The Almost Girl
By Amalie Howard
December 17, 2013
The Almost Girl is a science fiction young adult book about seventeen year old Riven who is the right hand to Prince Cale. She finds herself in a remote modern day Earth to find Prince Cale’s brother Caden. In a realm that she is unaware of, Riven must fit in, and battle against time itself in order to bring Caden home.
I am not the biggest fan of Sci-Fi, so it took me some time to get into the story. And I also thought that the characters were nothing really special, they didn’t stand out to me. It felt like the romance did not fit in, like there was no time or romance in it.
Thank you to Sky Pony and NetGalley for this e-ARC in exchange for a review.
I really enjoyed this story. I was pulled into the Riven's world and their ins and outs of everything. It's interesting to see the differences between Earth and Neospes and how people are treated and regarded. Riven has to figure out how to blend in with teenagers on Earth. Even though she herself is the same age as them, her upbringing in Neospes forced her to grow up quicker and act more like an adult at an incredibly young age. Howard also I did a good job of trying to keep the characters true to themselves and their characteristics.
