This was a really cosy witchy romcom with likeable characters, a charming romance and a fun premise!
⚝ Plot:
Cosy and heartfelt, 'Careful What You Witch For' weaves a charming tale of slow-burn supernatural romance, healing, and self-discovery. Set in the quaint village of Biddecote, a clandestine society of magical practitioners operates under the watchful eye of a strict witches' council, notorious for upholding a stringent code of conduct - one that leaves little room for deviation. The story introduces charismatic rule-breaker Becca Ashworth who finds herself embarking on a secret mission with the feared and distrustful abrogator, Connor. While engaging from the outset, the narrative deepens with unpredictable twists and turns. From the enchanted pub in Cornwall with its protective charms to the warmth of the Ashworth family's history, the world-building offers just enough detail to captivate. The plot is tight and cohesive, with no gaps or inconsistencies, ensuring a seamless reading experience.
⚝ Writing:
The prose is polished, accessible, and immersive, striking a balance between whimsical, atmospheric descriptions and authentic dialogue. Though the pacing may be slower in the initial chapters, this deliberate approach allows tension and emotional depth to build gradually.
⚝ Characters:
The romantic leads are thoughtfully developed and entirely endearing. Becca’s warmth, optimism, and quirky nature complement Connor’s initially gruff demeanour - prompting him to tentatively reveal a surprisingly considerate, tragically heroic side. The romance is refreshingly organic, an opposites-attract dynamic built on a healthy foundation of mutually evolving trust and respect. Their relationship blends tension with tenderness, resulting in a rewarding emotional arc. Even secondary characters serve a meaningful purpose within the story.
⚝ Impact:
The cosy atmosphere of the plot is juxtaposed with more serious themes, ensuring the reading experience remains both comforting and thought-provoking. The novel tackles psychological and emotional abuse, exploitation, and personal healing with nuance and sensitivity. These weightier elements are presented in a balanced manner, never becoming too dark or overwhelming, while maintaining an underlying sense of hope.
⚝ Overall:
Magical, character-driven and emotionally resonant, this is a satisfyingly grounded slow-burn supernatural romance. Engaging, reflective, and ultimately heartwarming, 'Careful What You Witch For' provides a delightful blend of gentle humour and character growth - perfect for those seeking a soothing autumnal read!

Thank you to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This was such a cozy and funny witchy romcom! The characters are so likable and sweet and they get up to the funniest antics and I loved the romance!
Careful What You Witch For is the second book in this series by Emma Jackson. I've not read the first one, but book two stands alone. Of course, there are some of the characters from book one but I didn't feel lost, having not read Witch You Weren't Here.
I was engaged from the start of Careful What You Witch For. Becca's determination to help her family began the story, drawing me in. I enjoyed the mix of romance and magic. Becca's dynamics with Connor are phenomenal and I enjoyed their grumpy-sunshine trope.
Careful What You Witch For is an amazing novel. I can't wait to go back and read book one.
Enjoyable witchy romance with interesting magic and delightful characters! I adored Becca and Connor; their relationship was so believable and the chemistry was electric.
Careful What You Witch For is a fun and easy read with some darker elements. I really enjoyed the writing style and grumpy x sunshine is always a win in my eyes. This was definitely an excellent choice as we head into the autumnal months and think lovers of romance with a witchy twist will thoroughly enjoy this!
This was the cutest grumpy sunshine romcom and an absolute magical rollercoaster!
I picked up this book not being sure what I was getting into really it just sounded really cute but the writing of this was incredible, the chemistry between the characters literally leapt off the page and I love the fact although it was a proper cute romcom it had so much depth too it. I think Connor’s story was such an important one particularly with it coming from a male pov and I think the romance was really spectacularly written. A lovely book!
Book Tour Review:
Today I am taking part in the Book Tour review of Careful What You Witch For by Emma Jackson.
Thisis the first book I have read of Emma's and it definitely won''t be the last. This is a follow up to Witch You Weren't Here, but can be read as a standalone. I absolutely loved this book, full orf romance and humour (Horatio the ghost) Becca is sunshine to Connor's grumpy. A gorgeous book to snuggle up with,it's witchtastic! Five Stars from me.
Thank you so very much to Rachel at Rachel's Random Rescources for the advanced copy.
