Darcy works as a nurse in the private sector providing care for patients in their home. She starts a new job with her fellow nurse Pippa at a beautiful, large house where Adrian and Scarlett live. Scarlett, having had a fall has been left with brain damage that caused memory loss. Something instinctual tells Darcy there is more to the story.

This book was a wild ride, there was one major twist I didn't see coming, but the rest were a little predictable. It was still an enjoyable fast paced. read, but didn't blow me away.

Thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Daniel Hurst has quickly made his way to being one of my favorite authors! This book kept with his normal writing style being fast paced and full of twists. This story, for me, was intriguing from the start. My first thought was that this book was the typical "wife has seemingly normal accident, but was it an accident" plot, but this book completely surpassed my expectations. That first plot twist was boom, mind blown and in true Daniel fashion, it didn't stop there. I am excited to see that this book will be a series and am so looking forward to reading the next one!

Another winner of a book with Daniel Hurst’s latest The Perfect Nurse. This starts off with Darcy and Pippa who are nurses who have a new patient to take care of. Scarlett needs full time care due to an accident so they are there to help. What follows that kept me glued to each word, each page … I could not put it down! This is an absolute must read and it looks like it will be a series too - I love Daniel’s series. One is better than the next.. My mind was blown at the end. Loved it. Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for this advance copy in exchange for my honest review. To be published July 2024.

As she stares at her reflection, her bloodstained hands and haunted gaze reflect the weight of her actions, the consequences of which will forever alter the course of her life.

The chilling narrative of Darcy, a nurse who finds herself entangled in a web of deception. Darcy's initial presentation as an ordinary individual, clad in the familiar white uniform of a nurse, belies the turmoil that rages within her.

The intrusion into her home serves as a stark reminder that her secret is far from safe, and the consequences of her actions may soon come crashing down upon her.

Another brilliant book, by Daniel Hurst. I was drawn in from the very start and I was gripped to its pages until the very end.
The narrative unfolded with an intricate web of twists and turns, keeping me on the edge of my seat, eager to unravel the secrets that lie ahead. The plot, meticulously crafted and expertly executed, weaved a tapestry of suspense.
Thank you to Daniel Hurst, NetGalley and Bookouture for an early copy.

Many thanks to netgalley, the author and bookouture for approving my request to read this book.

The story starts with two nurses Darcy and Pippa being assigned a new patient to care for. Scarlett is currently being looked after her husband Adrian after an accident at home has left her incapacitated but is everything really as it seems?

It's hard to give too detailed a review without spoiling anything but the The Perfect Nurse is a fast paced thriller with plenty of twists- I actually didn't see them all coming either which I enjoyed, it definitely got my brain ticking!

I will definitely be reading more from this author and look forward to his next book.

This was a super fast read that overall kept my attention and was enjoyable. It had a great plot twist that made sense and was a fun storyline.

I feel like I’m the only one who didn’t understand her “patient” telling her to lock her door at night? If they were her parents, why would her mom tell her to lock her door from her dad?

Thank you Netgalley and bookouture for the ARC!

2.75 - I really wanted to give this a high rating, especially since I was lucky enough to get an ARC. I briefly browsed the reviews before requesting the book and thought that it would be something I enjoyed...I didn't.

Characters:
Omg Darcy was not my favorite character whatsoever. She hugged the patient's spouse like 5 minutes into meeting him (feels unprofessional), stalks the patient and takes videos of her outside her house at night, and takes a ton of sleeping pills (this in itself isn't a problem, but coupled with everything else?). She aggressively questioned both Scarlett and Adrian, which was so inappropriate considering her role as nurse. After the big plot twist she made a lot of highly questionable decisions that I thought were not the best to make. I have some sympathy for her due to her backstory but not enough to overlook how much I disliked her.

Plot:
It started off like the plot described in the blurb of the nurse taking care of a woman and thinking something is off with the situation. After the big plot twist, the plot takes a hard turn into basically a completely different book. The tone was different, the main idea had changed, and I didn't really like it. The second half reads like a Freida McFadden (not in a good way) and kind of took away from how much I liked the plot twist.

The plot twist was the best part of this book! I thought it was clever and gave just enough hints for the reader to figure out (my pet peeve s random plot twists that had no hints before, and this was not that). It made a lot of sense and it was interesting.

Also the random flashback at the start of the book was unnecessary, I had forgotten about it as soon as the main plot started and when I figured out the context, I didn't really care.

Writing:
The writing was fine, I had no qualms with it. It was easy to read and there was enough description of the characters, setting, and motivations for me to understand what was going on.

Overall, the book was fine. If you're looking for a thrilling nurse story, this is that (for the first half at least). This was an easy thriller that I could read quite quickly.

Thank you to NetGalley + Bookouture for this ARC!

Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture, and Daniel Hurst for the advanced copy in exchange for my review.

This book was good, fast paced, easy to read and several unexpected twists.

Plot:
The premise of this book was great. Details are hard to explain without giving away spoilers but the premise was very interesting and got my attention. When you think you had it all figured out, the twist came out and left you shocked. However, there was a few story lines that could have been developed further to really jazz it up. I would have happily read more pages to keep this story going. The main twist happened pretty early on so I was heavily interested to see how this author was going to finish the book. The ending felt rushed and lacked excitement in my opinion. Again, hard to really explain without giving away spoilers.

