My daughter (10) says she enjoyed this much more than the Roman one as it was ‘less gory’ and her favourite story was ‘when the girl saved the cat’. Cleverly written to include lots of information on ancient Egypt within four short exciting adventures.
Thank you Netgalley, Terry Deary and Bloomsbury for this ARC.

Both my own children and those who I teach love the Horrible History book and TV series so I was excited to see what these were about. This book is made up of different short stories which are as entertaining as the non fiction books and tv programmes. Easy to read, full of accurate historical (and sometimes hysterical) facts, these will be a surefire hit with all age ranges.

Anything that gets children into reading or history is wonderful, and the famous Horrible Histories series does both. Unfortunately there hasn't been anything new for years - until now. There is a new set of historical fiction books featuring Romans, Stone Ages, Greeks and this one, which is about the ancient Egyptians.

Unlike the original Horrible Histories, these books feature fictional stories centring around children during significant aspects of the ancient Egyptian history. Stories feature the tomb of Tutankhamun and grave robbers, mummification, pyramids and the River Nile. The tales are exciting, clear, accessible and fun and have plenty of excellent illustrations. They really do cover the life of ancient Egyptians with plenty of facts thrown in as well as activities at the end of each story and historical references.

While many will prefer the original Horrible Histories books, this is a new series for the next generation and hopefully encourages youngsters to discover history in a new way. Recommended for children to read for themselves, around the age of seven and above. Fab little books, which I enjoyed reading.

These aren't the horrible histories of my childhood! The book is 4 short stories, each centred around a child. The information we know about the Egyptians is listed at the end but the story is just made up (unlike the Romans book where a child is inserted into a Roman story)

The stories wouldn't take long to read for a confident reader but might be more complicated for less-able readers. These might be better for children who are starting to get into history, as they're stories rather than facts.

I asked my son to read the books for his opinion, he tried and wasn't interested as it's not one of the usual horrible histories.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced ebook copy in exchange for an honest review.

The usual Terry Deary, does not disappoint.
Four funny and curious stories set in Ancient Egypt. Perhaps due to the length, we enjoyed the first book (story) more than the rest of them.
A great book for mid graders, young readers and Horrible Histories fans. The “you try” notes are always appreciated.

My son is a big fan of the Horrible Histories books and has recently learnt about the Egyptians at school so I thought this book would be perfect for him. We enjoyed reading the book together. It is written in a similar style to the normal Horrible Histories books but there are 4 individual stories.
