I think this is a great introduction to house sketching. Kiefer talks about different materials and their advantages and disadvantages, covers sources of inspiration and shows plenty of examples of his progress. At some points, it did feel a bit repetitive. I had hoped that in the last section with specific examples, he'd go more into depth about the challenges of the individual sketches instead of just explaining the process in general terms again. Overall the book inspired me and gave me the courage to sketch a bit myself.

The art style of the cover appealed to me so much that I had to read the book. I don't consider myself an artist at all, but I've been drawn to urban sketching for years. This book is a thoughtfully written guide with beautiful illustrations and welcoming to a beginner. Kiefer writes from experience but manages to convey ideas and techniques in a way that doesn't assume it will all be easy for everyone. He encourages people to find their own style as they try out the materials and techniques that work for him.

As with any art book, I think this would be more fully enjoyed in physical rather than on an electronic device.

The book is filled with absolutely stunning drawings of architectural structures along with helpful tips on which tools, which lines, and what perspective we should utilize. I picked up this book because it reminded me of Ghibli's studio sketches, which I admire deeply. I would recommend this book to any artist or wannabe artist who would like to enhance their skills in house-sketching!

This book makes me want to grab my sketchbook and run out to start sketching! I love to sketch anyway and ‘Housesketching’ is full of inspiration and accessable tips and information.
Albert Kiefer encourages the reader to use his ideas and tips and make them their own, a wonderful addition to any artist or aspiring artist’s bookshelf.

Housesketching : Learn to Create Energetic and Expressive Architectural Drawings. This book provides a great way for drawing buildings in a more relaxed, less perfect way. The focus is on creativity and interpretation rather than perfect measurements, perspective and lines. It is a fun book but you still get a great result and learn so much. Excellent.

Love this book! Love the style of drawing, the imperfections that make the drawings so attractive and special. Can't wait to try the exercises and learn the techniques as an urban sketcher, but also as a watercolor painter. Will definitely recommend this book.

The book is not eligible to be reviewed on Amazon yet, so will review when it's out.

In ‘Housesketching’, Albert Kiefer shares his techniques when it comes to, like the title suggests; sketching houses. He walks through his approach and the basic ideas to keep in mind when sketching. He then goes over the process, from picking out your subject all the way to composition, perspective, color and details, and so much more.

I thought the book was perfectly paced, and it was a good level of information. I feel like I could learn a lot but it wasn’t overwhelming you with blocks of theory. I think it was a good art topic to choose to teach, since it’s very specific and allows you to really hone in on one kind of drawing, and the author has lots of experience. I got inspired to try sketching scenery in this way, and I tried it out following the methods and thought it was very fun.

To conclude, this is a very nice art book! I also loved looking at all of the authors own sketches and being inspired to go out and look at the beauty of houses and architecture.

Fantastic guide to get started in the world of house sketching, or even just to enjoy Kiefer's lively and atmospheric sketches. It starts with the basics and teaches you just enough to make it fun and manageable. The lessons are very hands on, without difficult language, and full of examples and useful tutorials.
Very well sequenced and structured, it's made me pick up my pens and sketchbook with the hopes of being able to capture a whole world of characters and stories I didn't know was around my streets.

I am not a sketcher by any stretch of the imagination, but this book had me curious about the sketches featured in it. For someone who is learning to sketch and interested in houses, this book is a lovely way to learn. It is not for a true beginner, but for someone who has an artistic flare and may be learning to pick up another skill or focus for their work. The instructions are very clear and walk through most of the key steps, and what I particularly liked is that, for each example, there is a photo of the inspiration and then the sketch that came of it.

This book is a great addition for anyone who likes to draw houses or landscapes and wants to be more on the architecture side of things; and I also think it would be a great coffee table book for someone to flip through provided it's also available in hardcover or as an oversized.

Keifer’s book, Housesketching, is very inspiring. I haven’t sketched since I was a teenager and this book has my creative juices flowing. I have been inspired to keep a sketch book with me to draw a bit each day. I highly recommend this book to help you find your style. Kiefer presents the process in easy to follow steps and gives excellent advice.

If you like to draw I think you'll like this. If you like to draw buildings, I think you'll love this! I sketch for fun and the tips and tutorials in this book help me make my sketches more complex without being stressful.

I usually sketch the settings of whatever I'm reading, either from memory or from images online, and already I'm getting much better at perspective and colouring following the Albert Kiefer's advice.

Even though I sketch on my iPad, if you prefer to use physical art supplies there is what seems very helpful information on which supplies to invest in and tips for using them, how to achieve the colours you are going for etc.

Sometimes, we need to see the work of other artists to be inspired. Sometimes we need to hear from them to accomplish the same. Here the author made sure to present all the concepts of his work and made me realize that sometimes perfection would not be a goal on its own. Quite the opposite. There is a beauty in imperfection, and for that, I am grateful, that this book exists. It sparked my love to sketch and I will gladly pick up my pencil once again.

I'll admit I was drawn to this book by the prettiness of the cover. I was delighted to read a thoughtfully written guide with beautiful illustrations.

The author writes with authority without it reading as overly simplified, condescending, or 'so easy a caveman can do it'.

I appreciated that in the rundown of the author's preferred supplies, he offers insight into their flaws rather than focusing solely on their positive attributes. He also acknowledges that the tools he lists are what works for him as opposed to assuming everyone will love what he uses.

Sidenote: this book is a hard book to fully appreciated on a device, I firmly believe that a physical copy would lend to a more enjoyable experience.
