Ah it's so good to be back with Arthur, Linus, Zoe and the kids. Where everyone is just being themselves, being chaotic at times but always with love in their heart (even the antichrist, go figure).
I was granted a sample of the sequel to The House in the Cerulean Sea, and from page 1 I knew it would warm my heart all over again. I missed Chauncey and Talia and Sal and Theodore and Lucy and every one of them.
But now things are at stake because Arthur and Linus are off to the city to raise awareness. And I'm already scared and need to know everyone will be alright!
TJ Klune's writing style again is so so good, as if he's really there with our found family and just describing what he sees and feels. And even if it should be too-cozy-on-the-nose, it isn't. It's just the right amount of fuzzy in the heart.
It's always hard to rate a sample, but I can't give less than 5/5 stars. Otherwise Lucy would merge the sun and the earth - or throw batter at me I don't know.
Thank you @netgalley and @panacmillan for the sample!

So excited for the full sequel "Somewhere Beyond the Sea"! I really can't wait to read the rest!
Reading this sampler, it felt like they were never gone and like I only read the first book yesterday :)
It has such a heartwarming and comfy vibe, like The House in the Cerulean Sea.
I was already very curious in the first book to know how Arthur arrived at the Orphanage as an adult, after having such a negative experience there as a child, so I'm very happy for this flashback scene.
We haven't met David yet, but I think he will immediately fit in with the others (or not).
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the sample :)

“You want me lost, but I am found in the breaths I take, in the space between heartbeats. I am found because I refuse to be in black-and-white, or any shade of gray. I am color. I am fire. I am the sun, and I will burn away the shadows until only light remains. And then you will have no choice but to see me”
Finding my way one more time to that crooked house in the Cerulean Sea felt like a delicious treat, even if it was only for a few chapters. Somewhere Beyond the Sea is one of my most anticipated reads this year and in that excerpt, I met again everything I loved in the first book.
It was like coming back home after a long trip, or seeing your old college friends after years. Just like in HCS, I couldn’t help but laugh (hard), cry (a lot), and, most important, felt seen and heard. Chapter one begins a year after the events in the first book, all the children have grown up, which doesn’t prevent chaos from reigning in the house, as puberty lingers over some of its residents. This time, as Arthur and Linus travel to the city, Arthur is the stranger, and this is his POV we follow. They left their colourful family at home on the island, and it feels like the book will be darker, even though what I could read until now wasn’t.
I found in these few chapters the same comfort and depth I had felt while reading HCS, that feeling that we have here a book that can (and should?) be read by anyone, no matter if they’re an outcast or not, no matter their age. Once again, with the use of metaphors (or direct speech) the author confronts us to diversity and how we can make our voice heard. I can’t wait until September to read the whole book (this review will be enriched and/or changed then) –or before, should a complete ARC be available.
Thank you so much NetGalley, TJ Klune and Tor for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I’m already in love with this story and I’ve only read the first 4 chapters.
Somewhere beyond the Sea is the second book in the series. It begins with prologue of when Arthur returns to the House in the cerulean sea the first time to fix it up and begin his Orphange. I loved seeing this small glimpse of the beginnings of what was to become the wonderful home that is now.
We then see how they have got on since the ending of the first book and revisit all the children, who are as precious and adorable as ever, and follow Arthur and Linus to the city where Arthur will testify in defense for Magical beings’ rights.
I adored what I have been able to read so far. I feel like we never left Arthur’s wonderful family and I especially love how this time around we get to read from Arthur’s point of view.
Obviously, this was a sampler and I only get to read 4 chapters and a prologue, but already I feel like this story will tackle more issues than just the prejudices against magical beings and delve into prejudice for anything or anyone that does not conform and I love that.
TJ Klune has a magnificent way of writing about deeply meaningful issues whilst still keeping to what is truly important. Love and what a person will do to fight for what is right.
Overall I adored what I was able to read and I cannot wait to read the rest. I am sure I will love it just as much of not more than I did the first book.
Thank you to Pan Macmillan and NetGalley for the ARC. These opinions are my own and I am sharing them voluntarily.
I will post this review to my Goodreads , Instagram and Waterstones.

Thank you for the Sampler! The sampler was absolutely fantastic, i can't wait to read the rest!
The first book is one of my all time favorite books, i read "The House in the Cerulean Sea" multiple times now. The world TJ Klune created, is one i often like to escape to when reality gets too much. The way they treat these children is what heals my inner child.
Just in this Sampler alone i cried twice. I cannot wait for TJ Klune to fill my heart with loads of feelings again.
I love how you are right back in this world. The beginning immediately pulls you in, with the small flashback of Arthur himself arriving at the orphanage as kid for the first time, and then flash forward to the present, with his found family. I especially loved, that he and Linus are working together, to give voices to these children, which can easily be transcribed into the real world. This is going to be a fantastic sequel.
link to my small Goodreads review is added, i will post a full review once i'm able to read the entire book! again, thank you so much for letting me read the sampler, it means a lot to me. i truly can't wait to read the full work!
p.s. many of my coworkers and many more customers have read and bought "The House in the Cerulean Sea" because of my recommendation. it has been my #1 pick since i read it for the first time, and i always make sure to have stock of the english and german version of it at work, so its always ready to be my recommendation.

I liked it so far, I can't wait to read the rest of the book. Definitely read it if you read the first one :D
