We all cry but why do boys try to hide it? This book delves into the emotions and the challenges we face. I am going to buy this for my preschool class because it's important to discuss at a young age and encourage self expression
It’s OK to Cry is the new addition to the Let’s Talk book series by the same author and illustrator duo. (If you are familiar with the Let’s Talk books, you will easily spot their established signature).
This is a book about feelings and emotions. aimed to promote the expression, understanding and management of them amongst children.
It is an ideal length and divided into chapters, one of which is specifically aimed for boys.
Each page contains vivid depictions of situations about feelings and emotions that accompany the text/some pictures form the background. The illustrations are lovely, as always. If you are new to these series and Jennings’ art, lucky you. The illustrations feature relatable child characters in relatable situations, but also, in a variety of situations, engaging in different activities and experiencing a range of emotions and challenges. The colours are always gorgeous in Jenning’s work.
As for the text, it is a range of different content: the names of the feelings or emotions, the descriptions of them, the description of a situation, steps, guides, advice, tips, dialogue and notes for the carers.
We have read all the other 4 books in the Let’s Talk series and possibly other books by Potter. Let’s Talk When Someone Dies used to be my favourite, but now, it is this one.
