Truly a page turner!
Excellent writing. I was immediately drawn into the lives of the main characters! Charly Dean, a cute six year old blond girl, was abducted and found murdered. This small town in certainly isn't used to this sort of thing close to home. Fast forward a few months, and a second six year old girl is found in the same area. As Charly's parents are nearly torn apart from these events, they end up focused on a common goal of finding the killer.
I really enjoyed the additional perspective of the murderer - it provided so much color to the story but maintained the secrecy of their identity. Well done!
Thank you to NetGalley, Storm Publishing and Nicky Downes for the eARC.
This was an excellent book. The author, Nicky Downes, wrote it in a style I haven’t come across before. She used extremely short chapters with multiple alternating perspectives. Most chapters were only a page or two long. This could have made the book disjointed and hard to follow, but Downes did it masterfully. The book was gripping and propulsive.
I was also incredibly impressed with how Downes wrote about grief, showing how it impacts and shapes relationships. I loved her writing so much that I purchased another of her books upon finishing this one.
Robert and Emma are facing every parent’s nightmare; living in the aftermath of their daughter's murder, when another child is killed. They soon discover that the two girls were not chosen at random.
This book is really well written but deals with very heavy content, especially child murder.
Thanks Storm publishing and NetGalley for the ARC of Her Perfect Girl by Nicky Downes.
If you liked books like I'll Be gone in the dark, or a good girl's guide to murder, then sit back as this book is a brilliant story that will have you hooked from start to finish.
Charly Dean is discovered dead in the woods, murder that rips not just her town, but also her family and brings her parents to breaking point Till the very same happens to another girl and her parents will stop at nothing to uncover the truth. One that is shocking and perhaps lies in her past... That her murder may not have been random.
This chilling truth, and the how this story moves at a very fast pace from chapter to chapter is how I ended up reading this suspenseful,( edge of the seat thriller with a nail biting finish )story. in one sitting.
I wasn't expecting that ending to be honest. And it was brilliantly written. I would highly recommend this book to any fans of true crime.
The Perfect Girl by Nicky Downes:
A riveting murder mystery as seen through the eyes of the main characters. A six year old girl goes missing and is found dead. This shocking story displays all of the emotions of her parents as they try to track down the killer. You hear from the detectives who are looking at all of the clues and even a glimpse into the mind of the vicious monster who killed her.
It’s a sad story and very emotional but was very well done!
A very good, gripping, twisting, interesting book, cannot wait to read the rest of the series. It just show you that the killer is always close by.
This book was well written, short chapters and very past faced which I enjoy reading. My type of read
6yrs old Charly Dean with beautiful blonde hair was taken and then she was found dead with her hair cut off. Naturally, her parents were devastated and the police investigation been stalled due to no leads
2nd girl found dead in same place with her cut off
Very gripping and emotional book
Thank you to Netgalley and Storm Publishing
This story is told through multiple point of views, with short chapters, that keep the reader from getting bored. Some chapters are told from the point of views of both of the grieving parents, the killer, and multiple investigators. It will keep you guessing until the last moment when everything comes to light. I liked the fact that we just jumped right into the story, and didn't have to wait for things to actually happen. My attention was grabbed in the first chapter, and this book didn't let me go until I was done. I stayed awake after my shift in order to finish this when I really needed to sleep instead. It was worth it.
My only complain was that I wish we went more in depth into the mind of the killer during this POVs at the end of the book to get more of an explanation as to why he did what he did. That's the reason why I'm giving this book 4 stars instead of 5.
Thank you to Nicky Downes, Storm Publishing, and NetGalley for the eARC of this book.
'm torn about this book. The beginning was captivating and I couldn't put it down, but the ending didn't quite live up to the beginning and felt incomplete. Despite that, I still really liked it and found it hard to put down.
I loved the multiple POVs and short chapters.
★★★½ ROUNDED UP ⬆️⭐️

I want to thank NetGalley and Storm Publishing for the opportunity to review this book.
This hit too close to home. A long time ago I decided that if a book affected my dreams or thoughts in a negative way, I would let myself DNF it. It’s the case with this one. Wish I could have gotten into it and seen if there was redemption but alas I have many more uplifting books to read.
Nicky Downes is a new author to me, and I enjoyed this Mystery/Procedural Thriller. A young girl sneaks out to the park from her grandmother's house and becomes the victim of a killer who seems to be just beginning. Charly Dean's death forever changes the lives of her parents who even in their grief, want to get justice for their daughter.
This is a fast-paced and emotional book. The chapters and many of the sentences are short, keeping the story moving quickly but also coming across as choppy at times. I got used to this writing style after a few chapters and really became engaged in the story. The book has multiple points-of-view, including some very creepy chapters giving us a glimpse inside the mind of the killer.
