Daniel Hurst returns following The Perfect Nurse (The Perfect Nurse #1) with the second in the series—THE NURSE'S LIE.
The rip-roaring saga continues with the two sisters, Darcy (now in Florida) and Pippa (Chicago), and partners in crime, with more twists, thrills, chills, turns, suspense, and lots of fun in this entertaining popcorn thriller!
About...
From the first book, Darcy is back. She is on the run in South Florida (my neck of the woods), hired by a handsome male customer, Parker, at the coffee shop to work as a nurse to take care of his elderly father, Joe, age 73, in the early stages of dementia at his modern condo with other retirees.
Joe warns Darcy about his son, Parker. Darcy is on a mission to uncover Parker's hidden truths, a task that will lead her into a web of mystery and suspense.
What are Parker's motives? Does he have a dark side?
Pippa has given Darcy a notebook book to help her with her memories. She was in a car crash, she was told and was robbed of her memory.
She has given her strict instructions:
~Never watch the news
~Never come back home
They communicate via post office boxes. Darcy trusts her family to know best.
This story is told from the POVs of Darcy and Pippa. They both are dealing with new stresses while running from the cops.
Pippa, who has a husband and a four-year-old son, is distracted and worried about Darcy's accident. Her marriage is on the rocks, and she is stressed. She keeps secrets, hoping their crimes will not surface. She is her sister's best friend.
Something happened before Darcy's accident. Laurence and her colleague Eden were involved in a sinister turn of events while she was caring for Melissa, the wife. Things turned dark on the way to report a crime to the police. The crash that changed their lives. It was self-defense. But who would believe them?
Pippa, driven by her love for her sister, becomes her partner in crime, determined to keep her safe at any cost.
The police are looking for two women as persons of interest. The news is bringing back some of her memories. Pippa is trying to juggle their secrets from her husband and their mom and dad.
Darcy and Joe have more in common than they know. Darcy has amnesia, and Joe has memory problems. They make a good pair. I loved Joe!
Then Darcy realizes her notebook, which holds crucial information about her past and the accident, is missing. In the wrong hands, this could be devastating.
Pippa realizes her Dad found Darcy's diary pages hidden beneath the floorboards in Darcy's old bedroom. The mom calls and she is hiding someone in the study.
As the secrets close in and the bodies pile up, the danger escalates, keeping the readers on the edge of their seats.
From Florida to Chicago, both are off the run again. What will become of the two partners in crime? Will they be able to find one another and stay under the radar?
My thoughts...
Daniel, you certainly know how to entertain! In this wildly fun mystery series, with plenty of dark humor, the author cranks up the suspense from Florida and Chicago as we hear from nurses Darcy and Pippa (sisters and partners in crime). So much fun!
These two are in a heap of trouble, and now the parents are involved, so they have to let the parents in on all the bad stuff.
I loved Joe, and the drama between Parker, Irene, and Darcy in Florida was laugh-out-loud. Then you have Pippa, who steps up to the plate like a rock star to take care of all the loose ends in Chicago, now with the parents and hubby involved.
So will Pippa and Darcy be able to find one another? We will have to wait until Book #3 to find out! I am enjoying this fun series. Do not take it too seriously. It is meant to be fun, wicked, and wildly entertaining.
Recs...
This is for fans of the author and those of Freida McFadden, Kaira Rouda, Elle Cosimano (Finlay Donovan Series), Emily Shiner, K.L. Slater, and Miranda Rijks.

"The Nurse's Lie" is the second instalment in "The Perfect Nurse" series. Although I have read the previous book, I believe this one could also be enjoyed as a standalone novel. This instalment is fast paced, brimming with twists and turns that kept me captivated throughout.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for my ARC.
The Nurse's Lie is book 2 in The Perfect Nurse series by Daniel Hurst. You can read this as a standalone, but it's more enjoyable if you've read book 1. Pippa is left in Chicago with her husband and son as well as her parents, while she sent Darcy to Florida to get lost. She was worried her sister, Darcy, would be arrested for murder. It was self defense, but Darcy has a traumatic brain injury and her memory is impacted. She has no long term memories and loses her current memories in a couple of weeks. Pippa's parents are very upset with her as they don't understand why she helped Darcy to leave. Pippa can't tell them the truth or can she? Not even Pippa's husband knows what went down.
