I love the narrator, Karen Cass. She strikes just the right note between keeping the pace of the story going and drawing out the emotional points. Really listenable and enjoyable. Thank you, Karen Cass!
This book was a weird one. I kinda felt the plot was a little far fetched for me and didn't quite tie together as well as I needed it to.
A brother and sister, estranged from each other, find out their mother who has been missing for a long time, is alive and well and a few hours drive away.
The sister is pregnant and the brother isn't coping so well with his life. Its a really weird story. I did enjoy it but I was left with wanting something it didn't give me
3 stars
"The Last Time I Saw You" by Jo Leevers is women's fiction, a family drama.
Georgie is about to have a baby. She sees a news story about an older woman who rescues a missing young child, and Georgie recognizes her from the picture. It is her mother, the one who left her and her brother when they were children twenty years ago! She decides she needs to go find her mother and talk with her. After some travel issues, she contacts her estranged brother, Dan, to help her. The story is a lot of travel and talking.
The audiobook is narrated by Karen Cass. She did a pretty good job, but a couple of the male characters sounded almost identical, which is confusing.

A good, but at times hard listen due to some of the difficult subjects involved, but not gratuitous. Georgie and Dan (sister and brother) haven’t spoken in two years. Both are carrying so much from their childhood and want to and are afraid to reach out for various reasons. When their long lost mother is seen on the news Georgie knows she must do something. Though she is due to give birth very soon and her husband is on an international business trip, she reaches out to Dan and off they go looking for her. There are a lot of issues they haven’t talked about in years and through their journey together much comes to light. They discuss so many difficult subjects and learn so much from and about each other. So many things they believed about their parents and childhoods were not as they seemed, they discover who their parents and step mother really were, about the reason their mother really left, suicide and those left behind in its wake, stalking, sexual assault, blocked memories and more. And yet, they manage to find their way back to loving siblings and reconnect with their mom. I listened and liked the book, but it was definitely a heavier fictional listen. Well written and narrated.
I liked this book, I thought the relationship between the brother and sister was the highlight. I was a little frustrated at times, because the misunderstandings and everything else could've been avoided and this whole story wouldn't have happened - it would've just taken some bombshells early in the story. Anyway, overall a good book!
Secrets and lies can break a family. And the Brown family is broken. Honestly, there are generations of issues at play here, shaping each person. This story is about Georgie, who is two weeks from giving birth to her first child, trying to find her mother- who has been missing since she was twelve. She needs her estranged brother to help her on her quest. As they search for their mother, they start the healing process.
I love a good family drama. This one was a bit different because the present day portions all take place in under a week. And for the most part, it is only Georgie and Dan present. I honestly enjoyed Nancy's chapters more, as it gave a better understanding of everything. Where Georgie's chapters were more about the impact, Nancy's gave the backstory.
I had a real hard time with <spoiler> the fact that Georgie and Dan really never had a moment with their father, confronting him for all of his decisions. </spoiler>
Karen Cass narrates the audiobook and does a good job.

The Last Time I Saw You
Jo Leevers
Georgie is due to give birth in a few weeks. With motherhood at the forefront of her mind she begins to think about her mother who walked out on Georgie and her brother Dan. Georgie worries she will panic and follow in her mother’s footsteps. Georgie’s husband is out of town on business. She runs on to a story on social media concerning her mother, Nancy, who is a hero for rescuing a child who was lost on a Scottish island. Georgie turns to her estranged brother to assist in finding their mother. Nancy and her brother have not spoken in two years. They were close once upon a time. He agrees to accompany her on this quest for answers. The journey to find the answers to many questions comes with a price. Secrets will be revealed.
Nancy prefers her own company to that of others. She lives on a secluded island off the coast of Scottland. Nancy’s life was not an easy one.
This story is told from two points of view, Nancy’s and Georgie’s. A time period of a little over 30 years is covered. This book shows so many emotions: grief, ire, anguish, gladness, blissfulness, expectation, and love. This story establishes the importance of creating your own family, of letting go of the past, the importance of compassion. There are some triggers to watch for in this book: drinking problems, intimidating influence, influences, desertion, separation, aloneness, death, sorrow, stalking, emotional exploitation, and relationship complications. The narrator, Karen Cass has a beautiful, expressive voice; she carries the passions and complexity of the story

The Last Time I Saw You by Jo Leevers and narrated artfully by Karen Cass is a compelling tale of a family coming back together in the strangest of circumstances. Throughout the journey, secrets are unearthed, uncovered and resolved. New life is on the way and new lives to be built
Georie is about to have a baby, her first, when she ses a news report about a strange woman who has rescued a child. A loner on a remote scottish island, who disappeared from the limelight of media that had been focussed on the search. However, that is not just any vagrant, she is sure that is her mother
However, Georgie's partner is away for work and she has no way of getting from the South-West up to Scotland, no way apart from her brother Dan, who she has not spoken to in two years following the passing of his closest friend Finn, and Georgies then boyfriend, the man that came between their close bond
Georgie and Dan used to be so close, even more so after their mother walked out on the family, only sending one postcard to each of them, with exactly the same message and not a word since. Or so they thought
The road trip unearths a lot of secrets, not least the actions of their father and stepmother (who is a boss! Absolutely loved her by the end), the mysterious (and very ick) Gerry, who is the villain of the story and their mother. Artfully told from the POV of af Georgie and Nancy, over three timelines, this is a belter of a novel
Slice of life, road trip, drama and gentle humour, defo a book to get your teeth into and enjoy. Loved it!
Thank you to Netgalley, Brilliance Publishing | Brilliance Audio, the author Jo Leevers and narrator Karen Cass for this noteworthy and utterly compelling ALC. My review is left voluntarily and all opinions are my own
This was something special. I wasn't sure how I felt about Nancy, having grown up without my mother, but her story got into my heart as I listened.
I loved the narration!
The ending is amazing!

This kind of an adult coming-of-age story told in dual timelines. Georgie is at the tale end of her first pregnancy when a viral new story about the rescue of a child, reveals the hero to be the mother who abandoned Georgie and her brother 20 yrs ago.
Determined to discover how and why their mother left, Georgie and her brother Dan, set off on a road trip to find Nancy, their absent mother.
Nancy has her own hard tale to share. This is a story of loss, abandonment and the resulting trauma in childhood, informs and forms adult personalities. This mainly focuses on healing generational trauma and is beautifully handled. I don't want to give too much of the story away and am unsure how to speak in more detail without revealing the salient plot points, so please excuse my relative brevity.
The narrator of this audiobook is Karen Cass. Ms. Cass does an amazing job of using her convey the emotions and depth of feeling in the narrative while simultaneously fading into the background. Perfect for this style of story.

I really loved “The Last Time I Saw You” by Jo Leevers, a poignant and moving story of looking for estranged family members, family secrets, loss and the possibility of reconciliation. I couldn’t put this engaging story down. I enjoyed the multiple perspectives from Georgie and her mother Nancy, along with the well-developed side characters, including a very loveable dog. The audiobooks is beautifully narrated by Karen Cass; listening to this book felt a bit like getting a hug. I will miss these characters.
