This book is definitely a very slow burn read, it takes a while before it picks up. The plot was definitely interesting and what kept me hooked and kept me reading until the end.

Slow to start but picked up midway through and ended decently. I almost didn’t finish but happy I did.

Enjoyed reading this book. Found it quite slow to begin with but it did move faster in the second half! Worth a read.

This was a bit of a slow burn for me, but the plot, although different from what I expected from the description, kept me intrigued enough until the end. Malcom Todd was quite disturbing as the main character and just plain creeped me out. The ending could have had a little more excitement to it, but did surprise me with a twist I didn’t see coming.
Overall, I would recommend this to anyone looking for a quick read with a bit of mystery and suspense in it.

Thank you to NetGalley and Inkubator books for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

I enjoyed the book, i had to know what happened. The ending fell flat for me. I would recommend it to my friends though for a quick read.

This book took a quite a while to really take off and become interesting. I nearly stopped reading it, twice, because I kept losing interest and so much of the beginning felt repetitive that I felt as if I was reading the same chapter over and over. Things didn't start getting interesting until a bit past the halfway mark and, by that point, I didn't really care very much any more. That's disappointing because the description of this book made it sound very interesting and I really wanted to like it.
Thank you, NetGalley, for the chance to read this ARC.

A bit of a slow start and not exactly what I expected from the description, but the wait is worth it. Malcolm starts out as a bit odd and misunderstood, then the heat and the stress start peeling off those layers and we find out what he's really been up to.

I have enjoyed the other books I have read by Iain Maitland so I was excited for this one and it had me gripped throughout.

First book by this author I've read.
Decent storyline with characters that were easy to relate to.
Perhaps a classic case of things are not always what they appear to be.
In some respects I found some of the latter parts of the book a little far fetched at times, but nonetheless an enjoyable enough read as well as being an easy read. A solid three stars.

The beginning of this was pretty slow for me, it took a while before I thought the story ramped up and got interesting. As the story progresses it gets more intense, and it got harder to put down. I enjoyed the impending doom of Malcolm's actions as we reached the end of the book. To get a glimpse of what lies inside Malcolm's mind is quite disturbing. Overall, it was not a bad story, and I would recommend to other readers.

This was a quick, creepy read. The pages were definitely turning fast. There was a bit of repetition as Malcolm goes deeper into his mental illness, I did love that it was told from the protagonist's first-person narrative, including diary entries to supplement the story. It is set in England so I had to tweak my brain to hook up to what they were referencing and some of the language. Overall, it was believable and well-written. The ending twist was the chef's kiss!

This book has two narratives Malcom’s diary leading to his demise and his obsession for finding out what his son is up to. Is he peeping in windows again? This book gives you the feeling of being inside a mentally disturbed individual’s mind. It’s absolutely thrilling.

A fast-paced novel with unexpected plot twists. Enjoyed the quick shifts between the present time and the diary POV of past happenings. Easily binge-read this, all in one sitting!

This was my first read by this author. This one is a good thriller. Kept you wanting to read more, personally I think it could have had more to it. It was very similar to many other thriller books.

What a wild ride this was! The author did a great job making you think one thing, only to realize things are not at all as they seem! I enjoyed this and read it all within a day! Malcom’s character was so interesting. I enjoyed the journal parts and what it added to the story but it seemed a bit unrealistic. I liked the ending, however, I was just hoping for a little more closure. Overall, I really enjoyed this book being that it was my first read from this author. I will definitely be reading more!

Thank you to NetGalley, Inkubator books and author Iain Maitland for the ARC and the opportunity to review this book.

This was the first book I have read by this author but it certainly won’t be the last. I absolutely loved the way the storyline was set up and following along with the main characters diary. It was a refreshing change to see a book set out like this.

There were a few times when I felt my mouth literally stuck open after reading the next twist and going deeper and deeper into the mind of a very twisted man. This was a fast paced page turner that I didn’t want to put down.

The in depth descriptions and narratives were very well done. The plot was quite realistic in a sense that I could totally see this happening in real life.

I loved the ending! I totally thought it would end a different way but the author threw one last twist in right at the end.

4.5 stars in my opinion ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5

Highly recommend and will absolutely be reading more from this author.

Malcolm Todd appears to be an average man who lives in a quiet bungalow with his adult son on a quiet street. But Malcolm is looking for love and hiding deadly secrets. There was the young woman at work, but that didn't work out, and the woman at the deli, but that ended badly. Now he's met Josie, and he's sure they can be together he just has to show her how good he is for her and get her to stop asking questions he isn't able to answer.

This starts off calm. Malcolm seems like a normal man who's recently lost his job as a tax inspector who's been given the job of keeping a diary by his GP to help his mental health. Slowly, this novel begins to get creepier, and i started to feel unsettled as Malcolm replays his life. This took turns I was not expecting and kept giving me a very bad feeling. This was gripping and I found myself reading this very quickly. Highly recommend.

The novel is presented inside the head of the protagonist, seeing life from his unique and quirky point of view. As the story unfolds, more is revealed about his dark desires, his selfish assumptions, and his low view of humanity. What horrors he has done? What will he do next. How far will he go? He’s always calculating to his best advantage. It reads very easily, with deceptively simple language, making this a thrilling read from page one. It’s humorous and horrific in equal measure. I enjoyed it and felt compelled to keep reading to find out what happens. Definitely a page turner.
Thanks to NetGalley for providing an ARC copy of the book for review.

What lies inside is a very thrilling read with a lot of twists and turns. You may think you have an idea of what is going on, but layers are peeled back and you just get hit with so many twists!

I finished this in one go, I could not put the book down!
