I really enjoyed this book. I felt like is was a book about trust which I really loved reading about. The main character were exceptional and I could have stayed with them forever

This is one of those romances that carries you with, through all the plot twists and surprises. You feel invested in the characters' stories. Minnie is a vulnerable but caring young woman whose trust issues have led her to be extremely wary of everybody. She has quite a rich back story which you glimpse as the story develops but the focus is always on Minnie and her hopes and dreams. Jesse proves to have as complicated past life of his own. Neither of them are ready for any new commitments so they start on a series of meetings, vowing to stay as friends. Of course, with the undeniable chemistry, that proves to be difficult.

Both characters have to make sacrifices for people they love. Their creative careers are at times all consuming. You gradually pick up on the similarities in their outlook and upbringing. What you never do is doubt their sincerity. This is a great read which I thoroughly enjoyed. You certainly get to see them at their most vulnerable but also hope that they can edge forward towards taking a leap of faith.

In short: learning to trust and starting over

For two people that do not want to fall in love, they should be able to make it five days, right?

Jesse and Minnie are both going through tough times. Minnie is trying to see if she can get her break in acting but has been derailed by a bad breakup.

Jesse lost his father and then months later, his marriage.

When the two cross paths, Minnie befriends Jesse. Their friendship is strange. They set a meeting spot, but do not exchange last names, numbers, or any details about their lives. It is different, yet somehow works for them to open up to another despite their internal pain. At least it did until Jesse accompanies Minnie to an audition in Paris. A day trip is extended as they visit Jesse's mother in the French countryside. As they spend more time together, the rules about sharing the details of their lives fall to the wayside. Will real life bring them closer of push them apart?

I wasn't sure I was going to be into the book at first. Jesse and Minnie had a strange encounter when they met, but I am so glad I stuck with it. I love the importance of family to both main characters. Zoe Folbigg's writing was so descriptive that I felt like I was on the adventure with them!

I recommend picking up a copy of Five Days to find out!

Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for an early copy of Five Days by Zoe Folbigg.

I can say that Five days has Blow me away with her writing. She draws me in and held my heart in her hands. As I went on the journey with the characters.

I thought They characters was wonderfully written They are now living rent free in my mind.
Which I think will be for a very long time., They are both suffering with personal tragedy. And loss, I felt so captivated by both of them.
And I have found myself in their shoes a few times ,I felt at times she was writing about me and my husband getting together.

I feel like I could sit with Zoe.And chat all day about these characters all day .

I thought that zoe's story telling was perfect, There is sadness. There is also a lot of happiness in this book. And there is so many fun moments as well. Which I very much enjoyed and laughed out loud.. I think so.Many people will relate to this book as it's just being a normal human being going through emotions.

Despite my first impressions of Jesse I really loved him and Minnie. They were wonderful main characters and their story of friends before lovers was a really touching slow burn story. I loved their time in France and felt like I was right there with him. This story was more special than I had expected and I would highly recommend it.

Thanks Netgalley, I really enjoyed this one, I enjoyed how easy the story was and the multiple narrative made it interesting to have different points of view, it did remind me of other stories I've read in the past , but still it worked.

Sometimes you just know that a book is going to stay with you; live on in your mind and after you have finished reading the characters pop into your mind and you smile thinking of them. Two days ago I finished this book by @zoefolbigg and I have been wanting to put my review together to do it justice such was the beauty of this book.

Thank you to @NetGalley and the publisher @theboldbookclub for sending me a copy of ‘Five Days’ and this is a contender for one of my favourite books of all time. I absolutely loved it and now I am going to greedily read everything Zoë has ever written.

Our female lead character is Minnie Byrne. She is nursing a broken heart after being ceremoniously dumped and is undergoing therapy for her heartbreak. Our male lead character is Jesse Lightning who is also suffering from personal tragedy. One day whilst at a coffee shop Jesse loses it. He has a meltdown in public, which makes Minnie approach him and they, led by Minnie’s persuasiveness, make a pact. They will not exchange numbers, they won’t Google each other but they will meet for five platonic “play dates”. They will enjoy the company of a new friend and maybe heal from their respective heartaches.

The story utterly captivated me. Chapters alternate between Minnie and Jesse and we are drip-fed their back stories so we know both characters are damaged. The settings are evocative, from pastis at a Provence bistro, those lavender fields, the hot and sweaty dance moves at Beyoncé bingo to the shining lights of LA. I was glued to this book and urge you, if you want a romance with humour and real emotion which will pull on your heart-strings then this is for you.

