As as late diagnosed autistic I found this a good read, it’s a short book (under 200 pages), I identified with a lot of peoples experiences.

The quiz at the end to give an idea if you are autistic or neurotypical is a bit misleading, but if it leads to an autistic person seeking support then maybe it’s a good thing?

This is written in a very clear and sweet way.
It's the universe and what to expect from it, from an autistic perspective. It explains neurotypical behaviour but through an autistic lens. I was captivated.

This is amazing! I loved reading a guide which not only gives advice to autistic people on how to navigate neurotypical society, but also frames some sections as ‘advice on how to deal with neurotypicals’ as though they were not ‘the norm’. It was written really well and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Definitely recommending it to anyone wanting an autistic-centred guide to autism!

Pros: Written by an autistic author.
Great length.
Provides insights about misconceptions around autism, what autistic individuals often hear from neurotypical individuals about their condition, what autism means and what it is like to experience it, autistic voices (accounts of people with lived experience with autism), great illustrations, easy-to-read (well-translated), the humour. It offers good insights about being autistic, and how neurotypicals can understand autistic individuals better.

Room for improvement: Many of the items in the glossary were fun, and intended to be funny. Though, I felt that when the irony was not clear, the reactions felt over the top - in a way like repeating what neurotypical people do to neurodivergent, but this time by autistic people towards neurotypicals. This book is built on the fact that the world is built around the majority and to give voice to autistic individuals, we do not need to repeat their mistakes.

In terms of the tone and the topics covered, this was a 3/5 for me.
I am unsure about the use of the word “autist” instead of “autistic”. Apologies if this was a pun, and I missed it.
