Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read this special story and give my honest review. I absolutely loved this heartwarming story of a hard working character, Max, becoming a billionaire overnight. And acquiring a family that he never thought he would have. Then he becomes acquainted with a reporter, Sarah. And she is the only reporter he he will give his rags to riches story to. She remains determined to give Max’s story the attention it needs and deserves but only when Max is ready. However, Sarah’s boss is not being patient and is wanting all of the story like now. I absolutely love how Catherine Bybee writes and she is becoming one of my favorite authors. I highly recommend this book and this author.
The second book in this adorable series and it was just as cute as the first one!
Max is so sweet and grumpy and he can't really believe that this is happening to him. He doesn't trust everything yet. And he's a bit scared to hope to finally have a family - siblings. So adorable. He had a pretty rough childhood. His mom left him when he was two and now he wants to find her and find out ... why? Why wasn't he lovable enough?
Ugh. Poor guy.
I really enjoyed reading this. It was so sweet and funny and cute and a bit heartbreaking and ... just great. I loved Max and Sarah so much and we see a lot of the people from the first book too. I so want to see this on TV one day. Poor orphan Max becoming a billionaire with a family overnight is just so adorable!
THE FORGOTTEN ONE was such a funny + cute + heartbreaking + just beautiful romance - I loved it! Can't wait to get Alex's story!
Catherine Bybee is a MUST read for me. There are just people in this world meant to write and she’s one of them. I devour all of her stories.
I knew immediately at the end of the last book that I had to read this one. It did not disappoint!!! I loved Max! He was a great hero. Lots of great character growth. The writing was top notch and the conflict kept me reading long into the night. The emotion of Max finding his family was heartwarming. There was great connection between Max and Sarah.
Overall, a great read! Huge thanks to Montlake and Netgalley for allowing me to read and review this book!
Gosh, what a wonderful story.
Max, raised in foster care even though his birth father paid his birth mother to raise him. Now he's confronted with his half-siblings and wealth beyond his comprehension.
Sarah, on the verge of losing her job as a tabloid writer since she won't write smut or lies. She's been given the job to track down the 'hidden' child of the Stone industry scion who is recently deceased.
Max still reeling from his upbringing and Sarah trying to do what's right. Max, who until recently had no one, and Sarah who has a tight knit family who loves her unconditionally. Can a relationship work for them?
Ms. Bybee knows how to put words down that just make a story come alive. I've been reading her books for years and am certainly a fan. The Forgotten One is another fabulous story of family, home, relationships, and honor. I loved it.
The second book in this series has Chase and Alexandra looking for a brother that they knew nothing about until the reading of the will. Once they find him the story goes back and forth between the new brother and his new life a woman reporter that he is working with and the brother and sister still working out problems with the company. You also have Piper getting ready to deliver the baby and wondering how the former wife got money to buy shares to be on the board. The story with the new brother and all that he does works for me though and adds to the story. Again wonderful characters to go along with a good story. Very much worth the read.

The Forgotten One
by Catherine Bybee
The Forgotten One by Catherine Bybee is a heartwarming second book in The Heirs series. Max, a working-class man, suddenly discovers he's the heir to a billionaire family. Overnight, his life is turned upside down, and he's thrust into a world of wealth, half-siblings, and unexpected challenges. Sarah, a journalist, is tasked with uncovering Max's story, but instead of chasing tabloid gossip, she’s determined to reveal the truth. As Max and Sarah dig into his past to uncover family secrets, their attraction grows, leading to a romance that’s both sweet and complicated. I loved how Max remained grounded despite his newfound wealth, and Sarah’s strong morals made her a great match for him. Their journey to healing and building a future together was touching, with themes of family, love, and trust.
This is a heartfelt, enjoyable read that fans of contemporary romance will appreciate.

One word…WOAH! This book really brought things full circle and I love that through it all Bybee gave us everything.
I have read these books since the first book and I didn’t know what journey I was embarking on and getting the last book has my heart filled with joy! These siblings have been through a lot and I love that they embraces Max and that Max let them in. It was amazing to see how much he had changed, how much he had grown since the first chapter. Sara was his other half in so many ways.
Sara is a mess! Never on time but she’s ready with a smile and an ear to listen. When she gets thrust into Max’s world she doesn’t expect to fall for the broody man. When they both learn to trust the other sparks fly and their relationship blossoms in the most.m beautiful way, but Sara is a reporter and Max’s life is what the tabloids want so will these two get their forever!?
