When a student named Kiyo gets lost trying to find his way to his university dorm, a house-bound (by choice) fox spirit named Ozaki offers him housing in his mansion in exchange for work. Through their close proximity and Kiyo's innocent curiousity and hardworking nature, the two begin to grow closer and love begins to bloom.

I found this story to be fine if you want something short, cute, and easy to read, but I did have one issue with it. Ozaki, being a long-lived fox spirit, has a past connection with Kiyo's grandfather. But as Ozaki and Kiyo grow closer together, we never hear what it is about Kiyo that is different from his grandfather and what it is that makes Ozaki attracted to him. Especially when it's shown how similar their personalities are, being related and all. In that way, I couldn't fully connect to the characters and root for them.

But the times when Ozaki was being romantic and sort of chasing after Kiyo (and vice versa) or making tiny little confessions were the parts I enjoyed the most. And I really liked the ending when their relationship developed to a point I wasn't expecting to see in such a cute story.

If you like the idea of a short romantic story between a human and a fox spirit living together as they slowly fall in love, try this out!

Nmura does it again. I really enjoy the stories that they’ve been creating.

This is a one-shot but so good. It is set in the early 1900’s. Kiyo is accepted to university but gets lost while trying to find it and stumbles upon Ozaki. Ozaki offers for him to stay at the house. Everything seems normal until Ozaki gets sick and Kiyo realizes Ozaki is a fox spirit.
You know this is a BL so you know they will end up together but before that happens you get to see their relationship grow. You also learn that Ozaki knew Kiyo’s grandfather.

This was a cute one shot story about love and healing.

A wholesome and heartfelt manga about love, loss, and learning once again how to love and how to be loved. The main characters share such a tender relationship and quiet affection. I am forever a fan of reincarnation and generational stories, and this is definitely one that ticks all the boxes. For those who enjoy BL, sweet love stories, and tales filled with yearning.

I love these this kinds of manga, I am always looking for good "Oops I am in some kind of situation--ship" with a spirit/god. I dont know why, its probably the romantasy girly in me.

This story was a very bearable one to read, a little predictable but still cute and light.

It's the second thing I've read by Nmura. The first thing was, it turns out that my online friend is my boss in real life! and it was also a story that I really enjoyed. Both stories invite us to relax and have fun through the characters' stories.

It's nice that it's a one-shot. I also feel that I would have liked to know a little more about both and that certain other things could have been delved into. But it's okay, we left each other wanting and that's good.

This was cute but had very little depth or actual plot line. What we did receive for the plot was half hearted and not well explained. The entire storyline with the grandfather was interesting but there wasn’t enough time to develop it. It was cute but rushed

Thank you net galley for the opportunity to read this manga , this manga was so cute and I loved how they communicated their feeling for each other and finally an age gap that isn’t between a literally teenager and a spirit , I loved the fact that Kiyo was going to university and looking to get a job not like all these other stories where the main character suddenly doesn’t know how to function without the love interest. I hope to see more from them and how their story progresses.

The premise of this manga really drew me in, and I'll admit that it didn't go in the direction I was expecting it to!
I think what really stood out to me was the atmosphere of the setting and time, I loved how it was presented. The characters were well portrayed and the plot wasn't too complex but still had multiple factors to it which made it mysterious and made me curious to see what would happen next. I love that it was surprisingly emotional as well as funny and heartwarming!

this was cute but there was nothing particularly special about it to distinguish it from several other bl manga. there were some adorable moments but a lot of the story fell a little flat for me and i dunno if it might be because a lot was lost in translation or the story itself is like that. it also felt super rushed and not as well developed as I'd like. however, im not opposed to reading other works from this author. ill even be trying my online friend is my real life boss next 🥰

This is such a short and sweet story. set in the taisho period of imperial japan, it's a lovely blend of the historical and the mythological. the budding romance between kiyo and ozaki at the forefront is certainly best described as yearning. the art style is lively and the translation choices felt right for the tone. i appreciate the appendix providing more cultural context and providing a brief explanation of how the chosen era affected kiyo's storyline in particular.

The book was very cute but I felt there was a lot missing. I wish there was more character development here and a bit longer.

The sad immortal longing for his lost love and the puppy dog-like young university student are a cute duo. It’s a single volume story, so the relationship doesn’t get a whole lot of time to develop but I still enjoyed the little bit of conflict that was between them. If you’re looking for a short and sweet (not very spicy) BL manga to read in one sitting I think you’ll enjoy this one.

This was an okay story. I expected a little bit more and the ending was just plain rude. At least throw in some spice. Even with all that it was still kind of cute.

This is a really cute BL Comic that explores the relationship between a fox spirit and a young man who is the grandson of an old friend of the fox spirit. This is a cute (I hate everyone but you) kind of story. Kiyo is a friendly and sunny kind of man that does his best to bring joy to the moody Fox spirit Ozaki.

Does Kiyo bring Ozaki out of his shell? Will Ozaki allow himself to soften his hatred towards humans? Will they admit they have something more than friendship between them? Find out in this volume of The Yearning Fox Lies in Wait!

I definitely recommend giving this a read.

The illustrations were so beautiful and charming that I flipped through, back and forth even after I had finished reading it. The plotline was well written and portrayed in this volume.

Personally, this was one of those stories that just didn't work for me. I didn't believe the romance that was presented or the actions of the characters. It's very cozy but that it in my opinion. I would recommend but look into some reviews first before reading.

It's not my kind of manga, but despite this the story impressed me a lot. The story is interesting, the characters are well characterized and profound moments alternate with more tender moments that keep the attention alive. I hope to read more from this author, it was an interesting discovery.

Very cute love story, but too short.

I would enjoy a longer version of this story. This one is missing some backstory for our Fox; we don't know anything about him, and it seems like neither does our main character.
Each chapter is set in a different year, so their relationship isn't as sudden as it seems, we're just seeing a little fragment of it. And that's okay, it's a one-shot, so we just got the most important moments so we can understand their relationship.
The artwork is beautiful, and I enjoyed looking at it.

I was looking for a light and quick read and this one definitely delivered. What's even better was that this is a standalone manga so I don't have to wait for the next volumes and could enjoy the whole story in one sitting.

<i>The Yearning Fox</i> has a little bit of everything. It has historical fiction, fantasy, romance, funny scenes and heartfelt scenes.

As it is a one-volume manga the story did move fairly quicky but it never felt rushed at all. The pacing was done very well and had a nice flow throughout the story.

If you're looking for a soft atmospheric manga to read in one sitting, then this is perfect for you.
