Hotaru is a 16-year-old girl who doesn’t know what love is, and believes she’s not made for falling in love with someone. Hananoi falls in love with Hotaru in an instant and does everything to make her feel the same way. When they decide to go out, to see if they would work out as a couple, is his opportunity to make her fall in love with him. Also, is her chance to know what love is.

Opinion:

The character of Hananoi took me by surprise with his insistence and initiative. At the beginning, he gave so many vibes of the main lead girl in Itazura na Kiss, but them his insistence slow down a little. Moreover, Hananoi helps Hotaru a lot from giving her notes to ace her test to buying her favorite food. One of the things that scared me a little was when he try to change himself for her. However, she doesn’t let him, and in that scene, we also see that he didn’t want to change either.

I like that Hotaru never changed herself and didn’t feel pressure to feel something for Hananoi. She accepted going out with him, as a trial, but that didn’t change what she feels for him. Moreover, she doesn’t realize she is falling in love with Hananoi, but the readers can see it. For example, you can see her feelings every time she wanted to do something nice for him or when she was worried, he would get sick. In her own way, she had been doing girlfriend things without realizing it. Part of her obliviousness was because she was constantly comparing her relationship to others. That is why it is important to highlight that all relationships are different, and what works for one couple doesn’t necessarily work for another.

A Condition Called Love is a beautiful manga that invites us to explore first love through the eyes of a teenager. It takes us in a journey to discover what love is and how does it feel to be someone’s special person. Also, it reminds us that we don’t have to change ourselves to be loved, and that love is not forced.

A Condition Called Love, is about a young 16 year old girl named Hotaru, who has never experienced any romantic feelings towards another person before. A snowy day and an umbrella leads her to Hananoi, a boy from her school that takes a liking to Hotaru, and ask her out in front of her entire class. There are things I liked and disliked about this first volume. The art style is very cute though I do have a problem with the way Hananoi's nose is drawn when he's facing towards us. I also appreciate the dichotomy between the two leads. He's complete intense, and sometimes he takes it overboard, and she's just trying to figure out how to be a good partner in general. Another issue I have with the story is that the male lead is very pushy, and it comes off as creepy sometimes. Currently rooting against them ending up together but we shall see.

Overall this was very cute. The art style was really nice and the pacing of the plot was consistent. There were a couple of moments with the MMC where it was giving major red flags but later on in the novel he made a point to ask for her consent going forward before touching her so maybe it’s just a one off thing? I really liked the FMC so think I’m going to see how the story develops in Vol 2 and hopefully get some backstory on why the characters have the personality’s they do.

Sadly I don't think this manga was for me. Its definitely really cute and is a solid idea I just didn't care for it. Its a classic romantic comedy story and characters were really good I just found this story to be a bit boring. I've seen this exact thing done over and over again and when nothing is added to the story it just sort of falls flat for me.

This is the book one of the series thus I was excited to see the background of the characters and scenarios of the book. Both were well drafted by the author and the illustrator. The illustrations 🤌 are so beautiful, it simply enhances the experience of reading this manga.

This is surprisingly.... adorable?! 🥰 I have heard of this manga before but I don't know much about it apart from the fact that it's a school romance. I also learned that this manga has mixed reviews, so I decided to put it aside. Since it has been recently adapted to an anime, I became interested to read it again.

𝘈 𝘊𝘰𝘯𝘥𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘰𝘧 𝘓𝘰𝘷𝘦 is a shoujo manga about Hotaru Hinase, a girl who has lived her life never fully comprehending human emotions— most especially romance. Upon witnessing a boy from her school named Saki Hananoi get dumped by his girlfriend, she began to wonder if she is capable of experiencing romantic love as well. After a series of events, the two eventually found themselves in an arrangement, a "trial run" relationship, in their pursuit of understanding love.

This is a really promising premise for a romance comedy manga. Hinase is a very relatable and admirable main character. She struggles with understanding other people and she doesn't pick up on certain social context very well. Despite this, she is self-aware of her shortcomings and she is determined to learn about love. While I absolutely adored Hinase, I initially felt indifferent toward Hananoi. He's a popular, good-looking guy at school and he's also.... a lot sometimes. Even though he's been in a relationship before, Hananoi doesn't get love as well. The way he express his affection can be extreme and it even comes at the expense of his own well-being at times. This might turn off other readers but the way I see it, he does not have any intention to cause harm. His eccentric behavior is simply due to the fact that he has a distorted view about love and how to show it. These two characters are both flawed and they are both trying to understand what love truly is and why it comes so easily to everyone else.

Overall, I think this first volume is a solid exposition to this manga series. My only complain with it was the pacing. There's so much that happened in the first chapter and the pacing was too quick. It doesn't leave enough room for the story to breathe. Aside from the first chapter, the pacing in the succeeding chapters was also disjointed. It's disorienting and it takes me away from the story. Nevertheless, I am interested to see what happens next and I plan on continuing with this series. 💕 Thank you so much NetGalley for this eARC!!

I like it so far! The premise is interesting and the art is gorgeous. While Hananoi has unhealthy ideas about love, the mangaka's not presenting his attitude as something to aspire to. I'm curious to see how the story will address that later on. One of my favorite scenes in this volume is of Hotaru trying to outdo Hananoi by showing up before him. It cracks me up.

