Excellent narration kept me engaged in subject abotu which I had very little previous experience.
Thank you to NetGalley aan the publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I was really excited to read the book because I'm a dancer and was curious to see how Shirley Ballas would combine her passions for dance and a good murder mystery. I enjoyed the concept, though I found it challenging to keep track of the many characters at first. This made it a bit difficult to get into initially, but the intriguing plot and ongoing whodunit aspect made it worthwhile. The audiobook helped me a lot when the pace felt slow, as it allowed me to immerse myself more deeply and better understand the different characters.
The premise of this had me really looking forward to it. However for me it tried to be too many things and ended up feeling more like a romantic saga set on the dance floor woth a few murders dropped in.
The narration was good but the pacing was off. There was no urgency and it didn't seems rhat important that there had been murders. I was more gripped and invested in the romance than uncovering the murderer. It felt a long listen and pitched at the wring audience. The skillful knowledge of the dancing business showed through but it needed more mention and greater emphasis on the crimes.
As a debut this wasn't too bad but the next in the series needs more editing and tension. If you like dancing and romance with a hint of murder this is for you. Could almost be a cozy murder. Worth giving the second a read or listen to see how it progresses.
Thank yoy netgallery and publisher and author and narrator.
This book is entertaining if a little OTT. But I didn't expect anything different from the glamour of the dance world.
It is light-hearted and intriguing and something to pick you up after a heavy novel.
Many thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for gifting me this arc in exchange for an honest, unbiased review.
The scores are in.....and unfortunately it's a very large 0 from me!
This was very strictly - over the top, but where strictly excels (in the execution) this fell flat on it's face.
I get what it was trying to do, but it just didn't do it for me I'm afraid!
If you're looking for a silly, over the top summer read this is it - don't take it too seriously and you might enjoy it
Thank you to NetGalley and HarperCollins UK for the ARC
Superb first book of a series written by a professional dancer with over 50 years experience in Latin and Ballroom. I couldn't stop humming Sophie Ellis Bextor whilst reading it 😂 So many thanks to NetGalley for the ARC/audiobook with brilliant narration - I certainly didn't read some of the passages the same as the narrator, who added her own touch of humour!
So this was a tough one to review!!!
The narrator Clare Corbett is excellent as always but sadly the book was just too predictable and cheesy for me!
I was lucky to receive this to review via NetGalley and unfortunately this does not fall into the genre I was expecting.
Don’t expect too much! It’s a horny, romantic but trying to be more.
I would describe this as very cheesy chick lit!!! And not great at that!!
Disappointing and definitely will not read more.
Whilst I have held no interest in ballroom dancing before, this book has made it incredibly captivating to me. It was such an amazing book and a delight to listen to.
To put this review in context, I have absolutely no interest in ballroom dancing and I’ve never watched Strictly. I requested this title because I like Shirley Ballas. She’s spirited, intelligent and I wondered how she would fare as a writer. The answer is very well. This is a fascinating glimpse behind the scenes of the fiercely competitive dancing world. I’m convinced that many of the characters and incidents are drawn from real life, but of course, ‘bear no resemblance to anyone living!’. And that’s what makes this a compelling tale. The listener, or reader gets to know the individuals involved and with excellent narration to support, this is a story that held my attention. It’s a bit if a slow burn as the scene is set and people are introduced, but it’s well paced and the tension and drama mounts as the story unfolds. Imaginative, fun and really well done.
This started a little slow, but don't let that fool you. It steadily built towards a thrilling climax with a captivating blend of murder, competition, and simmering romance. The narration was well-done, keeping me engaged throughout the story. Once things picked up, I found myself racing to see what happened next. While the beginning might test your patience a bit, the payoff is worth it. 4 out of 5 stars

Thank you Netgalley, Harper Collins Audio and Shirley Dallas, Sheila McClure for the audio Arc of Murder on the Dance floor.
Narrated by Clare Corbett
I have to confess something. When I saw the title of this book, the same song popped into my head! If you know, you know!
Anyway, back to the book. I love a good old cosy mystery/thriller and this one kept out at me. Usually the cosy mysteries I read happen at creepy old houses so the place setting for this one was a great change and it worked incredibly well. What can go wring with a bunch of successful and ambitious ballroom dancers?!
The pace of this cosy mystery was medium and flowed really well. The characters were well fleshed out and I felt either you love or hated them. All of them had their own characteristics and felt like they had their own voices. Plenty of twists and turns but not so many as to tie your brain into knots. A great fun read.
This book was narrated but Clare Corbett. Claire did an amazing job at this narration. She has a very good story telling voice who puts the right emphasis where it's needed.
4.25 rounded to 4 for Amazon/Netgalley
It is a well written novel, with punchy dialogue that rings true, and the descriptive writing brings the scenes to life.
A book that stands out from the crowd. The characters and the setting are written exceptionally well. A joy to listen to.
I think that this book took a little while for me to get into, as the start was a bit slow. However, once it got to the competition part, the murder and romance it got more interesting. The narration was good. I liked this story. Good job to the authors too on this book.
Thank you to Netgalley and Harper Collins UK Audio for the opportunity to listen to this audiobook for in exchange for my feedback on it.
The setting of Blackpool Tower Ballroom Dance Competition is pretty interesting. Authors has taken us inside the dancer’s life and how fierce dance competition turns into a deadly event. The book is intense and it is filled with secrets, mystery, red herrings, plot twists, intrigue, lies, murder, sex and crime.
A promising young dancer collapse on the floor during the competition. She was passionate and determined. The cause of her death isn’t disclosed yet. Though the investigation is going on and the unfortunate death of her has scared everyone but the competition must continue.
Lilly Richmond is a dance legend and teacher. Ruby is one of her student. Susie Cooper is a former student and turned detective now. Jack was the young dancer’s partner. Lily takes the help of Susie to solve the mystery of her death. The twists and turns were unpredictable. Susie has to face the man she left behind in her past. While there was also misunderstanding between two people. I liked the murder plot as well as romance as sub genre too. It was horrifying how the young dancer collapsed and the ending was even more terrifying. This is a great suspense thriller that will keep you guessing till the end and keep you on edge.
I loved the Authors interview at the end. Loved learning about the author’s inspiration behind the book and their experiences. I loved that the narrator introduced us to characters in the beginning. The Narrator did a good job.
