Daniel is one of my favourite authors and this book, 2nd in a series didn’t disappoint. You could read it as a stand alone as it’s written well enough to fill in the back story without rewriting it. Lots of tension with twists and turns, loved it!

This book is the next in The Perfect Nurse series and another fabulous addition it is. I do think it can be read as a stand-a-lone though. Lots of twists and turns and lots of secrets to be had. What Daniel does best!! Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this early release in exchange for my honest review. To be published August 1, 2024. Be sure to grab it!

The second book in the series but just as good as the first. Likeable characters as well as those you love to hate. Fast paced with many surprises along the way. The only negative I have is that it ends on a cliffhanger and now I don’t know how long I need to wait for the next book.

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC.

The Nurse’s Lie by Daniel Hurst
The Perfect Nurse Book 2
Rating: 4/5
Release Date: 18 July 2024

I thoroughly enjoyed the first instalment of Daniel Hurst's The Perfect Nurse series, so I was eagerly anticipating the release of the second book. I can happily say that it did not disappoint me in the slightest.

In the second instalment of The Perfect Nurse series, Darcy, grappling with amnesia and the guilt of a past crime, relocates to Florida. There, she accepts a job caring for an elderly man in the early stages of dementia, hired by his attractive but enigmatic son. As Darcy navigates her new role, the father cryptically warns her about his son, leaving her to question whether the warnings are genuine or a product of his deteriorating mental state.

Meanwhile, Darcy's sister Pippa, complicit in helping Darcy cover up a crime, finds herself increasingly isolated from her husband and family as suspicions grow. When someone from Darcy's past resurfaces, threatening to unravel their carefully guarded secrets, the stakes escalate for both sisters.

"The Nurse's Lie" by Daniel Hurst delivers a gripping and emotionally charged thriller that hits all the right notes.

The storyline of "The Nurse's Lie" grips readers from the first page. As Darcy confronts increasingly perilous situations, her transformation from a compassionate nurse to someone willing to take drastic measures to protect her loved ones unfolds as a compelling journey.

In addition to its gripping suspense and intricate plot twists, the novel delves deeply into emotional themes that revolve around Darcy’s profound love for her family and her relentless commitment to shielding them from danger. Throughout the story, Darcy’s unwavering devotion to her loved ones serves as a driving force behind her actions and decisions. Her fierce determination to safeguard their well-being adds layers of complexity to her character, highlighting the sacrifices she is willing to make and the challenges she must overcome.

The narrative explores the depths of familial bonds, portraying the lengths Darcy will go to in order to ensure her family’s safety. This theme resonates throughout the novel, underscoring the importance of loyalty, sacrifice, and resilience in the face of adversity. As Darcy navigates through the twists and turns of the plot, her emotional journey becomes intertwined with the overarching suspense, creating a compelling blend of thrilling suspense and heartfelt sentiment.

Ultimately, the novel not only captivates with its thrilling storyline but also resonates on a deeper level by portraying the complexities of love, protection, and the enduring strength of familial ties in the midst of danger and uncertainty.

The expertly crafted pacing propels the story forward, with each chapter propelling readers deeper into the narrative and leaving them eagerly anticipating what comes next. I have read a lot of books by Daniel Hurst and The Nurse's Lie which is the follow up to The Perfect Nurse is a great continuation to what seems will be a series.

Many twists, turns and a story full of lies and secrets from the first page all the way through to the last page. I can't wait for the 3rd book as this is a definite recommend

Thanks Bookouture and Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own and isn't influenced by anyone else

Darcy has memory problems. She knows this because she cannot retain memories for more than a few weeks before they fade. Amongst her few possessions she has a notebook with photographs and names in it, these people are supposedly her family. The notebook also contains two definite instructions.....do not watch the news, and do not return home, and there is an address of where home apparently is.
Darcy follows the instructions because she is afraid of what she might find out if she doesn't. She is given a job by a man she meets, who asks her to help him care for his father, who has dementia. Darcy agrees, but while sitting with him one day, he has the news on TV, and Darcy sees it!
This is a roller coaster read, I couldn't put it down. The plot gripped and drew me in, so I couldn't wait to see what happened next. 5 stars.

You know you're onto a winner with Daniel Hurst. I loved the first in the series, The Perfect Nurse, so when this became available couldn't wait to read it. So many twists and covered a lot of the previous book so could have been read as a stand alone book, but after reading them both - can't wait for the story to continue.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for an ARC in exchange for my honest opinion

Another page turner from Daniel Hurst and a fantastic follow up to The Perfect Nurse!!

Darcy and Pippa are back again in this follow up thriller! I enjoyed the character development and learning more about each of these characters. Parker and Joe were new characters introduced in this book. Darcy finds herself taking care of an older man named Joe in this book and I really loved his character. I found him to be sarcastic and witty.

This book is great from the jump. This book has one of the best opening chapters I have ever read and hooked me immediately. I suggest you read The Perfect Nurse first, so you are able to follow along with this book. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and can’t wait to read all of Daniel’s other books I’ve missed.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the ARC!

