This is definitely the best Taylor book I’ve read yet (yes I’ve read all that’s out there) the illustrations in this book are unbelievably beautiful detailed and I loved every single one, this book was so well written it has everything for new or swifties who are “seasoned.” You get Taylor’s timeline of her career, her discography in order giving you everything you need to know about that era the songs, broken records, what track 5 means to Taylor fandom, and records she breaks, Taylor’s Easter eggs, and more! I truly loved how well researched this book is and if you love Taylor swift you need to read this book! I can’t wait to physically read own this book - I need it ASAP! Thank you so much for this advanced readers copy!
Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for the arc!
I actually really enjoyed this! As a Taylor Swift fan it was fun to read this!
I really like how the book was laid out and how it showed her growing up, family life, her discography, how she started in music. I thought putting the Easter egg section was a fun idea since Taylor Swift fans love the Easter egg hints and trying to find them!
I really loved the illustrations too!
This was a fun, quick read and I would recommend!
This book was absolutely fantastic! My daughter and I had so much fun reading this together. It was so cute! Well done.
The book illustrates the evolution of Taylor's music and is enriched with beautiful illustrations that make it visually enjoyable too.
Huge THANK YOU to NetGalley for an ARC of this book!
This was an excellent book every Swiftie and non-Swiftie should read. I loved the album summaries, covering both original and Taylor's Version releases. I can't wait to get my hands on a hardcopy of this book for my collection.
Disclosure: I received an eBook copy from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.
A must have for anyone who wants to quickly learn about Taylor's career and significant points!
As a fan myself, it was great having everything explained and formatted nicely in a handy book. For new fans, this is a must-have if you want to learn more about the Swiftieverse and some of the reasons behind certain things that happen. It is such a rabbit hole!! The graphics in here were also cute and I would say is a great start for a pre-teen getting into Taylor's music.
I would recommend reading it on a tablet vs any other device if you choose digital! I would definitely recommend this book to all Swifties - new and old!
My daughter is in her Taylor Swift era. She reads anything and everything t swift. She loved this one.
Pros: To many people, Taylor Swift really is Life, so this will be a fantastic gift to give them. My favorite part of this book is the illustrations--especially the detail given to Taylor Swift's well-known outfits. (And details are incredibly important to her fans!) I also enjoyed the section that detailed each of Taylor's albums and included fun facts. I was so impressed that this book already includes The Tortured Poets Department!
Cons: None that I can think of! (But that doesn't mean the Swifties won't have opinion...)
Thank you to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group – becker & mayer! | Epic Ink for the opportunity to read this book.
A full biography
I could simply not say No to this book when I saw it on Netgalley. The next day, I dived deep into the life and work of my current favorite singer-songwriter. My journey with Taylor began only with 1989. Therefore, it was very informative indeed to read about her early inspiration, her very first performances, and her early albums in general. The book starts with a general view on her almost 35 years of life, before we dive deeper into each album. The biography’s writer comments on the significance of each album to her personally as much as professionally. I was already aware of many background stories, but also learned a lot of new things. Especially the pat on the easter eggs was an amazing summary of the Swifties’ clowning about many of Talor’s hints.
Swiftology
More than the sole information about Taylor’s albums, awards, records, and cooperations, the author also includes interpretations on Taylor’s symbolism. Kathleen Perricone walks us through a A to Z, with the most fun details and stories as much as parts of Taylors recurring imagery. Perricone also comments on relationships that Taylor sustained to her boyfriends, family, girlfriends, and cooperators. The last part of the book then allows the readers to compare themselves with Taylor’s attitude and music in Taylorscopes for every zodiac sign. I found this part expectantly vague and therefore unnecessary and could have imagined a better use for these pages. I nonetheless enjoyed most of the book a lot and feel even more like a Swiftie now, provided with new information.
Must-Have
This book is surely a highlight for Swifties, no matter how intense you have been following TS. I am certain that every fan will find some new information. In case they don't, this book will be nonetheless a wonderful addition to their shelves. More than pure text, this book also features the most awesome illustrations of Taylor in several of her best-known outfits. It summarizes her life and work and thus offers a perfect overview for every fan.
Although the book is now released in July, the cut for any additions might have been way earlier. Taylor’s eleventh album is included in the discography. Its interpretation and additional information is nevertheless limited to the early expectations of it being mostly about Joe Alwyn. Perricone worked many years on this book but there will nonetheless be some losses in the overall density of and engagement with the information. This is not to devalue her amazing work in any way!
In conclusion
If you’re even half as much of a Swiftie as I am, you will love this book! It covers not only almost 20 years of Taylor’s career but also takes a dive into her symbolism, her inspiration, and her life connected to her expressions in songs. Accompanied by cute illustrations, this book will be an informative joy of a read!
First of all, folklore is grey, not brown.
And that is not the only inaccuracy (for example, the TTPD name: a speculation of the fans given as certain).
I like the illustrations, they are very pretty, however, that's the only positive aspect for me.
