As a lover of the macabre and fancy cocktails alike, this recipe book seemed almost tailor made for me.

I found the factoids about New Orleans and it's culture surrounding death and hauntings to be really interesting.

The names of all the drinks also got many a chuckle out of me.

This isn't a beginners book by any means though and the list of specific brands/ types of liquor would be pretty hard to obtain if you live up the coast as I do. That's probably my biggest critique with the recipes.

I loved the maps in the back of the book as well. A lot of care was put into the research and I appreciate giving the reader some resources to help plan to see the sights in person.

Fantastic combination of wittily named alcoholic libations with recipes and spooky New Orleans history. I was lucky enough to visit New Orleans on Halloween for my birthday pre-Covid and so thankful I did as I got to see many of the places described in this book. I am not a huge imbiber of alcohol but even for me there were a few recipes in here I want to try (Caveau Cocktail and a Drunk Ghost especially) and several named cocktails that made me chuckle like Fang-ria.

If you’re a lover of unique cocktails, New Orleans, and/or spooky history then you’d enjoy this book. I liked the way the authors organized the recipes by section and included a map at the end of places mentioned throughout the book.

This is delightful! I like how the drinks are separated into unique categories, with many varieties to choose from. The introduction is very informative and helpful. The descriptions and instructions are also clear and concise, making this book welcoming to all. The photos, layout, and color scheme worked well together- the drinks all looked delicious! The supplementary information regarding haunted places in New Orleans before each section was also a nicely added touch to the book. I’m not sure how difficult some of the ingredients may be to obtain, but I can’t wait to try out the recipes. Any of these would be ideal for a Halloween party and would be sure to wow your friends/guests.

I loved this! I work at a public library and we LOVE halloween here so for passive adult programs we will be using these (without alcohol of course lol)

These recipes look SO good!!! A few of the ingredients might be a little hard to find where I live but I might drive out of my way to make these for Halloween! The Halloween party this year is going to be so extra with these drinks, and I can't wait!

The whole book was also so pretty, I loved the pictures that were included with each drink. I'll have to order a hard copy of this when it comes out.

Hauntingly Good Spirits is a cocktail recipe book that dives into the different paranormal offerings of New Orleans. Each section is themed for the different paranormal areas of the city like the cemeteries and other haunted locations. Along with delicious, ghoulish cocktails each section has different notes on the historical haunted areas of New Orleans.

The cocktails look not only delicious but approachable for many different skill levels. The pictures in this book are gorgeous and really make the cocktails look like works of art. There are sections in the front of the book on how to make things like simple syrup. A lot of the brand names are those of local liquor companies which is great to support local businesses but I am not sure how many of those are available in other regions. That being said, this will be one I would want to pull out for the spooky season and make some fun drinks to really sink my teeth into.
