Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me a copy. All opinions are my own.
This is a really sweet story on the surface level, but as I continued reading I realized both of our characters have some trauma they need to work through. Though it’s very vague and not addressed directly, you can tell there’s something both of them have gone through that really impacted how they perceive love.
Hananoi is sweet, but does some alarming things that makes me want to yell at Hotaru through the screen to run away with haste!! Yet, I can’t help but root for him. Poor kid just wants to be loved.
Hotaru is so warm hearted. She’s very avoidant due to an incident in her past, but is so sweet to her family and peers. She means well, but I also want to scream at her sometimes (out of love). Poor girl doesn’t know she deserves the world!
It’s so heartwarming watching Hotaru and Hananoi trying to understand each other while also realizing their own needs and desires. I think both of them, especially Hananoi is going to have a great character arc as the series progresses.
Overall enjoyed reading this and it gets bonus points from me because I just love when the ML falls for the FL first. I’ve started the anime as well! I plan on reading the next volumes available. I’m invested in Hananoi and Hotaru’s love story and so excited to see what’s in store for them.

I read this a while ago before downloading it here. I liked it so much I had to get the rest of the series to find out what happens. Sweet story about these two. It is definitely worth reading the whole series just to follow this charming couple. Thanks for the sweet story.

This was cute. Thank you NetGalley. I think I’ve found a new manga to read. At first I thought the main characters were normal but as I was reading I discovered that both of them are special. This is a story of exploring relationships and love for the first time and finding that it is worth the effort.

*A Condition Called Love 1* is the first volume in a charming manga series by Megumi Morino that explores the nuances of love and relationships. The story centers around Hotaru, a high school girl who has never been interested in romance, until she unexpectedly finds herself drawn to her aloof classmate, Hananoi. The manga beautifully captures the complexities of first love, with a narrative that balances lighthearted moments with deeper emotional undercurrents. The characters are well-developed, and Morino’s delicate artwork enhances the tender and sometimes awkward emotions of young love. This volume sets the stage for what promises to be a heartfelt and compelling series, perfect for fans of romance manga.

A small gesture can mean the world to some people. Hotaru is walking home one day when she sees classmate Hananoi-kun sitting in the snow after a messy breakup. Her small gesture of offering to share her umbrella changes her world forever.

This adorable, YA manga is a quick, sweet read perfect for budding romance lovers. Its overall message tells readers the importance of being kind and how small gestures have big effects.

The art style is literally the cutest thing! This is stinking adorable. Getting slight yandere vibes from him, which is a bit concerning, but I do have to say how cute this is else wise. I'm going to live vivaciously through them as I binge the next volumes.

Hotaru is a sixteen year old girl who’s always been obsessed with love. When she sees a classmate in the snow after a messy breakup, she offers her umbrella seeing nothing of it. Once he asks her out in the middle of class the next day, she knows her life is going to change.
This was a cute manga! I’m sure the next installments will be just as cute as this one.
Thank you to Netgalley for an eARC of this book.

My first experience with genre, Manga, so allow me grace in my review.

This book gave a bit of a creep vibe...

Hotaru, the main female character was extremely innocent in the ways of relationships and being a girlfriend, and Hananoi was too intense to be her love interest. Though he did seem to give way to her innocence and support her where she was, letting her know that she did not need to change for him. Their dynamic was just sending creep vibes throughout the read for me. I did find it interesting that Hotaru was in a sense healing Hananoi of is insecurities with her love all while trying to figure out for herself what love truly was and if she truly understood it.

The illustrations were nice. I just can't get over Hananoi...Eww! He basically abused her emotionally to make Hotaru be with him.

I did not want this wholesome romance to end! A Condition Called Love 1 by Megumi Morino captivated me from the very first page. This manga delivers an endearing and heartwarming story that left me eagerly anticipating the next volume.

The story revolves around Hotaru, a high school girl who has never been interested in love, and Hananoi, her charming and slightly mysterious classmate. Their relationship begins with an unexpected confession from Hananoi, setting the stage for a romance that is both sweet and tender.

Hotaru's character is relatable and refreshing, bringing a sense of realism to her journey of discovering love. Hananoi, the love interest, is simply adorable. His sincerity and determination to win Hotaru's heart make him a standout character. The dynamic between the two is beautifully developed, filled with genuine moments that make their blossoming relationship feel authentic and pure.

Megumi Morino's artwork is stunning, with expressive character designs and detailed backgrounds that enhance the emotional depth of the story. Each panel is crafted with care, capturing the subtleties of the characters' emotions and interactions. The visual storytelling complements the narrative perfectly, making the reading experience all the more immersive.

What I particularly enjoyed about A Condition Called Love 1 is its ability to balance lighthearted moments with more profound themes. It explores the complexities of young love, self-discovery, and the courage it takes to open one's heart to another. The pacing is just right, allowing the relationship to develop naturally without feeling rushed.

This manga is a delightful read for anyone who enjoys wholesome romance with well-rounded characters and a charming plot. The first volume sets a strong foundation for what promises to be an engaging and heartfelt series. I will absolutely be continuing on with this series and can't wait to see how Hotaru and Hananoi's relationship evolves. If you're a fan of sweet, sincere romance stories, A Condition Called Love is definitely worth picking up.

