An Age of Winters by Gemma Liviero is an interesting historical fiction that takes us into the heart of Europe during the 17th century.
I found this book very compelling, and it kept me hooked the entire time.
Gemma Liviero tells a fascinating story of "witches" and witchfinders in the 17th century.

Thank You NetGalley and Lake Union Publishing for your generosity and gifting me a copy of this amazing eARC!

Well written - albeit dark - historical fiction. Liviero has created a believable and sympathetic character in Katarin, a woman trapped by her circumstances. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. A very good read.

An Age of Winters by Gemma Liviero.

In 1625, the Franconian village of Eisbach has been plagued by disease, famine, heinous crimes, and a merciless winter. Katarin Jaspers is the maidservant to the enigmatic Reverend Zacharias Engel, appointed by Rome to cure the village of suspected diabolism and save every God-fearing soul.
An enjoyable read with a different take on a witchcraft story. The author obviously knows her witch history because the book was totally believable with how the era was quick to accuse those who were seen as a bit different or who had wronged someone somehow.

I loved the gothic feel of this novel. The writing was so atmospheric and haunting. I have to say, that I did get so confused with the characters at times. I think that had mainly to do with the German names/titles. This will stay with me for quite some time after reading. I look forward to more by this author. This was just the dark, gothic, involved story that I needed to escape into. I felt, as I was reading, that I was transported to another era. Loved this. 4.5 stars.

An Age of Winters by Gemma Liviero is an interesting historical fiction that takes us into the heart of Europe during the 17th century…as well as with witch hunts.

This was an entertaining, intriguing, and addictive novel that puts the reader into the village of Eisbach (which is what is within what we would now call Germany) during a dark time of many adversaries: witch hunts, fear, confusion, illness, plagues, and societal unrest.

The author did a great job creating realistic and complex characters that really brings a human aspect to a time that was so long ago. There was suspense throughout, and the events seem real, raw, and compelling.

I really enjoyed this one and look forward to reading more from this author.

An Age of Winters by G. Liviero, published by Lake Union Publishing is a heartwrenchingly and thrilling story rthat stays with the reader long after finishing the book.
An historic novel, set in the seventeeth century in a german village plagued by disease, famine and crime.
Be aware its the time where the Malleus Maleficarum / Hexenhammer / Hammer of Witches by Heinrich Kramer was at his popularest.
And Reverend Zacharias Engel (Angel ) is appointed from Rome to solve the problem. And soon and behold very soon he finds his first witch, what happens to her, we know too well.
And there's Katarina, his maid servant, fatuated with him.
A story of unrequited love, betrayal, forgiveness, literally unputdownable, a pageturning story that grips you with both hands.

I was kind of torn with this review. I feel like 50% was great, then the rest I was a little bored. I am definitely open to re-reading this book in the future because there is an element that is different. I finished it, it was an easy down to earth read.
