This is the second book in this series where we have Margot who’s father was a serial killer and is locked up though they still don’t know all of his victims. He likes to use that to get his daughter to come visit him which is horrible for her mental health. Margot is a detective and is investigating the murder of a prostitute all while her city is under fire by a snipper. These are some of the cases she faces and all the while she does great keeping things light and funny. This is a series I will be keeping up with.

“O’Halloran looked as if someone had found a cop who had died in 1976 and brought him back to life, then forced him to return to work.”

I was super intrigued and impressed with book 1 in the Det. Margot Phalen series, so when book 2 became available, I jumped at the chance to read it. This sequel did not disappoint. While Margot is still working on the double homicide case from book 1, she also gets thrown into some other brutal cases, a dead woman in a park and a mass shooter on the loose. Add being summoned by her serial killer father, it is fair to say her life is a lot more than chaotic.

Margot is desperately trying to keep her own sanity together while doing what she feels is right. Her father, who has already admitted to 60+ killings, is going to confess to more, but only to her. She decides to sacrifice her peace to help bring closure to these families, something she will never be able to have herself. Her superiors worry she might be taking on too much, so they decide to put her on desk duty. Even while being sidelined, she still manages to crack these really hard cases. To top it off, she helps close a missing persons case that was never tied to her dad, but was ultimately committed by him. Now she has to decide if she is willing to help more families, or help herself.

I really enjoyed the character progression Margot is going through here. She is more vulnerable and less closed off to the reader. There are also hints of romantic feelings starting to show more and more towards her partner He is her safe space and one of the few people who knows who her dad is. He is what is keeping her out of the black hole threatening to engulf her. This is fast paced, gripping, intriguing, and left me ready for the next book! I am a huge fan of Karin Slaughter, and to me, this series is reminiscent to her work. I will for sure pick up the next book in this series or anything else Kate Wiley has written. Highly recommend!

Wow I've just found a new fave author. I've not read book #1 yet but this story stood alone and gave quite a bit of insight into the characters past.
Detective Margot SFPD Homicide, used to be Megan, the daughter of a serial killer. She now hides her past from nearly everyone, a young teen when her father was arrested she lives her life without ugly scrutiny.
Margot and her team have several cases, deaths and a serial killer. Traumatic enough without other things in her life like visiting her father in prison with the FBI to help find another victim.
The story zipped on by as I read one cold afternoon. I'm going to hunt for the first book now and see what else this author has written.

I did not realize this was a second to a series. However I did not feel lost. Based on the reading though I would enjoy going back and reading book one!

I enjoyed reading Her Father’s Secret by Kate Wiley .   Thank you to Netgalley and Storm Publishing for an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review

Thank you to NetGalley and Storm Publishing for allowing me to read an ARC of this book. It wasn't until I finished this book that I realized it was #2 in a series. I don't feel that I missed out on anything and it was not hard to follow so that is a definite plus. I liked the story, but at times it seemed to ramble a bit, making it hard for me to REALLY get into it. I don't think that I need to go back and read the first one of the series; but if another book in the series comes out I may give it a go.

I can for sure say that I really love Kate Wiley's writing style. It's very appealing to me and makes it easy to fly through the book. I like how there's more than just one story happening throughout the book. With this being a police procedural, it intrigues me that there's several cases going on. It makes it more realistic.

In this story, we follow Detective Margot Phalen as she continues to receive messages from her father who is a notorious serial killer. He wants her to visit him in prison in order to get information from him. This weighs over her heavily because it's mentally traumatizing each time. While all of this is going on, she also works on other cases.

This book wasn't as good as the first book, but I still really enjoyed it. I feel like it's hard to make a series with each one being equally as interesting, but this is pretty close. I like the creativity for the other cases. It makes me not want to put it down because I was so intrigued to find out what was going to happen. Which makes me very excited for future books. I'm eager to read the rest of her series.

** Thank you NetGalley and Storm Publishing for my digital copy. I'm very grateful. **

The first book I have read by this author but I must say it was really good, this is book two in the series but it’s about her serial killer father passing on titbits of information to his daughter who is now a police detective. I feel this will be a great series as there are so many avenues this could go up so nothing is predictable and I like that. The characters are strong and tough which is what you need for this to be able to work so well. Another book I found hard to put down as was never sure what was going to happen next and would they catch the sniper before he killed more people.

Her Father's Secret is a great read.

This is book 2 in the series. I really wish I went back to read book 1 because this book was absolutely fantastic! I can not wait for book 3! This is another new to me author and she is on my radar!

This book is about a detective who's father is a serial killer. I did not put this book down once I started it. The author did a fantastic job setting up the story, and the characters a great. If you like female MC Sleuth, mystery, thriller book then this is the book for you!

Please read Trigger warnings if they may effect you.

