Ruth faces small challenges and big emotions on her first day of school. With a little help from her parents, the little girl manages to make the following day better for herself and her schoolmates.
This is a lovely story with an interesting approach that could be helpful to both children and parents. To be completely honest however, I'm not a big fan of the illustration style and the general layout.
Thank you Netgalley for providing this e-book for review consideration. All opinions are my own.
I thought that this was a really good story.
This is the second book that we have read featuring Ruth and we enjoyed it just as much as the other book - again this one had some good messages and covered the first day at a new school for Ruth and her brother.
I enjoyed how the story was written, it is easy to follow and understand and gets the spirit of the book over very well too - the book reassures in a subtle way, after all started school is a massive thing for children and I remember my daughter starting school when she was 4 - she was the youngest girl in the year and she didn't know anyone as she hadn't attended Nursey due to Covid restrictions so she definitely knew how Ruth was feeling - apprehensive, scared and a bit excited too.
The illustrations in the book were great and really brought the story to life too. I thought it was very well done.
It is 4.5 stars from me for this one, rounded up to 5 stars for Goodreads and Amazon - very highly recommended!
We really liked the story for this and was really good seeing Ruth turn things round for herself with help from her mum. I read this with my daughter who is 4 but I would say it was best suited to a 6-8 year old range.
This was an enjoyable and heartfelt read about a little girl who is facing the challenges of the first day of school and making new friends. Social anxiety is something we all face and is exceptionally difficult for young children. In this book we navigate these issues with little Ruth. Her journey is aided by her loving family. Patience, love and family work together to a happy ending. 𝗟𝗜𝗧𝗧𝗟𝗘 𝗥𝗨𝗧𝗛 𝗙𝗜𝗥𝗦𝗧 𝗗𝗔𝗬 𝗢𝗙 𝗦𝗖𝗛𝗢𝗢𝗟 is a lovely addition to any personal and/or classroom library.
This book will be so helpful and meaningful to lots of kids. I loved how the author included a technique for kids to solve problems and ease anxiety. It's super easy for readers to use this tool in their own lives, and I think they likely will because a) it worked really well for Ruth (and it was realistic), and b) the author made it really easy to understand, perfect for the younger readers that this book is intended for. Lastly, it was amazing how much detail (both cultural and artistic) the illustrator put into each and every illustration. This made me happy to see in a kids' book, and kids will absolutely adore it. Bravo!
