An interesting listen with music theory and history blended into a holistic, New-Agey package. A little sparse on the science behind the claims, but the music theory and history was still a fascinating listen. An informative and relaxing listen.

What an interesting and captivating book about sound. I had no idea all the history behind sounds and how they affect our brains. This book was really a delight to listen to - as opposed to reading it - because the sounds were a part of the book as well. Wonderful.

Very insightful, loved learning about this as someone who has never dove into these types of concepts!

I loved the audiobook for Sonic Consciousness.

The way different sounds were incorporated into the audiobook helped me follow what Evan Soundwell was describing. I’m not sure I would have had the same experience with the physical or e book.

I also like how he talked about sound use from the past and present.

"Sonic Consciouness" was difficult for me to really get into. I found the background noise distracting and it took away from the seriousness of the text. This was not for me as I just could not connect with the narrator or text. DNF, but I wish the author much success. While it may not be for me, there will be others who love this!

Sonic Consciousness was a fascinating book on the history of music and it's healing properties. Explanations of music theory mixed with science present the healing properties of music and the potential for the use of this in the future. As someone with very limited musical background but eith a music composer hisband, the concepts and topics covered in this book were very well explained and laid out. The audiobook also contained musical examples throughout which added to the experience. This book is great for those music and science people in your life.

"Sonic Consciousness" by Evan Soundwell is a nonfiction book about music. It's definitely worth a listen! Lot of interesting info. It's a great pallet cleanser between heavier tomes. It's 5 hrs long. The narrator is Bill Rassell, and he did a good job!

The full title of this audiobook may help you understand better what it is about.

"Sonic Consciousness: Introduction to a New Model of Holistic Sound Therapy: It's Foundations, Key Discoveries, Technology and Philosophy".

One issue is that to get the point of his musical examples, you need to listen at 1.0 speed, which I never do, so I had to go back and forth in audio speeds. I sonic-read this twice and took more notes the second time just because I found it so interesting. This is a very abbreviated summary of the notes mostly listing the topics:

Ch. 1 - Interconnectedness, symmetry across scales in the Universe,
Fractal nature, sacred geometry.

Ch. 2 - Sound is a pressure wave.
Resonance - two vibrating objects close together will begin to vibrate similarly.

Ch 3 - Diatonic scale and the 7 modes of it with examples.

Johannes Sebastian Bach was a musical and mathematical genius!! He used math to compose his music.

Ch 4 - Law of Octaves

Ch 5 - Evolution of the Musical scales
Bach's Well Tempered Clavier

No Ch. 6

Ch. 7 - Harmonic Convergence
Classical is the best genre for healing. Bach is the best of the classical composers for healing.

Ch. 8 - Concert Scale, A = 440 Hz, ignites imagination. Another tuning may be better for healing, such as 432 Hz.

Ch. 9 - EEG, brainwaves, Binaural beats can have benefits in neuroscience, but this field is in infancy

Ch. 10 - his studies
Ch. 11 - Sound healing history. Fractal Resonance Mapping Therapy (FRMT) is experimental and is being used to create meditations.

There are two music therapy sessions at the end, one for day and one for night. The night one put me right to sleep. The daytime one was a series of short pieces that were disparate and more jarring than anything. Despite that. I do believe in the healing power of music.

I did enjoy this audiobook. Thank you to Netgalley, Books Go Social, and Evan Soundwell for providing this audiobook in exchange for my honest review.

This is a comprehensive book about "sonic therapy". I picked this book up because I wanted to learn more about sound theory - if you are like me, skeptical about anything that is not evidence-based, has not been backed with science yet, then your reasons to listen to this book would to learn about harmony and sound.

This was not for me.

This mind-blowing author is knowledgeable about so many little known facts that it makes a fascinating audio book. He has theories about music and sound that I have never heard before. Highly recommended. Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for giving me a copy of the book.