What if you sent your sister to Florida to protect her and she finds more trouble there? Pippa made Darcy a notebook with pictures of her parents and her so that she would remember them. She also wrote a page of instructions that Darcy is to read every day when she wakes up. There are 2 rules, never watch the news and never come home. Can Darcy follow those rules, will she? When Pippa and her family are threatened by someone from the past, how will they deal with it? Will they be safe? Will Darcy be found? When a body is found in the lake, will the police catch on to what really happened? Will Pippa and Darcy's family be safe?
This book is incredible at building the suspense more and more. You reach a point where nothing else matters but finishing this book! I love The Perfect Nurse series and look forward to the 3rd book in the series. Hurry up and write it, Daniel Hurst because I can't wait long with that cliffhanger! I'd like to thank NetGalley and Bookouture for an advanced copy of The Nurse's Lie in exchange for a fair review. I rate The Nurse's Lie 4 stars with a high recommendation. If you love a thriller, this is the book for you! The Nurse's Lie is available now and should not be missed! #TheNursesLie
This book is the sequel to the Perfect Nurse, and, in some ways, it wrapped up many details from the first book well. However, I felt that the story line was more unrealistic, it was more predictable, and was overall lacking compared to the first book in the series. It felt a little “cheesier”. I felt that the main characters made a lot of unrealistic choices and that the circumstances were more unbelievable. The ending felt more abrupt with a lot of loose ends left behind, presumably setting up for a third book in the series. I really wanted to love it, as I have now read multiple books from this author, but this one just fell a little flat for me. It was still an interesting read, but was definitely not my favorite. I would consider reading a third book in this series, if it was written, to see how the loose ends were tied up. Thank you to Daniel Hurst, Bookouture, and NetGalley for the ARC in return for an honest review.
Daniel Hurst writes easy to read, entertaining psychological thrillers. It definitely helps to have read The Perfect Nurse before reading this one so you can get the full story of what is going on with both Darcy and Pippa. Although distance now separates the 2 of them, they still remain in contact and things don't quite go as planned. These ladies just can't catch a break... everything seems to catch up with them. This one had some good twists, even though they were a bit far-fetched. You need to read it for entertainment knowing that the author really takes some liberties with things that happen.
This is the second book in the The Nurse series by Daniel Hurst who has a talent for truly twisted thrillers! This time we are following Pippa more closely and Darcy at a distance. Both have hard pasts but only one remembers them. Onto #3!
Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for this ARC!
4.5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
✨ Cliffhanger 2.0
✨ Another dilemma for the family
✨ Thriller and Suspense
✨ The story continues with the 2 sisters . Darcy and Pippa, the story comes into two person pov.
Darcy continues to lost her memory and finding a new life in Chicago. Pippa on the other hand still being the best sister she is even though her own family/marriage is going everywhere.
✨ Lots of new characters here that doesn’t connect on the first one which is quite interesting, the story did show how Pippa as a sister do care to the family.
✨ one of the best lines I like so far is when her mum (Scarlett) did something funny inside there home when someone invaded their peace. I was chuckling so hard.
✨ It did quite draggy at the end, but it keeps you on the loop on how everybody was on board now. With the dad, mum and even his husband. The book can’t be read standalone and must read the first one.
A massssssivee cliffhanger again and I couldn’t wait for the next😊
Thankyou @bookouture for the opportunity to read this arc for a honest review.

The Nurse's Lie is book two in The Perfect Nurse series by Daniel Hurst.
This is another enjoyable, entertaining read from Daniel Hurst.
Easy to read and fast paced, with twists to make the reader keep guessing throughout.
This was such a fun read. Hurst’s medical thrillers are the best and this book is a great one to add to the pile.
Thank You NetGalley and Bookouture for your generosity and gifting me a copy of this amazing eARC!