My Thoughts: this one was a mix of a lot of the things I love.. witches, grumpy sunshine love story with a will they/wont they element and a cosy mystery too all thrown in together and it was an absolute joy to read.. although that description feels a bit tame since i read the book in about 6 hours i think it’s fair to say I devoured it.. the writing was almost spellbinding 🫣😂
Becca along with her cousin Harry and his girlfriend Kay are trying to find a cure for an illness that both Harry and his dad have, they know the key lies in an old ashworth artefact and come up with the genius idea to summon a ghost.. what could possibly go wrong??
Connor has been sent by the witches council to investigate Beccas family to find out what they’re up to and what secrets they’re hiding.. the last thing he’s expecting is to fall in love.
Becca and Connor are complete opposites but I thoroughly enjoyed ‘watching’ them fall in love.
It made me laugh so much & I finished the book with a huge smile on my face.. I will be looking out for more books from Emma in the future.

What a fun read that is ideal for autumnal days as we head towards Halloween. Returning to Biddicote, the spell keeping the witches and villagers safe is failing so Becca and family pursue a way to rectify it even if it means breaking magical laws to do it.
Connor was such a good character with unique skills that make him an outsider and misunderstood. The dynamics between him and Becca was a joy to read and I found myself grinning as I followed their road trip and sparks of romance.
This book has everything I love about witchy romance, imagination, magic, fabulous location and chemistry.
I received a pre realease copy of Careful What You Wish For from Netgalley and Emma Jackson in exchange for an honest review..
I absolutely loved this book. It had so much magic, mystery and romance. It is the perfect Romantasy.
It can easily be enjoyed as a standalone but best read after Witch You Weren't Here as the characters featured are from both books.

I thoroughly enjoyed this one! The chemistry between Conor and Becca was top tier and the complexity of their circumstances and connection to each other added a layer of tension and seeing them trying to fight their attraction and dancing around each other was delicious. These two are also great characters independently and I thought Emma Jackson has really crafted them into people, with complex back stories and layered emotions, which made it easy to fall into this story. The mystery surrounding a family artefact and their efforts to uncover it bring Conor and Becca closer together and seeing them open up to each other and build a connection was so rewarding and I love these two together.
Conor's story can be a bit difficult to read but it's such an important story to include, and from a male character as well. There are parts of this book that definitely hurt my heart to read and I wanted to give Conor a massive hug and hold on tight but at least he has Becca for that! I would have liked to see a little more of the Ashworth family, at least towards the end, as it would have been great to experience a little more of Conor's interaction with them but I'm happy with all the chemistry, vulnerable conversations, and power moves this story gave me and I'll be picking up more of Emma Jackson's books ASAP!
I received a free copy of this book. All views are my own.
I absolutely adore this, I think I might have loved it even more than the first book in the series. I should mention, although it’s a series you don’t need to read these in order or even read the 1st to enjoy this one, can totally be read as a standalone.
Becca is absolutely 100% one of my favourite witchy heroines, she was so much fun and I loved as she got Connor involved in her schemes, there was so much fun and humour in this. Connor, what can I say about Connor bless him, he’s so lovely and didn’t get the best start in the magic world so when he’s sent to Becca’s family it’s just so much hilarity.
I loved Emma Jackson’s humour so much, their were so many brilliant one liners worthy a stand up here and everything felt natural not forced humour. Probably why I loved Becca so much, I think if I ever met Emma she’d have me in tears of laughter. I should add the romance is completely gorgeous and totally sigh inducing swoon (this is a romance not just funny)
If your looking for a story to tickle the ribs as well as melt your heart, that you won’t want to put down and will definitely leave you in a much happier and brighter place than when you started, Careful what you Witch for is a book I can wholeheartedly recommend.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for granting me free access to the advanced digital copy of this book.
4 stars book from me. Loved the plot and the storytelling in Careful What You Witch For and the relatable, likable characters,. Loved every single second reading it.
I'm reviewing this via NetGalley, as part of a tour with Rachel's Random Resources.
This is a fun contemporary romance with a paranormal theme. The two main characters, Becca and Connor, were fun to read about. I found Becca quite humorous, and initially, Connor seemed rather grumpy, but that just made him all the more loveable. Some of Becca and Connor’s exchanges made me laugh out loud, and I enjoyed the witchy theme.
I also felt the writing had a lovely cosy quality, which is great if you read to escape, as I do. I began to feel very much at home with these characters. If you like paranormal romance, give this a try.
