Shadowed Moonlight is a fast paced and highly entertaining paranormal romance, perfect for fans of Suzanne Wright and Ilona Andrews. It combines a swoonworthy second chance romance with a high stakes murder mystery that kept me on the edge of my seat.

Briar Stone is recruited to help solve a string of murders since she has the ability to read auras of the recently deceased. Unfortunately, this means teaming up with her Were ex boyfriend, Kane, and pretending to be his mate.

I cannot express just how much I adored this book; it had everything I wanted and more! The romance was incredible had me audibly squealing at times. I absolutely loved the plot and thought that Briar was an intelligent and very capable character.

I can't wait to get my hands on the sequel!

This book is … comfortable, which is odd to say, but there you go. It feels like the author took the worlds of Kate Daniels, October Daye, and sprinkles of a few other paranormal series and mixed them together, but did so while adding their own twist on magic, shifter politics, vampires and the paranormal world. The plot is familiar enough, with a serial killer on the loose, but that’s only a backdrop for the real story, which is has Briar fake dating her ex, having to sleep with him without losing her heart, and having to resist the urge to fall in love with the man who abandoned her four years ago.

The serial killer story, unfortunately, is severely lopsided as a plot, with it being the inciting incident and the big bang at the end … but in the middle it’s barely there and there was never a sense of urgency to find the killer, and none at all to try to save or prevent any additional victims. Briar’s relationship with Kane and her ex — who suggested that Briar and Kane hook up in order to circumvent certain political difficulties — are the driving force of the story, and while I think Briar and Kane have a good chemistry, I do have issues with their relationship.

Four years ago Kane left without a word, and Briar is, understandably, quite upset. Now that he’s back, she’s agreed to live with him and sleep with him, but when she has doubts or changes her mind, Kane is quick to back off, no matter how close the two of them have gotten to, er, consummation. He’s respectful while still being the usual growly alpha, and I didn’t really get a feel for him beyond those two facts, which aren’t exactly character traits.

Briar’s personality is much stronger. She’s hurt, she’s angry, and she’s madly in love — and angry at herself for the perceived weakness. She’s loyal to her friends, a devoted sister, very sex positive, and even though she knows she’s completely out of her depth, she’s not afraid to either ask for help, or to try her best to help others. She does lash out physically a great deal, at Kane, at walls, at cars … she’s a fun character, and I enjoy the fact that she’s allowed to be more fragile and physically weaker than the werewolves and vampires while still having a strength of character. I like Briar.

However, I’m not sure how I feel about a third character interfering in a fight to between Briar and Kane to “reveal the truth” all because the alpha didn’t want to give an ‘excuse’ by telling the woman he loved why he abandoned her for four years. Because explaining that he was forced against his will showed too much weakness? That his pride was more important than any hope he had of a relationship with the person he loved? Up until that point, I was fine with the tension — and hopes of a future — with the Briar and Kane. After that, I lost all interest in them as a couple. He will never be fully honest with her, will likely never do anything that requires him to be the one to bend first, leaving all of the emotional burden on her shoulders, or the shoulders of other pack members to do his job for him.

Of course, I do have to acknowledge that Kane spent four years being raped by Amber, the evil ex, and enslaved by a magical geas. He spent that time fighting for his freedom, playing pack games, being injured while doing so. The man has a great deal of trauma to unpack, but personally, I want to see some character growth from him — both to gain more character, and to be more involved in a full and balanced relationship with Briar. And that’s not to say that she didn’t hide things from him, as well (and I hate the miscommunication trope).

All in all, I enjoyed Briar as a character and the world she lived in. The plot was weak and rushed at the end, the reveal was a little heavy on the mustache twirling villain with his monologue, but I did like how unabashedly evil he was and how he managed to fully hurt everyone around Briar. The romance had issues, the pacing was a little uneven, but the writing was fine. Given the chance, I’d pick up book 2, so there’s that.

When I started Shadowed Moonlight I struggled to engage with the main character as I found her to be shallow and dramatic, however I’m glad I kept reading as it was a quick and fun read and her character development throughout made her extremely likeable.

Briar and Kane’s tension kept me hooked, as it was maintained throughout the entire plot. Individually I loved all of the characters, I think the author developed all of the side characters enough to add to the plot without detracting from the story. However, I found Briar to be overly dramatic but that could have been intentional as she was roughly 22.

If this book is the first in a series then it has been set up extremely well for the next novel. If it is a standalone I’m disappointed with the ending as there is no closure in regards to the murder subplot and the ending felt rushed into the last 20%.

