their relationship growing deeper and more intimate. Yes, they talk about the cases she’s investigating but their romance is so low key as to be invisible.
I was also puzzled as to why - when Doris appears to talk to every other ghost around, there was nothing about her, reunion with Trevor/Harrison?
A really good read. 4 stars
This book combines a cozy murder mystery with a Shakespeare play production and it does so beautifully.
In this story you're dealing with Georgia whose daughter Bea is cast in Macbeth and Georgia as a professional photographer is doing headshots and photos for free. Then one of the members of the cast is murdered and her daughter is considered a suspect so Georgia sets out to solve the murder herself.
Full of twists and secrets as well as humor and some banter. This is definitely a must read for any fan of cozy mysteries or even mysteries in general.
Book three of the series. This one has Georgina heading to London to watch her daughter star in a production of Hamlet. When one of the actors dies, she steps in to investigate. And when a skeleton is found under the state, with the help of her ghostly friend, she helps with that one too. Enjoyed this book. The first I've read in the series, but makes me want to go back and read the first two as well. Highly recommend.
Georgina works taking photographs. she is presently taking headshots for a play her daughter is in. She also knows the theatre owner. Her husband died and she is in a relatively new relationship with Colin who is a policeman. One of the actors gets killed during rehearsal and a number of people are suspects.
It was a slow start for me, but the more I read the more interested I became. It turned out to be a nice enjoyable easy read.
My favourite Crimesolving Duo, Doris and Georgie!
Great read, with new and old murders. Loved also that the story around Doris progressed and we got to know more ( even though I hoped for a happier ending ).
Only reason why this one it's only 4 stars it's because it was set in London, so the Golden girls group was missing this time.
Thank you Netgalley!
Thank you NetGalley and Storm Publishing for the opportunity to read "The Body Under The Stage" in exchange for my honest opinion.
This is the third book in the Georgina Drake series and in all honesty this series hooked me with the first book and it just gets better and better. Each story is more interesting than the previous one. I especially enjoy that there is a current, present day murder for Georgie to solve and that there is a historic cold-case that she works on. The way she finds all the pieces and puts them together makes for riveting reading.
Georgie tracks down Irene Taylor who apparently doesn't look like a murderer but neither did the previous murderers that Georgie encountered. Georgie has no solid evidence that Irene pushed Doris down the stairs. There are no witnesses to 10 week pregnant Doris falling down the stairs. And no one can hear Doris who died 52 years ago, except Georgie through her hearing aids.
Georgie learns that Irene has had no visitors at the Lake View Nursing Home where she's been for 3 years. She feels that Georgie is her social inferior. She also feels that Lady Sybbie and her husband are "terrible snobs" but Lady Sybbie is a dear friend to Georgie. Irene states that Doris was only after their money. Her plans to keep her son Trevor with her forever failed because he left town after Doris died.
Georgie has finally tracked down Trevor, who now goes by the name of Harrison Taylor and had a recording studio in LA which he calls Dorian Studios.
Georgie and Colin Bradshaw have been friends since a guest was found dead in her holiday cottage. In this story Georgie travels to London to take photos of the production of the Scottish Play that her daughter Bea is playing Lady Macbeth in. But Georgie has a habit of finding dead bodies according to Colin. First her husband Stephan, then the guest at the Rookery Barn, followed by a woman in an ice house. This time it's a body of an actor below the stage at the Regency Theatre. Then Bert who has travelled with her sniffs something under one of the floorboards and they find a skeleton. An actor named Friedrich Schmidt - stage name Fred Smith was stabbed at a matinee the day of the Blitz. He was married to Esther Bailey a nurse who was pregnant with their first child.
There was a lot of blackmail going on at the Regency making almost everyone a suspect. The victim it seems had something on everyone. There were a lot of "accidents" at the theatre as well. Bea broke her wrist, Rebekah had food poisoning, John the carpenter had a accident with a set, Elias was nearly beaned by a weight dropping from the flies, Leo the technician was blamed for broken bulbs.
By the time everything is sorted, half the cast will need to be replaced because they are either in jail or on their way there. Georgie closure to the family of Fred Smith. She also finds answers for Doris.
A truly wonderful story and I can't wait to see what happens to Georgie and Doris next! A book deserving of more than 5 stars!!!
Amazing story! Full of twists and turns galore! I haven't read the other two books in this series and this book did a wonderful job making me feel welcome without having to rely on prior knowledge. I will absolutely be getting the prior two books and reading those! Five stars!
Although I'd recommend you read the first two books in the series before tackling this one, it isn't absolutely necessary. After the first chapter it all began to become clear to me who was who and how everyone was connected. That said, as a new to the series reader, I must admit to being a bit thrown by the first chapter. What I was reading didn't seem to match the blub. I pressed on, however, and am glad I did. By the time the second chapter was complete, I was hooked. I liked the characters and how connected they were, not to mention that Doris' story was both heartbreaking and intriguing. She's a ghost, btw, and you'll know her story well by the time the book ends. Georgina Drake, our main character, and her daughter Bea have a wonderful, very open relationship, although Georgina's ability to catch Bea's "tell" is surely annoying to Bea. Bea herself is a talented actress in what appears to be her first major role, at least one that can help make her career, but her side job helping people trace their family tree/history is one I haven't really encountered in a cozy mystery before. I found that both intriguing and, since I've worked off and on for years on my own family tree, fascinating. And, let's see, Colin, the detective and the romantic interest for Georgina is a good man and we do get to hear some of his viewpoints/feelings as the story goes along, which helped me, as a first time reader of this series, become more familiar and comfortable with the characters. But, hey, let's not forget Bert. Bert's a dog, a spaniel with a knack for finding dead bodies it appears. Yep, I need to get hold of the first two books and catch up.
