I really liked this but it is kind of strange, so be ready and open to anything! The characters are amazing. Somehow, they all interact in a way which makes complete sense. I loved the humour - the names, the language, the situations and how the characters navigated them. It kind of brought to mind an adult rated Bob Mortimer at times. Really great to see authors who are a bit different getting published and getting it right!
I long ago realised when reading a novel by an author new to me I should expect the unexpected. It doesn't always work but it certainly did this time. This has to be the craziest, weirdest, funniest, spy spoof I've ever encountered.
Forget Pollyanna and her ilk and meet Trudi, the nine-year-old petite but potent prodigy from Penislow Palace in Cornwall. I really admire an author who can make two animal characters as important and as interesting as the humans (especially in an adult book) and Fang (a cat) and Lady Casement (a parrot) are real stars. Together with Trudi they will take on enemies as deadly as Fyok Yu and Hon Ki to help save the world.
The author shows off unashamedly with numerous quotes both political and literate and throws in plenty of Russian phrases, a bit of Chinese, and an abundant use of the F-word. Politically correct it is not. Woke it certainlyisn't. But bl**dy brilliant just about sums it up.
If anyone ever decides to revive and reinvent the Ealing Comedies for a new generation this is where they should start.