I found this book to be OK. I was entertained at first but then it lost me for the rest of the book. The book did do a good job at explaining everything that previously happened in the 1st book from what I can tell. I haven’t read the 1st book but I wasn’t confused on any information or felt like something was left without an explanation. I think you can read this book on its own if you really want to. I can’t quite put my finger on what made me lose interest but I felt like this story wasn’t for me.
Sadly this book did not do it for me but hopefully someone else can enjoy it :) It is a fast read for anyone looking for a thriller for any trips.
Thank you to the author, the publisher, and NetGalley for this e-ARC.
The Perfect Nurse is back and still having memory issues. In this second book Darcy has relocated to Florida to escape from the problems in Chicago. She has a small notebook with a few facts and photos to act as a memory device and help her keep in contact with her family via a PO Box. Her new job as a carer for a man with early Alzheimer's seems like the perfect gig. Time will tell
Meanwhile Pippa is dealing with the Chicago scene and things are not going well. Her husband is angry about the secrets she is keeping and her parents are self-destructing in front of her eyes. She is stressed already and things are about to get worse.
Daniel Hurst keeps us on the edge of our seats as we watch the action play out on two fronts for the Miller family. Will Darcy be reunited with Pippa and their parents: Dr. Adrian Miller and wife Scarlett? Looks like we will be hanging on this cliff until Book 3.
Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for a DRC in exchange for an honest review. Happy Publication Day!
“The Nurse’s Lie” by Daniel Hurst is a surprising 4-star read! This is the second installment in the Perfect Nurse series, and I enjoyed this book a lot more than the first. The story continues with Darcy and Pippa after the harrowing events that happened at the end of the first book. Even with Darcy and Pippa separated from each other, they can’t seem to keep from landing right in the middle of trouble.
The chapters mostly alternate between the perspectives of Darcy and Pippa, treating both as main characters. Some of the issues I had with the first book were less apparent in this one. You can tell the author is from the UK based on his vocabulary, but the events don’t feel like they are taking place outside of the US, so kudos to Daniel for making that work. The book is filled with twists and lies. Do some characters set aside their morals and ethics for their family, even when great atrocities have occurred? Yes, they sure do. Would most people do that? Probably not, but it does make for a good story.
Thanks to Bookouture, Daniel Hurst, and NetGalley for providing me with the opportunity to read this ARC and share my honest review.
WOW The Nurse's Lie (The Perfect Nurse Book 2) a psychological thriller by Daniel Hurst was outstanding.
Darcy and Pippa are sisters. Pippa is a Nurse married to Karl and have a four year old son Campbell but their marriage is not a bed of roses as they are going through a rocky patch.
Someone from Pippa's past comes back into her life and is ready to expose her secret and wants revenge.
Darcy is suffering from amnesia and her most treasured possession is a note book which contains photos and names of the people inside it. The person who had given it to her had told her to look at it every day in order not to forget them all. Darcy has ended up in a seaside town and is engaged as a carer for Parker's elderly Father Joe who is suffering from dementia. Unbeknown to Darcy Parker has a dark secret which Darcy is about to uncover with the help of Joe.
Life is hard for Pippa, Darcy and their parents as their past rises to the surface making them go on the run.
The Nurse's Lie the second book of the Perfect Nurse series and follows the story after Darcy leaves Chicago and moves to Florida to start a new life.
In Florida, Darcy is a nurse to a man named Joe and her boss is Joe's son Parker. Darcy is still suffering from amnesia and she has a notebook that will tell her some things written by her sister Pippa--never return back to Chicago and never turn on the news. One day, Darcy's notebook goes missing and Darcy wondered why her sister was insistent that she never watches the news...until she actually watched the news. Meanwhile back in Chicago, Pip is trying to forget about the past about the fact that Darcy killed Laurence and that she helped Darcy to bury the body. Now Eden returns and asks Pip to tell the truth but Pip kills her. What is going to happen next?
I didn't like this book as I thought I would. The first book is really interesting but the second book I felt like I was watching some unrealistic thriller show. However, the pacing was great and the story itself was a page turner. The story is told in the POVs of both Darcy and Pippa as they try to get away from whatever the crimes they have committed. The ending was a cliffhanger and quiet unexpected.
