One impulsive decision changes the lives of two best friends forever in a powerful novel of suspense by the USA Today bestselling author of The Last Caretaker.
If Lark and Mikki didn’t have each other, they’d have nothing in this miserable town. So the best friends stick together, working night shift at the highway travel stop, going nowhere fast. Until a stranger drops in, heading for Florida, and Mikki impulsively leaves with him, never to be seen again.
Eight years later, Lark is finally getting her life back together for the sake of her young daughter and Mikki’s lovably prickly grandma, who can no longer care for herself. People have almost stopped blaming Lark for Mikki’s disappearance, and she’s engaged to the nicest guy on highway patrol. But when the stranger who drove off with Mikki reappears looking for her, nobody knows what to believe.
As the search reignites, Lark fights to find out whether Mikki is really missing or doesn’t want to be found. But piecing together the chain of events set into motion that fateful night could threaten everything—and everyone—Lark has left.

I had not read a book yet by Strawser, so I was unsure of what to expect. The plot was developed well, and I appreciated the friendship between the two characters--Lark and Mikki. I look forward to seeing more written by this author in the future.

Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC. This was was all over the place. In a good way. A twisty thriller that kept me reading until the somewhat bitter end.

This was not the story for me. The writing was fine, but I wasn't being hooked by the story. I may try again in the future.

Really enjoyed this story of a girl impulsively getting in a car with a stranger and road-tripping to a wedding . I thought the friendship developed wonderfully . The back and forth of the past to present was well done comparing her disappearance and search for her to what actually happened. And the reason as it unfolded was ok but I found not fully explained.

This story started off so good, but half way through it started to slow down, in the end it was a struggle to read unfortunately!!

Catch You Later by Jessica Strawser is an engaging novel with well-drawn characters and an emotional core. The story explores relationships, regrets, and second chances in a way that feels real and relatable. While the writing is strong, the pacing slows in parts, and some plot points feel predictable. Still, the heartfelt moments and thoughtful themes make it a worthwhile read. A solid 3.5 stars—touching, well-written, but not entirely Hook me in

A slow revealing of a disappearance. The friendship between the girls adds depth to the story and really makes you want to find out what happened to her!

Catch You Later by Jessica Strawser is a gripping and emotionally charged novel that explores the complexities of friendship, loss, and the haunting question of what happens when someone disappears. The story follows Lark, who has spent eight years grappling with the sudden disappearance of her best friend, Mikki, who left one night with a stranger and was never seen again. Lark is left to pick up the pieces of her life while still haunted by Mikki’s absence. When the stranger reappears years later, the truth about what happened to Mikki comes crashing back, forcing Lark to confront long-buried secrets.
Strawser crafts a compelling narrative that weaves suspense and emotional depth, keeping readers on edge as Lark pieces together the mystery of Mikki's disappearance. The novel is a perfect blend of psychological tension and heartfelt moments, particularly as Lark struggles with her own personal life and the complexities of her relationships. The pacing is well-done, with the suspense building steadily, and the characters are richly developed, making it easy for readers to empathize with Lark's turmoil.
This book will resonate with fans of suspenseful, character-driven stories, as it not only keeps you guessing but also dives deep into themes of guilt, friendship, and the fear of losing the people we care about most. Catch You Later is a gripping read that will keep you hooked until the very last page.

I had a good time! I really enjoyed the dual POV and alternate timelines as it really added to the mystery.
I found some parts quite slow moving but couldn’t wait to see how the mystery unraveled so I persevered and I’m glad I did.
I kind of expected the end with the “who done it?” And was also slightly disappointed to find Mikki alive, I think I would have rated the book more highly if she hadn’t been.

I though this was a pretty average thriller. It caught my attention in the beginning, lost it some in the middle, and then ended strong-ish. The characters were okay, if a bit flat, and I felt like the story could have been trimmed a bit. It kept me guessing about where it was going at least.
I read an ARC of this book from NetGalley. All comments are my own.

Mikki and Lark are two best friends who work the overnight shift at a Travel Stop in small-town Ohio. They both feel stuck, but Lark is pregnant and needs to stay. When a stranger blows through town and asks Mikki to attend a beach wedding with him for the weekend, Mikki goes. But she never returns, and no one knows what happened to her. Eight years later, that same stranger returns looking for Mikki, and it reopens the investigation into what happened to her.
Strawser is a master at weaving a gripping tale. This is a dual timeline: Lark, now, and Mikki, then. This slowly weaves Mikki's story through the lens of Lark's investigation, and I could not wait to see how it resolved. The ending was a little unbelievable, but I bought it. I will continue to read whatever Strawser writes.

Wow, this was a fun twisty-turny read! I did not see that last twist coming, and that's my favorite! This was my 1st book by Jessica Strawser but it will not be my last. I am adding all of their books to my TBR!

Review of Catch You Later by Jessica Strawser – 3 Stars
I finished Catch You Later by Jessica Strawser, and I’m honestly feeling a little torn. The premise had so much potential, and there were definitely moments I found myself engaged, but overall, I can’t say it fully lived up to my expectations.
I didn’t hate it, but I also didn’t love it as much as I hoped. It’s an okay read if you're looking for something light and introspective, but it doesn’t quite stand out in the genre for me. Would I recommend it? Sure, but with a little hesitation. If you’re a fan of character-driven stories and don’t mind some predictability, you’ll likely enjoy it. For me, though, it’s more of a 3-star experience than a 4.

*Catch You Later* by Jessica Strawser feels a bit *mid*—it's a solid read but doesn't quite stand out in the crowded field of contemporary fiction. The characters are relatable, and the exploration of friendship and life choices has moments of emotional depth, but the plot can feel predictable, and the pacing lacks some urgency. While it’s an enjoyable enough read, it doesn't leave a lasting impact.

While this is a slow psychological thriller, it is also a quick read. The twists were a little predictable, but were well thought out. It felt different that current thriller, which was a nice change. I look forward to reading more from Jessica Strawser.
Thank you to NetGalley, and Lake Union Publishing for an ARC of this book.

This was a slow burn thriller that was so slow it fizzled out. I made it to the end but then was disappointed I did. The twist at the end was a dud and a bit of an eye roller. I just couldn’t wrap my head around some of the actions by the characters. Ultimately this one was not for me.

This one grabbed me from the start and never let up. I absolutely love the cover. Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book
