As a perfectionist who has struggled with shame from time to time, I found The Unshaming Way to be a down-to-earth and practical guide. David Bedrick offers compassionate insights into understanding the roots of shame and provides approachable tools for healing. The book felt like a supportive companion, blending wisdom with actionable advice. While it didn’t completely transform my perspective, it certainly gave me a lot to reflect on and integrate into my life.
As a therapist this was a DNF for me, as I felt that this author has no mental health training yet trains therapists???
a really interesting angle that covers many different topics all of which relevant and accurate in my opinion, I enjoyed it
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. There are some great exercises that are clearly marked which are great to help apply the learning to my own experiences and challenge my own shame. It covers a lot of topics relating to shame and is helpful to combat personal experiences of shame and start improving our self-love and self-esteem. The author refers to having personal experience which helps readers feel less alone and the chapters are broken up in an easily digestible way.
What was this book?
What was I supposed to get from reading? No idea - it just felt so waffly.
The writing was incredibly dense, and I didn't feel that there was a particular point to it.
Struggled to get through this book to be honest.

Good book. Lots of information, good exercises, stories, examples, explanations. Useful for the future and one to come back to every once in a while.
David Bedrick tackles a subject here that most of us will have experienced, but have struggled to process.
I like his style of writing....knowledgeable in this field, he brings to us in an easy to follow and understand way, an examination of shame, where it comes from and how to work with it.
Useful for those that work with clients, and for individuals who wish to gain a clear understanding on this subject.
Requested this title initially as a way to demonstrate to colleagues how to use NetGalley - however, I was surprised to find that in fact I found it helpful and enlightening