It took me a bit, especially with Emma, but I grew to like Charly's parents, Emma and Robert. I also enjoyed getting to know the members of law enforcement investigating the case. It takes a bit to warm to DI James Chambers even though he is a good detective. I especially liked PC Sara Mason who works hard at searching for clues in places that even DI Chambers doesn't think of. The book has a lot of sadness, but has a satisfying and hopeful ending. I don't know if this is the start of a new series, but I would love to see this team investigate other cases.
I received an advance copy of this ebook at no cost from NetGalley and Storm Publishing. My review is voluntary and unbiased.
When Emma’s daughter goes missing, she and husband Robert will do all they can to find her. After all, Charley is HER PERFECT GIRL. But Nicky Downes makes her the perfect girl for another, more sinister soul who is on a mission.
After an extensive search Charly’s body is found by a dog walker. While the entire town mourns, Emma and Robert’s once strong relationship begins to come apart. Then another girl goes missing and. Emma begins looking for common denominators between the girls; their mother’s shop at the same stores and they are in the same school system. As the police follow up on their own leads, they begin to wonder if they have a serial killer in their midst. Bringing in numerous suspects for questioning, they move, ever slowly toward the truth. Can sins of the past reverberate into the future?
I have to give a shout out to PC Sarah Mason who is dogged in putting herself out there and finding the links between cases. I enjoyed this one, my first Nicky Downes novel and hope to read more from her. The only problem that I had was that there were SO many names to try to keep track of, leading to confusion at times. While I felt that all the names WERE necessary to keep me guessing, it was a lot. However, I’d love to see PC Sarah Mason advance in her career. I’m curious to see where Nicky takes me next. I DID like the short, quick chapters that read like bullet points that I could run through quickly.
Thank you to Net Galley and Storm Publishing for this ARC opportunity. All opinions are my own and given voluntarily.
This is the third book by Nicky Downes I have read and again enjoyed. Keeps you gripped right to the last page in a rollercoaster of a book. Thanks to Storm Publishing and NetGalley for the chance to ARC this book.
This book deals with grief and the different ways we deal with our losses, both big and small. It is made up of 190 chapters, each containing the thoughts of one of the characters. It is a book about losses and gains permeated by a criminal investigation. Very good.
Murder in this book is very disturbing. It follows the Dean family. They are a small family of three mom is Emma and dad is Robert, their little girl is Charly. Charly is six years old and stay ing the evening at grandma's house. She was really quite so her grandma thought she had put herself to bed as she was known to do from time to time. Unfortunately, that is not where she was. Charly decided that she wanted to go to the park and she didn't get to go earlier that day so she was going to go now. So she went and she would never come home again.
This book takes you through the grief of the parents and how each handle in the own different ways. Emma handles things by not eating for a long while and then she starts an online Facebook support group for those who have lost of children. Robert goes about his daily routine at work and is continually trying to figure out who took their baby away from them. He is constantly trying to help the police and more or less getting in there way.
Then they find out there has been another little girl found in the same place and in the same park. How many more little girls are going to die before they catch this brutal crazy killer?
The author Nicky Downes has a way with her words as to not making them be too descriptive that you can't stomach it. I Really enjoyed reading this book I hope you do as well!
Happy reading!
This book is a fast paced thriller with short chapters and multiple POVs.
The very short chapters kept me engaged and motivated to keep reading to find out who the killer was, and the different POVs, from the parents to the police to the killer, give all the information and details needed to know everything about the crimes.
I kept guessing untill the end, some monsters are closer to you than you might think…
Thank you Nicky Downes, Storm Publishing & NetGalley for an e-ARC copy.

Wonderful book. Full of twists and turns which keeps you guessing until the end. A gripping storyline, well worth reading.
This is a 5 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 read from me. I was hooked from the first page. When Emma and Paul lose their daughter Charley to a Murderer, their whole lives crumble, who would do this and why? Then they find out a second little girl with blonde hair has been taken, there seems to be a pattern developing.. when a third girl is attempted to be taken from her garden, she breaks free, can Nicole her mom identify the killer? I was fully invested in the story and the main characters. It was fast paced in that there was a lot happening. I highly recommend this read and hope there are more DI Jack Chambers to come?
digital arc was provided by Netgalley and Storm Publishing
Disappointing read, I skimmed most of the book.
Synopsis
A couple lost their daughter and some months later, another one was taken.
What I like
Almost nothing.
What I don't like
Too many povs/characters that didn't contribute whatsoever to the plot, one timeline explained by not two but often four people was a lot. I didn't even care for the police/DI, or any of the character. There was also no explanation on the killing.
Final thought
Almost dnf-ed but decided to skimread because I partially curious. Sadly, it gave no closure for me.
This multiple point of view thriller will keep you up reading late it was addictive and enjoyable! Couldn’t put it down
What an insane book! It’s a parents worse nightmare for their child to go missing but then also turn up dead. This book will have you on a rollercoaster with the emotions! The pain was so real. You can feel it through the pages and eyes of the parents! A real page turner!