I absolutely loved reading this manga. Really dives deep into the first relationship/first love trope. I can't wait to see the relationship blossom even more in volume 2!

This is so cute! I love male leads like this (earnest and cute even if they're holding back how down bad they are) and the art is SO PRETTY I had a good time reading this! I'm glad Kodansha put it out on NetGalley even though it came out last year because that means I can go read other volumes quickly! Yes!

I really enjoyed this manga. I thought the premise was interesting but wasn't sure if the execution would be something I like and I'm really glad I gave it a chance. It was super cute and I do plan on watching out for volume 2 in English.

The main character has never felt anything other than platonic love and doesn't know if she's able to, she's worried it will ruin her other relationships and doesn't understand how it works. I feel like saying the female main character is demisexual is a pretty easy assumption.

Overall, I enjoyed A Condition Called Love, vol 1. I found this manga to be intriguing and cute, while also slightly concerning? There's just something a bit controlling and dark about the male lead, but hopefully he's just being a bit dramatic. So far, I can definitely see some hints at some upsetting past experiences the characters have experienced, and I'm enjoying seeing their personalities develop as well as their relationship. I will definitely continue this series.

I thought this was going to be a cute high school romance, but I was mistaken. The story was really face-paced -> the mmc was dumped by his ex one day and fell in love with the fmc after school because she put her umbrella over him?? He was really intense with everything he was doing to make her happy and smile. I thought he was weird. I guess he just wants to love and to be loved. The fmc also doesn't know anything about love which made the pairing even weirder. Not sure if I will continue onto the next volume. I enjoyed the art style though!

I'm not sure why, but I've had this on my TBR (and to be watched) for a few months now. I guess I heard from somewhere that this shoujo manga was all the things it should be: sweet, harmless, and heart-warming. This is none of those things.

The main character, Hotaru is sweet enough, but paired with the main love interest, Hananoi, this shoujo should be called "A Condition Called Jail Time."

There is such a large divide between the two characters' social statuses, outlooks on life and love, and experience levels that his obsessive interest with her does not correlate with any of their interactions. He is persistent to the point of stalking her, taking advantage of her skepticism on love to try to persuade her to fall in love with him (as someone else said, he is the definition of a walking, love-bombing red flag).

I was scared that once she gave into him, he would kidnap her and hole her up in a far-away shack where she would never see her family again. Are male sixteen-year-olds in high school this psychopathic and narcissistic?

This "love pairing" is concerning, and does not make for a cutesy storyline, and instead begs to be used as a way to diagnose serial k*llers and stalkers.

The tension and chemistry between them were palpable, creating an electric atmosphere that had me eagerly turning page after page. I found myself completely invested in Hotaru and Hananoi's journey of self-discovery and budding romance.

The artwork in "A Condition Called Love" was not just visually stunning; it was a reflection of the emotional depth and authenticity of the characters. As I reached the conclusion of this first volume, I was filled with a bittersweet longing for more. The pacing of the plot was a gentle cadence that led me through a heartfelt narrative, culminating in a conclusion that left me feeling both satisfied and yearning for the next installment.

I am always enchanted by a 'he fell first' and, 'he fell harder romance'. This was magical, wish he did not cut his hair though as it was stunning!! But, I laughed out loud when I saw that he did.

I can't express just how much I adored "A Condition Called Love." It was a heartwarming journey that left me with a sense of joy and hope, a reminder of the beauty and magic that love carries within it. I eagerly await the next volume, eager to continue immersing myself in the evolving relationship between Hotaru and Hananoi, ready to experience all the love, tension, and heartwarming moments that are yet to come.

I have always been a manga reader since my teenager years. It is nice to come back to a cute high school romance. I can sense that there will be deeper themes in this book but I like how the author doesn't reveal too much in the early chapters. It makes me want to continue reading it. The atmosphere is a combination of light airy first-love with some mystery behind ML. I am excited to see how their relationship goes.

I recommend this to anyone that enjoys a cute high school romance manga.

Hotaru is a sixteen year old Japanese high school first year who has never thought to much about love. She prefers the time she spends with her friends and family. And she's not necessarily curious beyond a basic interest until she helps out a boy after a rough breakup.

The next day the same boy asks her out in the middle of class. What this manga focuses on next is an interesting romantic adventure as the boy Hananoi proceeds to be entirely devoted to her. Helping her with the smallest things and teaching her how having someone support you can be.

This is an refreshing take on shojo where we normally see the girl in the relationship chasing after the boy. I like it, I also like the fact that the female lead is disinterested at first. I wouldn't say she was aro, but she's concerned about whether she's capable of romantic love and it's a big point of topic in the volume I read.

If I can get my hands on more volumes I'll definitely be continuing the series.

I really enjoyed the manga. The characters are cute and individual. But I couldn't really empathize with the male protagonist. His feelings quickly become very intense. The plots are sometimes a bit strange, but on the whole I like the story. The illustrations are cute and gorgeous, too.

I love the art style and the way the characters are portrayed artistically. However I didn’t really enjoy the main male lead, just couldn’t get into him and his personality. The story was easy to follow along and it was a quick read for me as I finished in one sitting.

Overall I really enjoyed this fitst volume, the artstyle is freaking gorgeous and i think the story has potential.
