The Consciousness Company is centred on the idea of “what if we could implant thoughts”. Two Londoners invent a technology which can do it. When this is monetised, things change for everyone.
This was an interesting read, and as an author, I appreciate the writer’s work very much. The concept, the themes tackled, and the underlying themes were 5/5 for me.
The prose, the structure and the plot left me with confused feelings. 2.5 stars.
Characterisation was 3 stars.
Mood 2.5 stars.
Overall, 3.25 stars.
The Consciousness Company is a fascinating and deeply thoughtful look at what happens when tech takes on consciousness, the stuff of life itself. It's a wildly imaginative and mind-expanding read – a timely, prescient novel of big ideas about what makes us human. This is a smart read for people who like smart books, and I couldn't recommend it more!
The Consciousness Company is witty, touching and eerily believable. Pitch-perfect in its portrayal of the tech start-up world, it captures the Zeitgeist with devastating clarity. It culminates in an awesome crescendo.
My thanks to NetGalley for the ARC! 3.5⭐️/5
The book is about a tech company that successfully attempts to control the consciousness of the consented members by implanting thoughts aiding them to experience self-awareness, virtual reality and much more. It begins with an introduction into the world's of the two founders of the company--their yearnings, behaviour and contrasting personalities elegantly depicted. It is after this that the story begins and the narration is good; although, it could have been more engrossing considering the theme. It's the rarefied theme and the storyline that's absolutely compelling. If you like neuroscience and the magic that science and technology can trigger on the human brain, then this book is for you. The book keeps us hooked and can be completed in one or two sittings. More in my blog: https://booksfoodmylife.blogspot.com/2024/06/rosens-consciousness-company-brilliant.html