Thank you to NetGalley, Rachel's Random Resources, and to the author and publisher, for the opportunity to read and review this.
Definitely a very magical read!
I really enjoyed the connection between Becca and Connor, there was some proper sparks between them, even on their first fateful meeting! I was completely invested into finding out how they would get on together and if they would clash over the rules of witchcraft.
Becca is a really likeable character, she is spunky and brave, willing to bend the rules to help her family.
Connor is quiet and reserved, he tries to follow the rules, and he worries about his own magical abilities too much and lacks in confidence about his future and his place in the magical world. It was great to see him become more confident and happy with his abilities and to find himself able to interact with other witches.
It was fascinating seeing these characters working together, building up their friendship and solving some mysteries along the way.
A wonderfully fast paced story that was hilarious at times and had some lovely romance elements too!
A perfect magical combination!
This book was so cute! A very cosy witchy romcom!
I was the title and cover on Netgally and thought it looked like a really cute read! It did not disappoint! Loved the story, relationship building, banter and witchy vibes throughout!
Can’t wait to read more by this author!
Emma Jackson - Careful What You Witch For.
What an absolute gem this book is!
Put down your wand and let the cauldron stir itself. You owe it to yourself to make time for this gorgeously magical tale of love and all things witchy.
Becca and Connor are complete opposites. She is feisty, happy-go-lucky and brave, while he is a little less confident, socially awkward, a bit of a grump and an awfully sensible chap.
When the Witches Council send Connor to spy on Becca and her family, he basically gets dragged into their madness and finds himself on a mission with Becca that leads to all sorts of adventures.
If you enjoy a witchy read, a sunshine v grumpy love story, and a light hearted cosy mystery, you will love this book.
#CarefulWhatYouWitchFor made me properly belly laugh. I oow’d and ahh’d at all the squishy romance and totally fell in love with this quirky, heart squeezer of a book.
I’m off to read more of Emma Jackson’s books. Now where’s my black cat and my pointy hat?
#CarefulWhatYouWitchFor is fresh, funny and thoroughly uplifting.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This is one of those books that made me buy the previous set in this world as I had a lot of fun. I also cause some serious sleep deprevitation because the night etc but it's also a good moment to read.
My brain is sure that the role of Connor is Abhorsen but that's another series even if Connor could be an excellent MC in a high fantasy novel.
I suppose that we can classify this novel as romantasy, or whatever the genre is called, but I loved how the author did an excellent job in balancing the fantasy and the romance part.
There's a complex and well-developed world building, there's a magical system, and there's rule that could bring to very serious punishment.
The situation could be dire for Becca and her family as they are not the greatest fan of the Witch Council, the governing organ of witches, and they have other issues in their family.
Connor is sent to investigate and when he and Becca fall on him, literally, it's the beginning of a very entertaining and well plotted story.
I'm not the best person to evaluate the spicy level (Queen of Skipping sex scenes as I found them boring) but I can say that it's an excellent romantasy.
The conclusion is that it's the perfect summer read as it will make you laugh and have fun while rooting for Becca and Connor
Many thanks to Orion and Rachel's Random Resources for this ARC, all opinions are mine

Sometimes you need to be careful what you witch for...
Becca Ashworth's family is in trouble and with their magical legacy under threat, it puts their small village of Biddicote at risk too. So going against the witching tenets to summon an ancestor for help seems like a small price to pay to fix the problem...at first.
Connor Lynch is the Witches Council's secret weapon and he's just been deployed to find out exactly what the Ashworths are up to. But how he ends up posing as Becca's fake husband at a magical inn in Cornwall as they hunt down a magical artefact is just as perplexing as the cheerful witch herself.
When their attraction for each other grows, Becca and Connor question everything they have been taught - and soon the missing artefact isn't the only thing they are searching for. As love collides with duty, it's clear that sometimes you need to be careful what you witch for...
My Opinion
I am not sure what appealed to me more about this book - the cover or the title. I simply adored this book, it was a delightful escape and will definitely make for a great book to read in the run up to Halloween. From the title you can guess that this is a paranormal book, but there is so much more going on. I enjoyed following Connor and Becca as they went on their magical hunt - it was fun to see how the pair learned to work together.
This is only the second book I have read by Emma Jackson and I am not sure why I haven't read more. I will be checking out my local library to see if I can pick up anymore.