There are already a lot of books out there about Taylor Swift, so this inaccurate and incomplete one has no reason to exist. I said "incomplete" because there's no mention of The Anthology. I get it that a book is written way before publishing, however, if the focus of the book is supposed to be all of Taylor's music/life and this book is getting published way after TTPD release, then that's a problem when the iconic and showstopping double album drop is not mentioned.
As a huge Taylor Swift fan, I was so excited to see this. I did know a lot already but I liked how the albums were broken down and dissected one by one because there is so much going on with each album, they need their own space. Some of the TTPD will need to be updated now that it was officially released and there were an additional 11 songs.
Pretty short in length so it's not overly detailed. I did love the music and how each album gets its own spread but I wanted more.. like, a spread of each song 😂 I adored the illustrations with all the different outfits, they are gorgeous, and it's cool that there was an A-Z of fun facts 🎶
This one has some highs and quite a bit of lows for me. First low - the cover. It is well known that had an eating disorder, and the way we portray womens' bodies is very important especially when considering the younger audience that may be consuming this media. I'm very disappointed to see the tall extremely thinned our representations of her from the cover throughout the book. I think Taylor would be disappointed as well. I do love that this book breaks down every album, even down to the Track 5! Wow. What a great inclusion! I do not like that the section of the book that details The Tortured Poets Department doesn't include Matt Healy as one of the muses for the album, considering most of the album is clearly about him. I do feel like there's quite a bit of information in the book being touted as something they're not. For instance, just because maple lattes are mentioned doesn't mean it's her drink of choice. It cold simply relate to her relationship with Gyllenhaal.
The ultimate Taylor swift book!
Crafted with obvious admiration and love for Taylor and her work, Taylor swift is life is a beautifully illustrated biography of the singer that explores so many aspects of her life, whether it's her childhood, wardrobe, or discography, one thing's for sure is the reader is gonna finish this knowing everything there is about the singer who took the industry by storm!
The illustrations are so so very pretty they make this worthy of reading even for non swifties!
I loved this book so much I already bought a hardcopy for when it is released. The illustrations are adorable and so on brand with Taylor. As a Swiftie that has seen the Eras Tour twice I appreciated the attention to detail on all levels as well as the most up-to-date information including The Tortured Poet's Department. I enjoyed the tracklists, breakdown of the songs and the discussion of easter eggs as well as the . I loved it all. I have seen a lot of Taylor books especially since she announced the Eras Tour and this by far is the best one I have seen.
As a Swiftie, I was very excited to read this book. It has everything from new Swifties to people who have been fans of her for years! This book was jampacked with information, even I learned a few things while reading it. The illustrated graphics and illustrations of her iconic outfits offered a bit of whimsy and nostalgia, that made my heart happy.
I was disappointed by how much this book focused on the relationships of Taylor's life, especially when the author referred to Cory Monteith as an ex when they were publicly never stated to be more than friends and "Kaylor" when Taylor has pleaded her fans to stop shipping her with her friends and made a statement about not being a part of the LGBTQ+ community in 2019. Beyond that, the author made the timeline of her career a little fuzzy, particularly with the Borchetta-Braun fiasco which is most likely due to the fact that they do not want to be sued for libel. This book could have been a lot more fun if it had actually focused on the Swiftie fandom and Easter eggs but in it's current form, I find it at best, boring, and at worst, disrespectful to the artist the author claims is "life".
Thank you NetGalley, Quarto Publishing Group, and Kathleen Perricone for allowing to read this book in exchange for my honest opinion (unpaid).
I have loved Taylor's music since I was a kid so I really wanted to know more about her and this was a great insight into her and her life! I think this would be perfect for new Swifties or anyone like me who is a long time listener and wants to know more about the artist behind the music
I am not a superfan, of Taylor Swift or anyone else. I have been exposed to some Swift superfans, who have shared lots of trivia and fun facts with me. I sat through the Eras tour on Disney+. I quite like Swift's music, but am fascinated by her fandom. This book is super-cute, illustrated with hand-drawn pictures of Swift in all her iconic costumes. It uses previous interviews for all it's quotes, but actually gives the source and date of these in the text. Does this book have much (any) information that a "superfan" wouldn't already know? Probably not, but it is a well written, prettily presented, really fun wander through Taylor Swift's life and career. I would buy this book in hardback for my Swiftie friends coffee table, it's just so pretty.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for an e-arc of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This book is the perfect palate cleanser between challenging reads, perfect for all the swifties who want to find out more about their favourite blondie. It is a very quick read, perfect even for people who usually don’t read much.
I enjoyed a lot the biography part but what had me mostly excited was her discography. I loved reading about all the albums (even the tortured poet’s department is included) and their covers, titles, lyrics and other anecdotes.
I found the explanation about the different Easter eggs particularly helpful to take some of the hints that Taylor dropped without me noticing.
Last but not least, I appreciated the idea of putting a “Taylorscope” in the end, that assigned a song from Tay to each zodiac sign with even an explanation and description.
To sum up, I would recommend this book particularly to those who are new to this fandom or want to discover more about Taylor both as a person and as an artist.