Overall a quick and easy read, that hooked my in with the romantic drama! Kane is extremely swoon worthy and I’m hoping there is a second book.

I ate this up. to begin with i really enjoyed it, the storyline between the characters was strong and i felt like it kept a good pace whilst building the story. I feel like the author has left it quite open and the last 10 percent and even 5 percent i was like what? I would of liked more points to be wrapped up but we never know if there will be a sequel. I do feel the ending was rushed but that could be to leave it open for more

It was enjoyable read, maybe it's just me, but I really felt quite a lot of emotions reading this. The author seem to be really good at showing us the characters emotions and feelings and it got to me, quite few times ;) . I also really like the serial killer part of the plot. What I didn't like much was the ending...because it didn't really feel like there was one at all. The serial killer plot feels still wide open. From what I see it is a stand alone, but it might change? Because the way it ended definitely leaves an open window for more books. I wouldn't call it a cliff hanger, but a window for sure. The romance part seems done, so maybe we will have some continuation with just different pairing? Hard to say. Definitely wouldn't mind :)

Spicy, paranormal, second chance romance that was a quick read. There were elements of the romance that I enjoyed, but really disliked the main conflict - trigger warning for child loss and sexual assault. The lack of communication between the main couple was frustrating and impacted the believability of their relationship.

The wider story was relatively interesting and I enjoyed the protective sibling relationship. The author navigated the challenges around addiction well. Overall, I wasn’t a fan of the writing style and I personally wouldn’t recommend this book, but imagine it would still appeal to a lot of people. If you’re a fan of spicy shifter romances then you’ll probably enjoy this.

I LOVED Shadowed Moonlight! I connected with the author on Instagram and requested a copy through NetGalley, and I’m so happy I did! K.C. Harper has a gift for world building. The writing really flowed well. I loved the MCs and their backstory, plus their reunion! The side characters are awesome, and hopefully we get their books as well. The book didn’t end on a cliffhanger, per se, but the door was definitely left wide open for a great series. There is some OW and OM drama, but no cheating. The open door scenes were pretty hot; I’d give it 🌶️ 🌶️🌶️ There are definitely a few plot twists that surprised me, which is kind of nice because I read so much that I’m not often surprised anymore. I’m very much looking forward to reading more by this author! Well done!

“Shadowed Moonlight” is a second chance urban romantasy. It’s fast pace, entertaining, and sexy as hell. I had such pleasure reading this novel, but after finishing it, my feelings are kind of mixed.

The world building was fantastic. It was dark, gritty, and foreboding. I loved reading about the complex political structure of the different fractions (witches, vampires, and werewolves) and their complicated relationships with each other and the humans.

Character wise, I have a love-hate relationship with them. Individually, I loved them. Briar is resilient and I really admired how she rebuild her life after being abandoned by her Were lover, Kane. I also really loved her loyalty and dedication to her brother, Lucas. Kane on the other hand, was everything I expected in an Alpha. Strong, confident, authoritative, and possessive. Despite his over bearing nature, I loved how supportive and respectful he was of Briar needs, especially when it came to Lucas. However, my issues arises when these characters get together. Don’t get me wrong, I loved the angst, tension and steamy chemistry between Briar and Kane, but the amount of mis-/no communication was so frustrating. Also, Briar’s indecisiveness drove me crazy. The only character that I absolutely adored was Lisa. I loved her brutal honesty and straight forwardness. My other issue with Briar and Kane, is how quickly the relationship progressed when the truth was revealed. There was just so much to unpack. Not only did Briar go through a traumatizing experience, but so did Kane in a way. I would have liked to see more of a healing progression on both sides.

As for the Phantom serial killer storyline, it started off strong. The clues left at the murder scenes were super intriguing. I was invested in trying to figure out the “who” and the “why”. However, as the story progressed, it started to become more of a subplot. It didn’t become relevant again until closer to the end, which I didn’t mind, except the reveal at the end was kind of underwhelming. I didn’t understand the overall motivation. What was the purpose of the specific murders? What was the serial killer trying to create? I am hoping it will become more clearer later on since this is the first book in a trilogy.

Overall, I thought it was entertaining. At times it could be a little dramatic, but that is what makes it so addicting to read. I am interested in continuing with the series. The murder mystery girlie in me needs to know what happens and I also hope to see a bit more maturity and growth from the characters and the relationship.

I'm pretty sure that after reading - no, excuse me - DEVOURING this book, my heart fractured and exploded into a thousand pieces.