Thank you Zoë - I adored it. A definite 5⭐️ read.

Five Days by Zoe Combing is a captivating and creative romance. The two main characters are both dealing with life changing events when they meet and begin their unusual and interesting relationship. It was enjoyable to see how they helped each other grow through grief, pain and fears. Great book! Thanks #NetGalley #BoldwoodBooks

I've read most of this author's books; she always shines for her believable characters and originality. 'Five Days' has both attributes and takes the reader on an emotional and sensory journey as Minnie and Jesse rebuild their lives while getting to know each other. I enjoyed the balance of present and past, the characterisation development, the humour and poignancy and the friendship that lets them heal and find the courage to be themselves. It explores contemporary issues through its characters but is memorable because of its emotion.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher.

Five Days is my favourite to date from Folbigg and I absolutely loved the journey we went on with both Minnie and Jesse. A journey of healing, recovery, making friends, romance and love.

Told across dual timelines and narrated from the perspectives of both Minnie and Jesse, Folbigg delights us with a romantic comedy that has Netflix series writtten all over it!

The story is uplifting, the characters are endearing and so easy to emotionally invest in. AND they had the most adorable meet CUTE moment.

Five Days is a fun and enjoyable read that I wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

In this unique and fun modern romance novel, readers meet Minnie Byrne and Jesse Lightning, two absolute strangers who meet on one of Jesse’s bad days. Minnie, however, sees friend potential in him and proposes fortnightly platonic friend dates (accompanied by a series of rules suggested by her therapist) that Jesse, to his surprise, accepts. Following their friendship over five days and five friend dates, Jesse and Minnie are both controlled by their secrets and their emotional traumas that the other does not know about. Five days of friendship is fine, unless emotions (good and bad) get involved. Both protagonists are complicated and flawed, with their own emotional struggles and hurdles that prevent them from forming relationships with others, and alternating between their two perspectives allows readers to really see where they struggle and what secrets they are keeping. Both characters are clever, kind, and creative, and their interactions and relationship is particularly interesting to follow over the course of this novel. Folbigg has brought them, as well as the backdrops of London and France, to life, as she has created complex and fully developed characters, locations, and backstories that will draw readers into this fascinating novel which mirrors readers’ internal struggles with connection and honesty (with themselves and others).

Two Friends, Five Days, and no chance of a broken heart.....
Jesse and Millie are friends and they agree to go on fortnightly platonic dates. Five day's isn't long enough to fall in love or is it?

I liked The Three Loves of Sebastian Cooper, but this one was emotionally charged as as I couldn’t help but root for Minnie and Jesse as they’re relatable and fleshed out to the point that I started thinking about them as people I met and was telling what happened.
There’s so much tenderness and hope in this story, uplifting and heartwarming. It’s a novel about being brave, risking love, possibly getting hurt again, moving on, and accepting the need to let go of the past
Zoë Folbigg delivers a compelling and engrossing novel, emotionally charged and entertaining. I smiled, I felt for the characters, wanted a HEA for them.
The right novel to read if you need a well written novel that will make you think, have fun, and dream.
Highly recommended.
Many thanks to Boldwood Books and Rachel’s Random Resources for this digital copy, all opinions are mine.

Five Days by Zoe Folbigg

I received an advance review copy for free thanks to Rachel's Random Resources and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Blurb

Reeling from the effects of a very bruised heart, the last thing Jesse wants is a new friend. But Minnie is hard to say no to, and reluctantly Jesse realises that her impetuous playfulness might do him good.

So when Minnie suggests they go on fortnightly platonic dates with no strings, no promises, no expectations beyond good company, Jesse agrees before he has a chance to think too deeply about it.

Two friends.

Five days.

No chance of another broken heart.

Until Jesse reveals a secret that proves Minnie’s heart isn’t as safe as she thought. Thank goodness five days isn’t enough time to fall in love…

My Opinion

It took me a while to get into Five Days but it was actually quite a cute story. There is a lot going on within these pages, so you should expect a fast pace. This was only the second book I have read by Zoe Folbigg, but both have been lovely. If you aren't looking for a standard romance novel, then this one should definitely be on your list.

Minnie and Jesse meet in some unusual circumstances, but I really liked the chance that they took. A great holiday read.

Rating 4/5