Characters:
The characters were interesting. They were developed enough to get a sense of who they are. Darcy and Pippa well developed but characters mentioned later on in the book have less to paint a picture of. That being said, it was easy to keep track of who is who as there wasn’t an overwhelming amount of characters.

Writing:
The writing style was good. It’s not the authors first book and it’s evident that he knows how to keep readers interested in the book. There was excellent descriptions of the character’s thoughts and feelings, as well as vivid descriptions of the setting without overdoing it.

Takeaway: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
I think this was a great fast paced, easy to read book. The ending fell a bit short but the beginning was incredibly well written. I would definitely read more from this author. I took away two stars only because there could have been a more interesting ending that was on par with the first twist. I was expecting more to tie it all together. I would definitely recommend this book to others and would likely purchase it once it’s released.

Flippin’ brilliant, as always.

I just love this authors style of writing. He has a way of drawing the reader in immediately, and keeping you hooked from beginning to end.

I always say, it doesn’t really matter if you figure it out if the writing is still brilliant to keep you hooked. I wanted to find out the why, and I wasn’t disappointed.

Darcy is having a hard time with life, and we're not really sure why. She relies on sleeping pills that usually leave her groggy and hung over the following morning. Her co-worker Pippin is energetic and upbeat, always arriving at Darcy's house to make her coffee and ensure that her scrubs are on and that she's ready to report to work.

The women have a new assignment--they will be providing home health services for Scarlett, an older woman who was injured in a fall at her home and left with brain damage. Her husband Adrian is doing a good job caring for her, but like any full-time caregiver, he needs a break.

Darcy feels something is off about this couple. Relying solely on intuition, she begins to wonder if Scarlett really had an accident. She doesn't like the way she can't speak to her without Adrian showing up, and she definitely doesn't like the fear she seems to show when her husband is around. Then something strange happens...Adrian asks her if she would be interested in overnight shifts for extra pay. Her curiosity wins, and she feels that she can get to the bottom of what's going on in that house if she's in it full-time. When Scarlett tells her to lock her door at night, that's when things really took off.

You absolutely must suspend disbelief with all of the events that happen next. I see that this will be the first book in the series, so I'm anxious to see how some events will play out later that were only hinted at in this installment. Enjoyable and easy to binge. 3.5 stars rounded up. Thank you to Bookouture for the early copy. This title will publish July 1, 2024.

I immediately seek out Daniel’s books as soon as he releases them. I’m so happy NetGalley provided this ARC. I loved this book, and it appears this one will be part of a series! At first, I had no clue what was happening but I just enjoyed the reading journey. Once the initial shocking twist was revealed, I couldn’t imagine what the rest of the book would entail. But it just kept getting better! This is one of those books where you just enjoy reading without wanting it to end. I can’t wait for the next in the series! Thanks to NetGalley for providing this book!

When nurses Darcy and Pippa start to work for Adrian and Scarlett it seems that something is not quite right. Is Scarlett really as unwell as she seems and can Adrian be trusted? Pippa has her doubts but the truth, when revealed, is even more bizarre than was suspected. I was kept engaged with a well-paced story, a build-up of suspense and unexpected twists. Overall, an entertaining read.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for an arc in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Having enjoyed The Doctor’s Wife audiobook, I was excited to pick up The Perfect Nurse. I expected a fast paced thriller with some dark humor thrown in and well, this was not that.

To say you’ll need to suspend disbelief doesn’t accurately reflect how out there this plot goes. You will be surprised by the twists because they are pulled out of thin air.

It was a fast read so there is a plus for you.

This was such a good book! Fast paced with twists and turns around every corner. Nothing is as it seems. Cant wait to read the next in this series!

The Perfect Nurse by Daniel Hurst is another quick, propulsive page-turner from one of my favourite and never to be missed authors, though I did find this one a little bizarre. While definitely a solid read, this one requires of the reader a healthy suspension of disbelief.

Darcy is a nurse who, for some reason, needs to rely on her co-worker Pippa to pick her up and get her to work every morning. The two are assigned to provide home care for Scarlett, a woman who is suffering cognitive issues after sustaining a fall in her kitchen. Darcy cannot get a read on Scarlett's husband, but something seems to be off. Is he responsible for his wife's accident? And why is he so reluctant to leave Scarlett alone with her nurses?

This novel bears all of Hurst's trademark twists and compulsive readability, though I had a difficult time accepting where it ultimately led.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for an ARC.

I loved this one! It’s a captivating thriller that kept me scratching my head over and over.

Darcy and Pippa are home care nurses charged with the care of Scarlett who has a traumatic brain injury following a fall. Darcy can’t shake the feeling that there’s more to the story and begins to doubt that Scarlett is truly ill. At the same time, Darcy has herself a stalker and even had her home broken into. Her life is in shambles as she struggles with insomnia and panic attacks, but feels strongly that she must protect her patient from whatever is going on.

This is book one of two and I await with bated breath the next installment of this fantastic story. Thank you, NetGalley and Bookouture for the advanced reader copy of this 5-star book.
