What a brilliant book. I'm a big fan of Hamza and interested in birds, so this book seemed a perfect match. His character and passion for wildlife really shines through and this is a great book for those starting out with an interest in birds and birdwatching.

What a charming book.

Be a Birder opens with an entire chapter detailing the author’s arrival in the UK, his schooling and university life and his somewhat untypical entry into the world of birding – an area that continues to lack diversity. The remainder of the book identifies fifty British birds to look out for, ranging from the easy to spot – e.g. the blackbird – through to those most will never encounter in their lifetime – e.g. the capercaillie. We’re informed about the kind of habitat in which each bird may be found, as well as an array of interesting facts.

The book is written in an engaging style that will appeal to all. Highly recommended.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publishers, Gaia, for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I’ve always loved birds and found this book really interesting. It was packed with so much information and had detailed pictures.
I can’t wait to try and spot some of the birds I have learnt about.
