D Jordan Redhawk writes excellent books and this is no exception. She has created a brilliant character in Z, the bounty hunter and I really hope there is a follow up to this. Simone is drifting through America in her motorhome looking for the place she believes exists for people with powers like she has. Z is a Variant but has made a life capturing law breakers, while searching for the woman she holds responsible for killing her mother.
Simone and Z meet up in a clever way and decide to work together. There is a huge cast of characters and the key scenes are breath taking ~ almost literally. They are fast paced and you are rushing through while trying to create pictures in your head. It’s like watching a Mission Impossible film.
The ending is well plotted and satisfying and fits the characters we have grown close to. Even Chester the dog is endearing. It would be fun to follow these two through further adventures. Especially with their Variant skills.

Superpowers and a quest for the promised land
Drifter Simone Lang and Bounty hunter Z Boukhari come together in a fiery clash when a bounty hunt goes very wrong. I loved to see those very different characters, shy and extrovert, come together. I loved how Redhawk had the retreat of Simone into nature come to life and of course I loved the cute doggie!
The story that unfolds is a quest for the promise land where variants, people with superpowers like Simone and Z, can come to rest. The posse of friends who come to help is fascinating in itself and the story picks up a lot of speed once the quest begins. Lets just say that there is a lot of action coming up and unexpected twists surprise the reader.
If you like a dystopian tale with a lot of superpowers you might want to try Chained Destinies.
I received an ARC from Bella Books via netgalley. The review is left voluntarily.
A well written superhero story but very unique in its own way. There are some surprises as well as twist and turn I enjoyed reading this one.
Thank You Bella Books and NetGalley.
Sort of superhero story but they're called Variants. Simone is trying to find a place called Refuge, that she heard about when she was young from a woman named Celeste. Z is trying to find the woman she blames for her mother's death. This is the story of how they try to achieve their goals. I think the book is well written and interesting enough to keep my attention.
