Everything and the Moon by Julia Quinn

Blurb

Seven years ago she broke his heart...

When Robert Kemble stumbles across Victoria Lyndon in hedgerow maze, he can't believe his eyes. The girl who'd torn him in two, who let him plan on elopement and then left him standing by the side of the road, was suddenly within arm's reach, and even though his fury still knew no bounds, she was impossible to resist...

My Opinion

Before you start, this is not like the Bridgerton series - nor is the writing as polished but nevertheless it is an enjoyable book. My favourite part was the love at first sight section in the beginning and then there are a lot of obstacles in the path of Robert and Victoria. For me, this was a cute story that gets off to a slow start.

Rating 4/5

I read this book when it was first published in paperback, and having read all of Quinns' books and listened to the audiobooks of Bridgerton I was delighted to have this one to review. Initially I was a bit unsure of the narrator as Rosalyn Landor has become inextricably linked with Julia Quinn in my head. However this narrator does an excellent job. I love both the Lyndon stories and this is a great start to introducing the characters. I can recommend all of the ancillary books Julia Quinn has written, and we come across familiar people throughout. Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for an advance copy of Everything and the Moon.

It was indisputably love at first sight. But Victoria Lyndon was merely the teenaged daughter of a vicar, whilst Robert Kemble was the dashing young earl of Macclesfield. Surely what their meddlesome fathers insisted must have been true-that he was a reckless seducer determined to destroy her innocence. . . and she was a shameless fortune hunter. So it most certainly was for the best when their plans to elope went hopelessly awry. Even after a seven-year separation, Victoria-now a governess-still leaves Robert breathless.
I read the book several years ago & loved revisiting it via the audiobook. Olivia does a stellar job of bringing the book to life. I loved both Robert & Victoria & thoroughly enjoyed their long journey to a HEA. Whilst the author is now widely known for her televised series I’d recommend reading her other works & I highly recommend this series
I voluntarily read and reviewed a special copy of this audiobook; all thoughts and opinions are my own

Beginning with a coming-of-age sweet romance that ends tragically, the second part of the story finds Victoria working as a governess for an ungrateful family and Robert, a rake. Again, this encounter also ends badly. Victoria disappears, and Robert discovers she works as a seamstress and appears content. He is determined to rescue her, but does she want this, or is she enjoying her independence?
Victoria's and Robert's character development is good. They mature as the story progresses, but their attraction and emotional connection remain. I like the dynamic between them and the conflicts to their happy-ever-after. The romance is lovely, and the dialogue between the couple is engaging.
The narrator brings the characters and events to life, making it easy to discern the different characters and their emotional states. It is a story that works well in audio.

I received a copy of the audiobook from the publisher.

The narrator of this book is simply outstanding and really brings the story to life, which is unusual for a Regency romance, in my experience, so I will now be looking for other books she has narrated. The story is also excellent and I was engrossed from the first chapter. I loved the instalove theme and that Robert was the one who first discovered their families’ machinations and try to make amends later on. Both Robert and Victoria are very likeable characters who very much deserve their ‘happily ever after’ ending. It was a joy to listen to and I can’t wait for the next book in the series.

Another masterpiece by Julia. Unputdownable historical romance that hooked me instantaneously & kept me engaged. Beautifully written & very well narrated.

Thank you to the publishers and NetGalley for the ALC.

DNF @ 25%

I really wanted to love this. The narrator is phenomenal. The writing is fast paced and engaging. Victoria is a compelling protagonist, in interesting circumstances. But the entire plot is miscommunication, which is hands down my least favourite thing in romance novels. I was even willing to look past the initial, set up miscommunication and give the author the benefit of the doubt. But after so many opportunities for the main couple to talk to each other are brushed off, simply to keep the miscommunication going, I had to tap out.

I think fans of love-to-hate-to-love, miscommunication, devilish rakes, and love at first sight would love this. The audiobook really is a treat to listen to. It's unfortunate the romance wasn't more to my taste.

I've loved the Bridgerton series from the start but (shamefully) never read the books. When I saw that Julia Quinn had a new series of books out, I thought it would be the perfect way to correct that. The narrator for this book is really skilled, bringing the plot to life with a variety of voices for the characters. However, something about the book didn't hit right for me. I think the answer to this lies in the face that I am not a fan of the insta-love trope and I didn't really gel with the Earl of Macklesfield. I need to be rooting for the couple to really enjoy a romance and I didn't feel that for this book. Sadly, this was a DNF for me.