Utterly addictive crime thriller. The characters are real and raw. The Detective Margot Phalen series does not disappoint. I cannot wait for Book 3. Our author makes it easy to relate to Margot Phalen and to share her emotional journey and experiences while being the daughter of one of the most prolific serial killers ever. The pieces to each story unfolds with perfect timing leaving you rip roaring through the pages to see what happens next

Conflicted and complex female detectives who are caught in push/pull relationships with their peers and family have become a trope that I seem drawn to. In Her Father’s Secret, Wiley presents Margot Phelan, homicide detective and daughter of a serial killer, with carefully delivered finesse. As Margot walks an emotional tightrope dealing with community chaos and facing personal traumas, I was drawn to the nuances in her emotional weaknesses, control, and growth . Wiley has established a solid foundation for Phelan, her father, and, hopefully, her hot partner and supportive supervisor to be with us for the long haul, and I look forward to seeing the characters evolve in future entries in the series.

Thank you to Storm Publishing, Netgalley, and the author, for early access to this captivating police procedural.

Book Two in the Detective Margot Phalen series, HER FATHER’S SECRET by Kate Wiley was a thrill ride from start to finish. I was racing through the twists and turns to see how this played out.

While a sniper begins taking fire on San Francisco, Margot and her partner are called in to investigate a missing person’s case. As they search for clues, Margot is contacted by special agent Andrew Rhodes of the FBI with whom she developed a close relationship after her father was convicted of being one of the most prolific serial killers in American history. Her father is willing to divulge information on some of his victims but only to Margot. Margot agrees to meet with her father and steels herself against the mind games she knows he will be playing. She agrees to this meeting as a bargaining chip in the FBI completing ballistics testing on the sniper’s bullets.

As the three cases seem to converge and Margot is thrown back into the past, she is working hard to maintain her grip on the present. When it appears that her missing persons case may actually be a homicide, she is forced to work with a former colleague with whom she has little regard.

I must admit that I had not read book one of the Margot Phalen series but I certainly will now. The writing was clear and concise and I could feel myself growing tense as Margot’s meeting with her father grew closer and hear the whiz of the bullet as it went by my head. This was a short, quick read and well worth the time.

Thank you to NetGalley and Storm Publishing for this ARC opportunity. All opinions are my own and given voluntarily.

I have been eagerly awaiting this one to see what more Margot’s father has to say and I did thoroughly enjoy it, as Margot is busily doing her best to solve murders that are happening around the San Francisco area with her partner Wes, she is asked to visit her father notorious serial killer Ed Finch he has another body to give up, can Margot keep doing this sitting across from her father to give the families of the missing woman closure?

The pressure is on Margot as not only are there murders for her to solve but there is also a sniper on the loose and visiting her father gets harder he wants to ask her questions to know what is happening all the time, but her biggest question is how many more victims are there, and will he ever give them all up?

This one was a bit slower than the first one but filled with action and it was good getting to know more about Margot and her past as Ed opens up about his victims, I am sure there will be more to come in this series and I look forward to it. I recommend this one to anyone who enjoys a good mystery, crime story.

My thanks to Storm Publishing and Netgalley for my digital copy to read and review.

Thanks to #NetGalley and #StormPublishing for the book #HerFathersSecret by #KateWiley. I absolutely loved this book and just realized I didn’t read the first one. So that is up next. This book is about a woman named Margot, previously Megan before she found out her father was a serial killer. Margot is a cop and trying to get by without anyone knowing the truth. Her father likes to feed her information on his kills. But just how much can one person take?

This book was extremely gripping from the get go and from the minute I started reading it I didn’t want to put it down. I felt that the first book in the series provided a good base for becoming invested in the characters, however the second book built on that massively and I found myself more and more invested as the pages went on in this book. Something that really stood out for me (other than the plot) was the writing style. I really enjoyed the way it flashed back between present day chapters and still managed to do it in a way that flowed perfectly. I’m so glad I discovered this series and I already can’t wait for the third one. Without a doubt a 5* read in my opinion!

Her Father's Secret is Kate Wiley's second book in the Margot Phelan Series. It is a spell- binding, keep you on the edge of your seat thriller. Margot's father Ed Finch is serving life in prison for the brutal murders of at least 77 women. Although Margo moved away from her family's hometown and changed her name, she cannot escape the fear and shame of being Ed Finch's daughter. After being in a New York prison for years he has been transferred to a San Francisco facility and is playing mind games with Margot. He has initiated contact through his attorney and dangles snippets of information that may lead to finding a body or a new victim. While Margot hates him,she feels a responsibility to each victim and their loved ones to see justice done. In addition to this burden, Margot is dealing with a cold case, the bodies of two women discovered in a local park; the brutal murder of a young prostitute and a sniper on the loose. Her Father's Secret is a fast paced, very well crafted novel; I am anxiously awaiting the release of what I hope will be a third book in this series. Thanks to NetGalley, Storm Publishing and Kate Wiley for the opportunity to read and review an ARC of Her Father's Secret. 4 stars

Detective Margot Phalen would like to forget that her father is incarcerated for dozens of murders, but the FBI has enlisted her help in locating more of his presumed victims. While she deals with the emotional turmoil of visiting him in prison, she and her partner are investigating a double murder and trying to stop a sniper in the city -- one who may have police officers as his target.

Though this is the second book in the series, it stands alone as strong police drama and it neatly tied up most of the loose ends, leaving the way clear for a third book.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC. All opinions are my own.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this advanced copy. Margot is a detective who has spent her life running from the fact that her father is a serial killer. Now, he only wants to confide in her. She is so nervous. But does what he asks. This was a thrilling ride all the way to the end.
