The Tax Collector’s Good News is a unique blend of historical speculation and religious insight that had me hooked from the first page. Exploring the mysteries surrounding the Gospel of Matthew's origins, this novel offers a rich tapestry of historical detail and imaginative storytelling. What I enjoyed most about reading it was how it brought ancient times to life, making me feel like I was right there alongside the characters as they grappled with faith, identity, and divine inspiration.

This is a fabulous piece of fiction. It is rooted in the knowledge of the land of the time using scripture but also other primary texts and archeology to colour in the detail. The lead characters may not be real however the detail is excellent giving the sights and smells of what was happening in Galilee, this wasn’t a backwater but a cosmopolitan area, with traders passing through and rabbles and tribes fighting and living cheek by jowl. This is a great read, made more so by the ease of reading it and the ease of slipping into the text and really seeing the sights as they most probably were.