This book worth 3 stars overall--it wasn't that great but if there is a third book of the series, I will be curious to read what is going to happen next.
Many thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC. The review is based on my honest opinion only.
Loved reading the continued story of The Perfect Nurse. Great book, full of surprises. I always love all books by this author. They are always hard to put down because I always want to know whats going to happen next in the story.
This book picks up where the first left off, so if you haven't read the first, I suggest reading it prior to reading this one.
We start with Darcy moving to Florida to start over, after all that she dealt with in the first book. She is hired by a handsome guy to look after his father who is in the beginning stages of dementia. The father, Joe, warns Darcy that his son is dangerous, but Darcy doesn't know whether or not to believe him due to the dementia. Meanwhile, in Chicago, Darcy's sister, Pippa, and her parents are dealing with the aftermath of the first book. As the police begin to find bodies, will the family be safe?
I loved the first book and when I realized there was a second, I got excited. They are the kind of books that you can't put down. I will say that if you are someone who doesn't read epilogues, because I know there are people out there that don't, do it with this one!! There are a lot of things you will miss if you don't read it. It does end in a cliffhanger which makes me want the next one sooner rather than later.
Thank you NetGalley, Bookoutoure, and Daniel Hurst for the ARC!
There's a sequel, I didn’t know that going into the arc. So it would be better for new readers to read the first book first as it would fill in a lot of blanks, The Nurse's Lie. Although it can stand alone, knowing the backstory by reading The Perfect Nurse first can help to fill in the blanks in the plot. Even though it looks a little unrealistic, I read the chapters quite quickly. I was left wondering after the last page. There must be a forthcoming book! I'm curious to see what becomes to Darcy and her family. I am grateful for the chance to read this advanced reader copy, provided by NetGalley, Bookouture, and Daniel Hurst.
Thanks to #NetGalley and #Bookouture for the book #TheNursesLies by #DanielHurst. I loved this second book in the Nurse’s series. I read it in one sitting and could not stop. Secrets are all they have and now a woman shows up at the door. Puppy needs to find Darcy and Darcy needs answers. But can they find each other in time? I cannot wait for the next book!
The Nurse's Lie is a fabulous, gripping, twist filled and riveting second book in the Perfect Nurse series! 💉📖💜 Readers were first introduced to Pippa and Darcy in The Perfect Nurse. Darcy is still experiencing memory loss while taking on a new job as a helper for a man with Dementia. Pippa is a nurse, mother and wife, who tries to keep in touch with her sister, Darcy, who has moved away. Both sisters are doing their best to move on from the events in the first book but then a blast from the not so distance past comes calling....
The Nurse's Lie proved to be a fast, captivating and tense book which kept me on my toes and turning the pages! Coming in at under 300 pages, this book packs a punch. This book is full of secrets, lies, and shocking moments. Daniel Hurst throws in several twists and reveals which kept the pace up and my eyes glued to the pages. I loved the growing tension, the sense of danger, the unease and suspense in this book. There is never a dull moment, and I was fully invested in the plot wondering what was going to be revealed next!
I can't wait for the third book in the series! Daniel Hurst writes fast, and my fingers are crossed that I won’t have to wait for too long!
Gripping, dark, twist filled and tense!
I could not put this book down. I thought the first book in this series, The Perfect Nurse, was good but this one was even better. This book is written from the perspectives of Darcy and Pippa. Just when you think you’ve got it figured out, you’ll be thrown another twist. It will keep you on the edge of your seat, especially the ending. I can’t wait for the next one because there better be a third.
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read this book prior to publication.
Wow! Another wild and crazy installment in The Perfect Nurse series! I hope there will be another one. You definitely want to start with the first book as the story picks up where it left off in The Perfect Nurse. Darcy, Pippa, Scarlett and Adrian are back along with some new and interesting characters. These supposedly nice people have found themselves in difficult situations, and things just seem to be getting worse. Is anyone really innocent? I found myself rooting for people who had done some horrible things. It's a quick and easy page-turner, and the ending has left the possibility for more. Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture and Daniel Hurst for the digital ARC.