One morning Max Smith woke up just a working class man doing his job and then by the end of the day he was a multi-billionaire when three people knock on his door to tell him that his father, who has passed away was billionaire hotel magnet and he has two half siblings. That is something that happens is fairytales, not to Max..
Sarah McNeilly is a journalist working for a tabloid that wants her to sensationalize the story about Max and his siblings and she only wants to write the truth without the gossip. and his surprised when her boss wants her to write it this way. The more she learns about Max's life, the more she wants the world to know the real Max and his family. But delving into the past will bring out ugly truths and heartbreaking past wrongs that may never bring any closure. And in looking into the past, Max and Sarah's attraction to one another grows until it becomes hard to keep the world from knowing how they really feel about one another and when some of the past come to light will it threaten to tear them apart...
I loved this second book in The Heirs series. Max is someone who goes from Rags to Richs, and stays the same guy he was before he knew who his parents really were and Sarah is a strong women with principals and just wants to help Max find the missing pieces of his past so that he can heal and hopefully they can build a future together, along with the two siblings he never knew existed and giving Max what he always wanted...Family.
Catherine Bybee does what she does best and weaves a story of two people who will get into your soul and want them to have the HEA they deserve as she brings their story together, with the magic of words she knows will have her readers feeling all the emotions of family, love, passion, heartbreak that ends with you wanting more of this series. .
This is the second book in the series and I didn’t read the first one. Now I want to go back and catch up. Max is the missing son of the Stone family. He’s doesn’t believe it’s true. He meets Sarah who is a reporter and that puts his guard up. But it’s just the beginning with their relationship. Loved this book and can’t wait for the next one.
I really enjoyed the first book in this series and couldn't wait for this one, and this one was just as good, this time it's the 'missing' heir's story, Max.
Max is just an ordinary working guy with, he assumed, no family as his mother had deserted him as a baby and he was brought up in care. But then he finds out he's heir to part of a billion dollar fortune and his life is turned upside down. Initially he doesn't believe it at all, and gets quite irate at his new supposed brother and sister when they try to tell him, but it slowly sinks in.
I really enjoyed how he slowly adjusted to his new lifestyle, all the while getting closer to his new family and an 'honest' reporter, Sarah, who also helps him investigate what became of his mother.
I don't think I've ever read a Catherine Bybee book that I didn't really enjoy! I can't wait for Alex's story next in this very enjoyable series.
I just finished listening to the audiobook “All Our Tomorrows”, the first book in this series and loved it. It ended on a bit of a cliff hanger and all I could think was I can’t believe I have to wait for the next in the series. To my absolute pleasure I was gifted the opportunity to read an advanced copy and literally read overnight! I loved everything about it. We get to know Max, the “missing and surprise” sibling. He is trying to find his place in his new found family. There is also Sarah, a tabloid journalist with a good and deeply honest heart. Together they navigate staying true to themselves, uncovering secrets, develop a relationship with each other and all of his new family members all while trying to figure out who is going behind their collective backs to potentially sabotage Stone enterprises and more. It’s a wonderful read that has left me wanting more.
The Forgotten One by Catherine Bybee is the second book in the series called The Heirs. The novel focuses on Max, the missing son of the Stone family. Max is suspicious and angry. He does not believe he is the missing heir. He is positive he is being scammed, but the more questions he asks the more he is beginning to believe them. His half siblings Alex and Chase are determined to include him in everything.
Sarah McNeilly is writing for a tabloid. She hates the fact that most of the tabloids write rumors as facts and is determined to not be that type of journalist. However it is clear that her boss wants her to write about the Stone family with a goal of uncovering serious dirt, even if it is not true. In her investigation, she meets Max and slowly begins a friendship with him. Using the information Max gives her to write stories about them, until her boss opens up a mess. A mess that Max and Sarah need to find their way through. The siblings close in and fight for their inheritance and the people who work for them.
I enjoyed the novel and the characters of Max and Sarah. I love how their siblings bonded together despite all the odds. The Forgotten One by Catherine Bybee is a great read.
Well another brilliant book by Catherine Bybee, she never lets me down. I am really enjoying this new series 'The Heirs', the characters are lovely and the stories keep you hooked. I like that we are reminded of the little twists that happened in the first book of the series. This one deals with the missing 'heir' which is great, so we can guess that the next book will be about Alex. Can't wait for the next in the series.