As for the mystery, it's an intriguing one with lots of nuances. Who killed self-centered actor Neil Faulkner? Why? Georgina, whose late husband was an actor, was asked to take publicity photos of rehearsals and gets to view him in action just before the murder. She's there to document the theater's production of Ma...., er, make that The Scottish Play, as it's most often referred to in the book due to long time superstition about the play. With Bea a potential suspect, as is the rest of the cast, Georgina is determined to help solve the case although, as it turns out, that isn't the only case she's involved with. There's a cold case, too, which involves Doris and, no lie, takes us to Abbey Lane and lots of Beatles references. I'm not really going to detail the plot further but it'll make you both smile and have your emotions tested. Everyone involved has a well-rounded backstory, including the victim(s), and as a history buff, I was fully drawn into the tale of England during the time of the Blitz. You'll pick up some theater history and lore, too, such as Pepper's Ghost, as you read, not to mention real life history of how England reacted to refugees, Jewish or not, during the war. It's a sad story, let's just say.
Bottom line, despite my initial confusion, I wound up totally absorbed by this book and will definitely not only be following Georgina's story but catching up on the previous books. As a deaf character whose hearing aids are integral to the story, nope, not explaining, I loved the emotional roller coaster it took me on, though I'd recommend you keep some tissues handy for sections. The romance was low key but an important part of who Georgina (and you'll find out where her name came from) and Colin are. The ending was perfect. I gave a virtual fist pump and "Yes!" as I read it. Thank you so much #NetGalley and #StormPublishing for introducing me to these wonderful characters and their world. I'll definitely be back for more from author Kate Hardy.
Good book! This book had suspense, intrigue, murder, mystery, a great who done it and some crazy twists and turns! The storyline was very interesting and had me glued to my kindle! I recommend reading this book! Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me! Georgina Drake, photographer, proud mum, and amateur detective, tackles a case that’s a little too close to home!

Blame it on The Scottish Play.
One actor died of a stab wound during a current rehearsal (good riddance) and another was found under the floorboards who had been there since The Blitz (also stabbed).
Helping Georgina is the audio presence of a young woman who became a ghost fifty years ago but is rarely heard from and then only by Georgina due to her new hearing aids.
There is a tangled web to be sorted out and learning that her daughter was being blackmailed by a member of the cast does nothing good for her peace of mind. Now throw in attempts to track some people now of advanced age and more deaths! Good story!
I requested and received a free temporary EARC from Storm Publishing via NetGalley. Thank you!

Georgina’s daughter Bea is cast in MacBeth in a London performance, so Georgie (a professional photographer) is doing the headshots and photos for free. She soon realizes that one member of the cast is disliked by everyone and rightfully so. When the actor is killed in real life, the entire cast is suspect…including Bea. She knows Bea is innocent, but is soon involved in proving who the real murderer is and saving the performance.
Georgie’s dog locates a skeleton under the floorboards and a second murder from WWII is discovered. She, with Bea’s help, are determined to track down the identity of the skeleton. Georgie is also determined to find her ghost’s old boyfriend.
This is a fun mystery full of twists and secrets, with just a touch of the paranormal.
Thanks to Storm Publishing and NetGalley for the ARC.
I loved this book. Each book I’ve read in this series just gets better & better. It was so nice to see more of Bea & Will this time too. I loved the storyline, I enjoyed it so much I couldn’t put this book down and I finished it in an afternoon. I felt so many emotions reading this. I loved that we finally came full circle with Doris & her story, even if it was a sad one. The very last paragraph of this book broke my heart in the best way possible. It was so emotional I couldn’t help but cry. I can’t wait for more books in this series. Another fantastic book. Please please keep them coming.
Loved this book. A nice cozy mystery that was a really fun read. Kate Hardy wrote a story I didn't want to put down. I will be looking for more from her.
TBUTS by K. Hardy, published by Storm Publishing, is the third book in the Georgina Drake Series. For best reading experience I recommend to read the books in order. The previous books are The Body at Rookery Barn and The Body in the Ice House.
A fun read about hobby photographer and - detective Georgina Drake.
A witty and fun read, sweet, full of bicker and banter.
Blurb:Georgina Drake is taking promo photos of a dress rehearsal of Macbeth, and her daughter Bea’s first role. But the drama becomes real when one of the actors is found death.
Georgie knows Bea isn’t a murderer, but the local police don’t seem inclined to trust her opinion. And when Bea admits that Neil was blackmailing her, things start to look serious. Georgie decides to prove her daughter’s innocence, even if she has to solve the case herself.
But if Bea isn’t the murderer, then who is? Someone is more than happy to let Bea take their place, and they aren’t happy about Georgie’s snooping.
