In My Vampire Plus-One, Amelia Collins is tired of her family's constant pressure to find a partner so she recruits the enigmatic and handsome vampire, Reginald Cleaves, to pose as her date for a family wedding. Reggie agrees to take the opportunity to escape from the vampire vigilantes who have been searching for him for a century.

I've never read My Roommate is a Vampire but that didn't stop me from reading this book - I love paranormal romcoms and fake dating stories so I couldn't help myself. My Vampire Plus-One definitely felt like an interconnected standalone to My Roommate is a Vampire, but I never felt like I was missing any context or information by not reading the previous book. The connections between characters from book 1 and this one were all explained really well, so it definitely worked as a standalone or as an entry point to the series.

It seems that Reggie is a bit of a fan favourite character from My Roommate is a Vampire but I was coming in blind to this book, so initially I found his behaviour a bit odd but it didn't take me long to warm up to him. I think his POV chapters helped a lot with that, once they kicked in. His Discord chats and bullet journal entries added a lot of humour early on, but when those became less frequent and his POV chapters appeared, I felt like he wasn't just the comic relief but had more about him.

This was a fun and really easy-read book that I binged in one sitting. The characters are unique and a flamboyant vampire and a workaholic accountant make for an interesting couple!

Reggie and Amelia have a chance encounter outside a coffee shop, leading to a quirky exchange of favors between them. Amelia, weary of her family's constant disapproval for her unconventional lifestyle and single status, enlists Reggie's help to pose as her fake date for her cousin's wedding. What begins as a fabricated romance gradually evolves into something real amidst a series of comedic misadventures, including a meet-the-parents scenario and a snowed-in cabin stay where Amelia discovers Reggie's surprising secret: he's a vampire.

The narrative is enriched by Reggie's perspective, conveyed through his bullet journal entries and humorous exchanges via texts and emails with various characters. While the intimate scene is present, some readers might find it incongruent with the light-hearted, comedic tone of the story.

Fans of vampire romance, especially those nostalgic for the Twilight series, will find this book a delightful read.
