Kitty has a high powered job in Dublin but her partner Dave is slowing chipping away at any confidence she has left. It all blows up when he decides she’s pressuring him and he goes to stay with his overbearing other.
Kitty’s friend Shazz comes up with plans to help her have more fun so they end up joining a football team and meet up with brothers Rory and Tom. They begin to get close all four of them then Dave comes back expecting to treated like returning hero. Kittys creative side has dried up does she really want to marry Dave or has she a future with Tom.
Great read highly recommended
Enjoyed this even if it felt like the story was a little lacking. Dave and kitty love together Kitty. Dave is unsure about their future and moves back home to his mammy- who ends up being a nutter..... kitty throws herself into life in Sandycove along the way meets a handsome vet and falls for him- a few bumps on d Road including Dave deciding he wants back in and his mother's nuttiness showing. Kitty and the handshake vet find their way ❤️
Kitty is a copywriter from Sandycove, near Dublin. She has lived with Dave for the past five years, but the spark has disappeared from their relationship, this is not helped by his need to wear his dead Dad's clothes. Kitty is stuck.
This book is about self-discovery, finding who you are and who you want to be, Kitty has been going through the paces for too long, which is why this book will resonate with so many people. Whether you are stuck in a relationship or a job you are unhappy in, this is the book for you.
Along the way, you will meet several well-developed characters who all influence and affect Kitty in some way, these are brilliantly written and nicely introduced throughout the book so you don't feel overwhelmed by an abundance of characters.
Sian O'Gorman has written a beautiful piece of contemporary women's fiction. I laughed and cried while reading this, which was unexpected as I am not normally a fan of this story-telling style. The author has done an excellent job, plus, quietly promoting Ireland fantastically. If you don't want to visit after reading this I would be surprised!
Thank you to @rachelsrandomresources for the opportunity to review this book.
@msogorman - congratulations on such a well constructed story - loved it.

For Once In My Life is a book that I loved reading and that may have led me to talk out loud to the main characters.
After her boyfriend goes back to his mother, Kitty and her best friend, Shazza, who is also recently single, decide they need to enjoy life more and to their surprise end up joining a local football team.
I enjoyed Kitty finding herself, her voice, and living life outside of her comfort zone. The characters, minus Dave and his mom, are all fun and I really enjoyed them - they added depth to the story.
The book has love, humor, heartache, and women finding themselves. All ingredients for a terrific read.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this book in consideration of an honest review. All opinions are my own.
Loved loved loved this book! Started
And finished it yesterday afternoon in the sun! Was perfect book for a holiday read!
I now want to live in Samdycove! Loved all the characters except for save and his mum who I wanted to slap 😂 Kitty at times I wanted to shake but she got there in the end!
A heartwarming book about friendship and new beginnings! Think I need to put into practice what I have just read! Can’t wait for the next
Sandy cove book! Always a fab read!
Kitty’s boyfriend Dave has gone back to his mum having been in the doldrums for a while. Kitty is neat, tidy and organised, something Dave finds an anathema and Kitty’s work is also suffering from her being drained. Shazza, who is Kitty’s best friend, is also recently single but lives life at the other end, being loud and rather “out there” but finding little satisfaction in return. The two get together and decide they need to find more fun in life and get pushed into joining the local five a side football team along with two brothers who have also been pushed by a relative. Can Kitty get her spark back and perhaps even Dave or even a new life?
This is a fun, at times for me, emotional read. I confess I did want to say a few choice words to Dave and even his mum as he was so self centred. Sometimes we can’t see the wood for the trees in life and find ourselves either busy or bored, or even being taken advantage of when there is that line in between to enjoy whatever we are doing. Kitty can't see what her life with Dave has really been like, other than Shazza doing her best to tell her however Kitty, like some, puts everyone before herself.. This is the story of finding that balance in many ways. I liked and felt for Kitty having found myself in not dissimilar circumstances, not knowing which way was up and how to change things. It’s a warm-hearted, uplifting look at life, one to perhaps reflect on. A highly enjoyable, reflective, feel good read.

We’re back in Sandycove where we meet Kitty and her best friend Shazza. The friends are total opposite in terms of personality with Kitty being organised and quietly reserved and Shazza being rather dysfunctional and loud. Their friendship works though and Shazza says everything to Kitty that I wanted to say when it comes to her boyfriend Dave.
I really did want to give Kitty a good shake when it comes to her relationship with Dave and his horrible mother. She has always put him first and can’t see the woods from the trees when it comes to how he treats her. She is a real people pleaser putting everyone before herself. Not only is she at a loss when it comes to her relationship but she seems to have lost her mojo in her working life as well. I loved the thread to do with her work as it made me fall in love with Ireland even more even though I have yet to go!
There is a lot of humorous moments as well as some fabulous characters that we get to meet. There is also some more sobering topics but if anything the story is a reminder to live for the now as well as putting yourself first. Family and friendship play a strong part throughout.
For Once in My Life was a wonderfully uplifting novel that melted my heart. The setting, the characters, I just loved everything about it. There is so much warmth that truly tugs at your heart and makes you appreciate the people in your life. A must read that will lighten your heart and mind!