This book had me on my KNEES and I was absolutely begging for more. What an unquestionably, amazing story!

I'm quite beside myself and speechless but I will recover, eventually. However, waiting for the second book is going to kill me.

What a PERFECT Crescent City hangover cure. I've needed one of those for a while and I'm so happy this book showed up on NetGalley. It was not what I expected, and absolutely blew me away from start to finish.

It's not often a book or series can make me feel every emotion under the sun - especially when top tier spice is involved - but I laughed, cried, loved and was absolutely devastated while reading Shadowed Moonlight.

The characters are all worthy of emotional attachment, but Briar stole my heart, I could relate to her struggles on a deeper level than I thought I ever would and it made this experience even more memorable. I could see this series being a core memory for me and an EASY re-read series. If this ever became a dramatized Audiobook, you bet your ass I'd purchase it without a single breath spared.

And can we please get a hands up for Kane f*cking Slade?! 🙌 He is just, everything. My newest book boyfriend. Take. Me. Home! 🔥

3.5 stars, rounded down for the hideous lack of editing and unreadable layout. I’m assuming this was just for the ARCs but it was atrocious and made it extremely hard to enjoy. I nearly DNFed so many times, but I pushed on for the sake of the author.

Struggles to read aside, the world building is well done with the supernatural mix and sub-plots going on. The murder scenes were interesting and I liked seeing her power in use and the imagery around emotions etc.

Does what it says on the tin, steamy urban romance with a possessive MMC and ‘average girl’ MFC. I didn’t hate any of the characters, but I don’t think I loved any either. Maybe Lucas, but I am a sucker for a vulnerable younger brother character. There was a lot of side characters I lost track of but I think they were mostly irrelevant and didn't effect the main story.

I also love it when main love interests have a way of internal communication, so that was a nice touch to the romance.

This was actually a pretty good book in the end, I’d recommend it when it’s had a very thorough edit!

The writing style was phenomenal, and this book has quickly jumped up to one of my favourites. It’s a great romantasy, with an interesting plot and characters. And it takes you on an emotional rollercoaster where you just want to give a big hug to both of them,

This was a gripping read, I thought the characters were intriguing and I'm going to keep an eye out for more from this author.

So...this was very much a middle of the road book for me. I didn't hate it, and I didn't love it.

My main issues is that I didn't understand...well anything. The main plot with the serial killer constantly felt like a side story that only got relevant to the end. Then it suddenly ended? It felt a little like the author got bored and just wanted it over?

The characters were flat as well. There's parts of this story that feature flashbacks to events that have happened, and it slowly fills in parts for you. But the problem is that I didnt particularly care enough about any of the characters in either the past or present.

Our main character, Briar, had one personality trait: trauma. She was hostile to basically everyone, and I get why but then she'd 180 and be completely different. She's important but then she's also...not...important? She's abrasive and just seems to snark constantly, yet whiplashes to being jokey and friendly the next second with the same people.

Kane had no personality outside of being possessive. That's it. Frankly, I don't get why he was even included apart from to have dubious consent sex. Which happens for like...half the book.

I have issues with too much smut sometimes, but this book made me feel icky with the sex. The reasoning behind the sex was flimsy as hell and may as well have been a piece of tape over a crack. It was just to have angry sex in the book.

The bad guy...I have no idea why he was doing what he was doing to be honest. Some vague 'bad guy' stuff, I guess? And then the overarching 'threat'...I don't get the point of that either.

The world itself was a little interesting, but the problem is that the author didn't DO anything with it. I said I didn't hate this, and I don't. But that's literally because I just felt it had nothing in it to hate.

The book was great and I have to keep this short or otherwise I spoiler a lot and that’s something you don’t want for this book because the twists and turns it took was crazy and I got whiplash more than once. It took me a bit to find into the urban setting and a way to characters.

This is an urban fantasy with all the good stuff. Vampires, Witches, Weres - sprinkle in some spice, serial killing and a hot alpha and you get this absolutely fantastic story.

It’s fast paced with twists I did not see coming at all that genuinely had me wanting to scream for all sorts of different reasons. An absolute rollercoaster of emotions.

Next to all the suspense in it though this book actually made me giggle quite a bit, the banter between the characters and our FMC‘s sarcasm are just too good and sooo relatable!!

It’s a thought out system and world while not being too complicated to read with many interesting characters.

Definitely will read the next in this series as soon as possible. I *need* to know how this continues!!!
