A book that was written like life as someone working the streets. Meeting different characters dealing with not only crimes but also the people who are supposed to be your supervisors but they don’t even know what they are doing themselves. You follow along with Rex and Kat at work and some of the off hours as they work at solving the case right up to the explosive end. An excellent book with many good characters and a storyline.

Thank you to Netgalley for the ARC of Follow The Money by Bob DeGeorge. I was interested in this book because it is set in San Jose California and because I had a dear friend who was a detective in San Jose. I enjoyed reading this book but I will say that it doesn't read like other books I have read. It reads more like the stories my friend used to tell me about his detective days. This book may be fiction but it reads more like a true crime novel.

What's the difference between real policing and the stuff on TV? Real police departments are short of staff and even shorter on money. Regardless of where they are or whether they are rural, state, city, or county. This book is set in California.
This is not a conventional novel but a kind of compilation of fictionalized true crime episodes as experienced by real cops in a real city. The officers and detectives are the links that underscore the near reality of life for those who work in law enforcement. There is attention paid to those who stumble into a life of crime due to a gambling obsession, and/or threats and coercion for reasons known to gangsters everywhere. It certainly is something I like and can pick over with some retired cops and their wives.
I requested and received a free temporary uncorrected e-book file from BooksGoSocial via NetGalley. Thank you.

The premise was intriguing and it's easy to understand the police-related things without any prior knowledge. However, that's about all this book has going for it. The grammar/punctuation has many errors (particularly in relation to dialogue). There is a lot of repetition where the characters do/learn something through exposition and explanation, then it gets repeated in dialogue form. There's a lot of explanation that helps with understanding of terms and situations, but a lot of it is unnecessary. The dialogue does not flow naturally and the majority of it is purely to deliver information rather than to develop character or how a normal person would speak. I was not drawn into the action scenes because they were mostly technical and followed a format similar to "he did then, then this happened." The book has potential if it gets a serious rework, but in its current state I could not force myself to finish it.