A Condition Called Love is a teen romance manga that's also been adapted into a show. I found myself interested to see how the story would play out, but mainly because the male main character exhibited some concerning behaviors and the female protagonists seemed completely oblivious to them, so I wasn't sure how it would turn out or what kind of story this would be (a cute romance or . . . a stalker thriller, as it tended to feel like at some points in my opinion). On one hand, the story can be read as a cute story of a girl with no romance/relationship experience who shares her love between all her family and friends versus a guy who saves his love for only that special someone. I expect Hananoi to grow out of his possessive and insecure characteristics as the story continues, but as volume one stands, he was just too possessive of Hotaru, too set on this idea of loving only one person (a "soulmate") and nobody else, not even having friends. This story has potential, but the male love interest's possessive characteristics were a little too off-putting to make this manga fully enjoyable.

This was a cute manga, and I loved the main couple. Hananoi-kun was such a thoughtful and adorable boyfriend. He never pressured Hotaru and always remembered the things she likes. Plus, even though he goes overboard in his declarations of love, he’s always happy with her small and simple caring gestures. I’d definitely continue with the manga to see how their relationship progresses. I felt like the side characters didn’t really have too big of a part to play in the story, but I’m sure we’ll see more of them in future volumes.

I love the art style!

The romance on his part was rather instantaneous and felt a little fast-paced, but I understand that his love for her was based on an action that meant a lot to him.

I also find the FMC somewhat relatable. Love can appear complex and foreign, and her views on it is similar to mine in this volume. Would I be able to experience such feelings like my family, friends, or couples I walk pass all the time? Her thought on it resonated with me and that's one thing about a story that captivates me, which is when it reaches deeper than the surface of emotions.

I wanted to read this manga because I'd heard the female protagonist is acespec. I loved reading an aromantic character, and getting to see how she experiences the world, and the disconnect and inadequacy she feels.

On the other hand, I didn't enjoy the male lead. I think it's interesting to read a dynamic in which the characters are so different, but he seems dangerous to me, and not in a good way. Still, I think they compensate each other and they can teach each other valuable lessons, like self-love.

This manga is so adorable!

Teenage love and slice to life between a boy and a girl who dosen't really know anything about love, romance, dating or such. But together they explore the closeness and how a relationship can start and together they will bloom.

Thank you NetGalley!

Absolutely lovely. A brilliant addition to the romance manga genre.

I had so many swoony moments and little giggles. Our male lead is just everything I love. Someone who is restraining his deepest desires to patiently wait for his woman.

I have no criticisms! Fans of Shojo need to read this.

So I read this manga although there are some very divided reviews. I usually steer clear of these but I wanted to see myself what was going on. Curiosity got the best of me and honestly, I enjoyed reading this volume.

Firstly, the main characters have some unusual personalities. Hotaru is a character who is sweet and kind, but also isn’t particularly expressive about anything. For example, Hotaru’s reaction after knowing her friend has a boyfriend was neither happy, sad or mad. Hotaru seems to be passive, which makes her almost look uncaring or inconsiderate. It’s not until she’s dating Hananoi that we see more of her personality.

Hananoi is what can be considered creepy because he’s overly dedicated. He has a nice personality but in relationships he seems obsessive. That’s particularly because he’s a rich kid, living alone in a big house and so he wants someone to stay with him. It’s a typical character background that’s easily understandable. This story isn’t told from Hananoi’s viewpoint in volume one, so it’s hard to sometimes understand where he’s coming from.

Personally, I feel like these two characters can help each other balance out while also learning from each other. Both of these characters are flawed, one more evident than the other. They have their own past circumstances which have led them to become the way they are now. Unfortunately the manga doesn’t do justice to their pasts because it’s mainly hinted at or told in a summarized format. As a reader, we can only assume the impact it has but not fully understand it. I hope the future volumes can do more justice.

The story itself is predominantly focused on their relationship and the theme of love. I enjoyed how the story focuses on multiple aspects in a relationship such as, staying true to yourself, communicating, and enjoying the simple moments. It’s fast paced which makes the story progress faster but also removes the need for many side characters and potential sub plots.

The artwork is reminiscent of the cover. It’s simple without many detailed sceneries or iconography throughout. It has a soft and gentle touch to it, giving it that overall shoujo feel. The artwork also uses a lot of shading and the panels focus on the characters.

Overall, I enjoyed reading this volume. I’m looking forward to reading the next volume because I don’t want them to separate. If you’re looking to give this a chance, then read it without evaluating each character’s personality and action too harshly. The story is relaying the feeling of love in its many forms and stages; sometimes extreme, sometimes unknown and sometimes balanced.

There’s a fine line between romance and psychological thriller. And I really don’t know where this series is going to land.

Okay, so it’s not REALLY a horror…unless you were in this situation. Hotaru has never been interested in romance, so when she starts dating stunning Hananoi, his immediate obsession is confusing to her, and TERRIFYING to me. Like, there’s this moment where she goes to his house and wants to look at a spot on his bookshelves hidden behind a sheet, and he jokes (???) that it’s his shrine…to her. And, uh…we never find out if that’s true or not. Or, if it’s true, what that shrine contains. Like, a ticket stub or receipt from their first date? Cute. Used napkins or hair? Run.

Now, Hananoi does seem to refine his approach a bit, after this. The ending quarter of the book is actually quite sweet, right in line with a romance manga. Pretty lights, cute outing, genuine care. That’s what is going to keep me on this series.

I got the first volume from the publisher, for review, but the next 12 volumes were included in a recent Humble Bundle, so I will get to see how this all goes down. But, man…I hope Hananoi gets some chill.