I do think I will be in the minority for this though and it will be the perfect audiobook for fans of historical romance and readers who have loved the previous books from this author.

Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the chance to review an advanced copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

I thought the narrator did an excellent job in this audiobook. I would love to see more of Julia Quinn’s novels narrated by her.

Once you wade through the initial use of both the ‘insta love’ and miscommunication tropes and chose to overlook the unsettling age difference between the 24 year old love interest and our 17 year old heroine (I know this is historically accurate) this book is a lot of fun! The enemies-to-lovers that rises from the ashes allows for fun banter between the characters and a range of intriguing predicaments during this second chance romance novel.

Not too sure about the portrayal of consent in this book which occasionally left me questioning Robert, hence the 3⭐️.

This was a fast-paced easy read which I would recommend to those looking for regency era scandal.

I’ve been a big fan of the Bridgerton books (and series) so I was naturally intrigued about this one. I already know the author writes a good historical regency era romance so the chance to get to know some new characters was one I couldn’t pass up!

We go from the Bridgertons to the Lyndon Sisters. Victoria takes centre stage in this one - daughter of a country vicar, she manages to catch the attention of an Earl and a future marquis.

It’s a fast mover and launches out the gates from the get go. Given how quickly things moved, I was even more intrigued how the rest of the hundreds of pages were going to go. Or ten hours in my case, I listened to the greatly narrated audiobook read by Olivia Darnley who fit the role perfectly.

I enjoyed this story and the introduction to the Lyndon sisters. I already love Eleanor and Victoria was very easy to get to like. Although she did slightly start to grate on me with her indecision and I couldn’t quite decide if Robert was an utter bag or endearingly persistent. I was leaning towards bag but I did enjoy the dynamic between the two.

Will definitely continue on with this series and read the next one as I really did like Ellie and I’m excited to read her story. It set itself up to be a great follow up!

Victoria is the Vicar's Daughter and Robert is the Earl of Macclesfield they fall in love but after their families intervene are forced to part.

This was a rollercoaster of a story with lots of twists and turns. The character development was vast and I empathised with them. The narrator was good and easy to follow. I thoroughly enjoyed this book.

Was he terrible? Yea. Was she fighting for her life- literally? Yeah. Did i eat it up? I really did LMAO. It had the potential to be a super angsty mutual pining forbidden romance but he kinda just got more and more toxic as the book went on- i kept waiting for him to LISTEN to her about her wanting her independence and for a second i thought he did but then it was downhill from there. That’s not to say i won’t be eating up the next book :)))) i can criticise the character and still binge the book in a day and have a great time :D
ALSO THIS NARRATOR WAS FANTASTIC!!!! Genuinely one of the best I’ve listened to!! She did such a fab job omg

Tropes: Regency Romance, Second Chance, Love at First Sight.

The book is emotional, heart warming and touching. This was such a roller coaster ride. I liked the characters and character development. The fate that brought two fated lovers together, also set them apart but couldn’t keep them apart for long. The Narrator did a good job.

Victoria Lyndon is a daughter of a vicar. She lives with her father and sister. She is kind, beautiful and loves to immerse herself in books. While she also enjoy nature. Robert Kemble is a young earl of Macclesfield. As soon as he set his upon Miss Lyndon, she bedazzled him. Their paths gets entwined but destiny throws obstacles in their path. It was love at first sight but destiny kept them apart or perhaps miscommunication from Robert’s side. Robert promised to marry her but his father kept them apart. After seven long years of separation, Robert gets to know truth and Victoria’s father words proved to be true for her and everything that happened with her disheartened her. Once Robert has broken her heart. Now when Robert returns after seven years, Victoria is not certain about him. Will she give him second chance? Will Robert be able to prove his love to Victoria?

Thanks to the Author, Narrator and Publisher.

A deliciously seductive novel by the same author who penned the Brigerton Novels: Julia Quinn. Everything and the Moon is the first in a duet in The Lyndon Sisters novels. When a young Earl Robert Kemble stumbles upon vicar's daughter Victoria Lyndon his heart is lost. Interfering fathers see the unsuitable match is thwarted and broken hearted the pair are parted until a chance encounter seven years later when they lock eyes. Both filled with misplaced anger and resentment, passions are high and hatred soon sizzles into much more. A regency romance that will have you reaching for your fan to keep cool. The audiobook was wonderfully narrated and captured the heat and romance perfectly. #everythingandthemoon #thelyndonsisters #Juliaquinn #netgalley #regencyromance