I have read books by Catherine Bybee before and really enjoyed them. Not so much with this one. Though the story was well written.
An orphan who finds out he is the son of a late billionaire, add the reporter sent to find information on him and you have a love story.
It was an ok read but it wasn’t for me.
I received a free copy of, The Forgotten One, by Catherine Bybee, from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This is the second book in The Heirs Series. Sarah McNally works for the tabloids, but has morals. I found this book to be ok, wasn't the best wasn't the worst.
In the second book of The Heirs series, bestselling author Catherine Bybee presents a captivating story filled with long-lost relatives, unexpected wealth, and romance.
Sarah McNeilly is a unique journalist in the tabloid industry who prioritizes truth over sensationalism. Faced with the threat of losing her job, she is assigned to uncover the identity of “Maximillian Smith” and his connection to the wealthy Stone family.
Max Smith, an ordinary workingman, finds his life dramatically altered when he discovers he has a family and immense wealth. As he grapples with this new reality, he becomes entangled with Sarah, who is determined to tell his story accurately.
The narrative follows Sarah as she investigates Max’s background while trying to maintain her integrity in a world that often prioritizes gossip. Max’s sudden transition from a blue-collar worker to a billionaire heir puts him under scrutiny from the press. To protect his newfound life and uncover his past, Max collaborates with Sarah.
As they work together to navigate the complexities of Max’s history and family dynamics, their professional relationship evolves into a romantic one. However, their growing attraction complicates matters as they face challenges that threaten their trust and future together.
“The Forgotten One” explores themes of identity, trust, and love against the backdrop of unexpected familial connections and societal expectations.
Book two of the Stone family.
Max Smith was unacknowledged by his father, deserted by his mother and brought up in the welfare system. On his death, his multimillionaire father leaves his considerable wealth equally to his son, daughter and Max. One day Max is a blue collar worker driving an old truck, the next he's gained a brother and sister and travels in private jets.
Sarah McNeilly, a journalist working for a sensationalist magazine, discovers the identity of the unknown son and to ensure the truth is written about him, Max agrees to give her exclusive rights reveal his story. Of course, the fact that Max is attracted to Sarah sways his decision over other journalists..
An entertaining read, now should I download book one or wait for book three to be published?
With thanks to Montlake Publishing and NetGalley for a complimentary copy of this book, this review is my personal, unbiased opinion.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ my favorite of the series thus far. After hearing and then briefly meeting Max in All Our Tomorrow’s I knew his story would tug at my heart. Boy did it ever. What I loved about the story was that while Max had walls up in the beginning, he slowly lowered them, letting Chase and Alex in. We experience their family come together and deal with the aftermath of Aaron’s death, as well as rally around Piper at a very pivotal moment.
Max and Sarah were a perfect pairing and I enjoyed seeing their romance progress as they work together.
Can’t wait for Alex’s story!
I really enjoyed this story, another step in the Heirs saga, where the forgotten, lost brother, max was found. Inherently, a fantastic relatable character, I rooted for Max from the beginning and Sarah was col too. As with many Bybee stories, black and white, good and bad is clear. There is a clear good guy and bad guy and I loved that simplicity when I read it for the low angst aspect. Hoping for the next one soon
Max and Sarah
This is book 2 in The Heirs series. Book 1, All Our Tomorrows, definitely needs to be read first. That being said, if you haven’t read, there might be spoilers so you’ve been warned.
The non spoiler part is, this and book 1 are fantastic reads! They are so captivating and you will want to read straight through. I highly recommend!
Now..
Sarah is a writer for a tabloid magazine. She loves to write but doesn’t love the gossip part. She vows to tell the truth in her stories and hopes to get a real writing job soon. Her boss on the other hand, is a snake. The more gossip the better, as long as he isn’t sued. So when he gets a tip about a certain Max Smith, he puts Sarah on the story.
Max is a blue collar worker and works hard everyday for his paycheck. His life hasn’t been easy, mainly during his childhood years, but he makes it work. Then he receives a knock on his door that will change his life forever.
Max never thought he would be sought out and the center of attention. This is how he meets Sarah..her looking for a story on his life. But there is a lot at stake and lots of things to unravel about Max, his past, and now his future.
Ahh..such a good read. I want to give details so bad, but won’t. Like stated, read book 1 first and then dive right into this one. I look forward to the next ones and hope we don’t have to wait too long. So good!
