This book was really beautiful to read and I found myself just wanting to take a nice autumn walk in some cool weather. I really used to enjoy making mixed tapes so this book really makes me feel good with all of the memories that it brought up. The nostalgia truly made this book feel like I was being given a nice warm comforting hug.

Thank you so much to NetGalley and Jennifer Whiteford for this arc in exchange for my honest review.

Loved the cover art and the coffee shop background a lot! I got the advanced reading copy but life got busy and didn’t get to it before it released so I actually ended up listening to the audio and I loved the little musical tunes it had a few times through the book! So a plus side for being behind on my reading I wouldn’t have known about if I had read instead of mostly listened. Really liked Ryan’s character. Allie’s avoidance and just running away from conflict was a little bother some for me personally but I liked their chemistry. Loved listening about the coffee shop environment and so happy that in the end when Allie didn’t end up taking it over it went to the best character possible to love in as a friendly family like environment for all. Great cozy Musial read that I will suggestion to all my rom com loving friends. Thank you to netgalley and publishers for the early read in turn for my honest opinion.

"Make Me a Mixtape" was a cute rom-com about life after teen stardom. for Allie Andrews. It was a heartfelt story about second chances and Plan Bs in life.

There was also the added fun of 80s music listed throughout that showed readers Allie rediscovering her passion for music. I was really rooting for the love story of Allie and Ryan and I know many other readers will too.

Thank you to NetGalley and Doubleday Canada for gifting me this ARC. I enjoyed it.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing this book in exchange for my honest review.

I enjoyed this delightful book, and I would best describe this book as nostalgic. I loved the chemistry in this book and if anything this book just made me feel good and put a smile on my face.

I’m not as knowledgeable about the music discussed in this book as many others of my age. This is a significant drawback when it comes to appreciating the book.

Allie was once part of a band that was on the rise. This part of her life was behind her until a man in a podcast company recognises her. He was a fan and the excitement he still carries is part of why Allie’s life is about to change. She has been hiding in a routine for a long time, but change is in the future.

There are some predictable issues that get resolved in the book but the highlight is the general friendship that ties everyone together. The balance between the various characters is different, but they come across as a vibrant and entertaining crowd. It does come with a happily-ever-after epilogue which works well with the entire plot.

I felt like the book could have been a little shorter, and as mentioned earlier, the number of songs mentioned would have had more of an impact if I knew them. I could still Google them as I read but that would have dragged the book too long

I would recommend this book to fans of the romance genre.

I received an ARC thanks to Netgalley and the publishers but the review is entirely based on my own reading experience.

A fun read. Allie is not usually recognised from her days in a former band, but then she meets Ryan. They become friends but will it lead to more? A great collection of side characters too.

This pulled at my heartstrings in all the best ways and I loved it so much! Such a great book if you’re into music and romance.

I really liked this cute musical romcom. I thought it was really fun and enjoyed the relationship between Allie and Ryan. They were great together and loved that he was a fan of her music. Who hasn’t wanted to meet their idol and get in a relationship with them. There was also such good banter and tension and pining. They worked well together as friends and eventually lovers.

Overall, this was a cute romcom that I recommend!

3⭐️ - I really wanted to love this book. The idea was brilliant and the storyline was super unique, however everything felt very choppy and disconnected.

Now, I did receive an ARC so I’m not sure it is the final edition that was published as all the formatting was wild, but what troubled me the most seemed to be that story lines would happen twice?? For example there seemed to be 2 different scenes where she told Ryan about her parents? It really didn’t make sense.

I was also really not fond of the timeline, it did t feel smooth and I felt like we were constantly time jumping from one month to the next with no flow at all.

The way Allie also told her aunt she would take the cafe and then backed out was awful. She is still extremely immature and she kinda treats people awful in the process of her own self sabotage.

Once again plot and idea weren’t bad, I also LOVEDDDDD REN!! But Allie was insufferable.

Cute cover, cute story. Great representation. Enjoyed the feel of the book, the autumn vibes. The 80’s music references, the friends and found family parts of the book. Would have liked a bit more chemistry between Allie and Ryan. They were a cute couple but could have been so much more. Looking forward to the authors next book. Thanks netgalley and the publisher.

I really enjoyed this cute romance with a twist of 90’s punk music thrown in! Well rounded and well paced, it was just a delight to read!

This was a fun, easy read. The fmc Allie had a 90s punk rock vibe. I read this during the fall and it was the perfect romance for my mood. Ryan wasn't my favorite MC, but he was so sweet at trying to get Allie to reconnect with old friends. Sometimes we need loved ones to give us a good push.

I just wanted a bit more of a romantic story, or more chemistry between the characters. It missed the mark a bit for me.

✨ Golden Retriever / Alley Cat
✨ Barista / Dj
✨ He falls first
✨ Found family
✨ Rockstar / Fan

This was a charmingly cozy read, read in one sitting, and I adored it. It is a quick one, so I don't really want to spoil anything past the synopsis given by the author, but if you like the trope "found family" especially, this one is for you. I loved the supporting characters, I loved the representation, and I think this was a delightful book. Thank you to NetGalley and Penguin for letting me read this one early. (sorry the review is a few weeks late 😅)

This was a fun quick read with a musical theme thrown in. I enjoyed it. I liked how it felt like a small town romance even though it was set in Brooklyn. I give it 3.5 stars!!

Man, this book was awesome! A romance filled with fun music references - what's not to love?! 4 stars!

A fun romantic story woven together with music. I love when it’s not just a straight up romance, and there is the fun musical theme going on here too.

I loved the music references but had a hard time getting into the book. It felt drawn out in some parts and the characters didn’t feel well developed. I wasn’t invested in Allie and Ryan’s romance as it needed more tension for a slow burn. After their first interaction with each other I didn’t feel a connection between them or understand out of the initial meet what made them continue.

A book full of music references?! I. Am. HERE. FOR. IT!

I loved the premise for this story, it felt cozy and nostalgic.

It's set in Brooklyn/NY (which I love) but still manages to have small-town vibes thanks to the cast and the cafe setting.

However, the characters felt a little flat in places...

Overall though, it was a fun and a solid 3 star GOOD read.

This is such a cute and heartwarming book. The found family trope really resonates with me. It's one of my favourite things to see when people make their own family and surround themselves with love. It was done really well in this book. And of course, the romance was great! I was really shipping them almost immediately but loved the slow burn of it all so much!!