2,5 stars rounded up to 3. So this is the second book in The Perfect Nurse series. I gave the first book 3 stars, so this one was about the same for me as the first one. I don't think this book is a stand alone, as there is too much to know from the first book to go into this one blind. Darcy has fled Chicago and gets a job offer from a very handsome man taking care of his father who has dementia. However is this job offer with this handsome stranger too good to be true? Darcy still has no memory of her past. She can't remember what happened last week or months ago. All she has is a journal from her sister, Pippa, telling Darcy don't watch the news and never come home.

Meanwhile things are piling up for Pippa. Her marriage is falling apart as she's keeping a huge secret from her husband and her guilt of disposing a body is weighing heavily on her mind.

I usually like Daniel Hurst's books. Some more than others. I just cannot get with this series. I'm not sure what it is about the story. Maybe the fact that I really have to suspend all logical thinking. It is so far fetched that it kind of ruins the story. The total amnesia is annoying too. It ends in a cliffhanger so I'm sure there will be a third. I gave the second book a chance because sometimes the first book in a series starts off slow. I really doubt I'll be reading the third one. Many people liked this book and I'm sorry for my low review. Also, it's hard to get with a British author writing as if he's an American. Words and phrases are just wrong. I do, however, recommend this book as many like it. It's just not for me.

Thank you t Netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC. I greatly appreciate it.

A brilliant sequel, this one had me racing through the pages to find out what would happen next. Tense and thrilling and full of shocks! I can't wait for the next one now!

Darcy is still dealing with amnesia and has relocated far away to Florida to stay out of the way of the mistakes of her past before they come back to haunt her. She ends up working as a caregiver for a man named Joe—hired by his son, Parker. Joe warns Darcy about Parker and tells her to be careful because he is keeping a big secret. Darcy isn’t sure if Joe is just making things up due to his state of mind, or if she could actually be in danger too. Meanwhile, back in Chicago, Pippa is struggling to make peace with her past decisions and the role she played in the crime. Her relationship with her husband is ruined because she’s keeping secrets, and everything is only going to get worse.

More death, cops raiding, Darcy struggling to remember where she came from or who her family is, failing relationships, secrets, and revenge. Once again, I couldn’t put this Daniel Hurst book down and flew through the pages. I really enjoyed the first book in this series, The Perfect Nurse, and needed to find out what happened next. One of the main reasons why I didn’t rate this higher was because I feel like we were not given enough of a conclusion. It left off on a big cliffhanger which is good because I will certainly read the next book, but I was left frustrated and with unanswered questions.

Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read this ARC. All opinions are my own.

This book was pretty good! I enjoyed the suspense and mystery of it all. It’s about a girl with amnesia trying to figure out who she is, what she’s done, and what she is capable of doing. It was a quick, easy read. The ending had me wanting more!

This is the perfect follow up to the 1st book in the Perfect Nurse series.
Daniel Hurst can do no wrong at the moment and I’ve loved all of his recent books.
This book is fast paced, intriguing and comes with plenty of twists. It’s a fantastic domestic thriller that I’d definitely recommend.

The next book in the Perfect nurse series packs a punch in the same way you would expect any book by Daniel Hurst to do. Complete with extreme situations, unlikely coincidences and a few tense moments it continues the story of Darcy and her extended family. Much of the story continues on from the first book although now there are a few added threats as Darcy returns to the world of nursing and faces a new patient with some challenging family baggage. Fun and quick read for anyone like me that enjoys the occasional popcorn thriller. Thanks to netgalley and bookouture for letting me read an advanced copy in exchange for a review.

I loved this book as much as I loved the first one! And there will definitely be another. This one kept me gripped from start to finish and ended on somewhat of a cliffhanger! Thank for Daniel hurst writes fast because I can’t wait for the next one!

In this, the second of The Perfect Nurse series, Darcy, having killed someone and still dealing with amnesia, relocates to Florida where an attractive man hires her to look after his father who is in the beginning stages of dementia. The father warns her about the son. Are the warnings real or a figment of his condition and is Darcy in danger? Meanwhile, sister Pippa, having helped Darcy dispose of the body, is becoming further and further estranged from her husband and family because they know she is hiding something. When someone from Darcy’s past surfaces, the family’s involvement deepens.

OK. I admit it. I am addicted. I could not pass up this second in the series by Hurst just as I couldn’t pass up all the books in The Doctor’s Wife series. I call them popcorn thrillers and I couldn’t resist…I just had to find out what happens next for Darcy and Pippa.

This one raises the question, how far would you go to save your sibling, your child, your self….not necessarily their life, but their risk of being locked away in a penitentiary for life.

Written in the same style as the first one, this story was really over the top and presents a dilemma for me. Can I cure my addiction or do I have to read the next one to find out what happens after this cliffhanger ending?

I love everything Daniel Hurst writes and I hope he blows up like Freida McFadden has! He has such good twists and turns and this one was no exception. This is the second book in the series and picks up where the first one left off so yes, you do need to read the first to get maximum enjoyment! I can't wait to listen to this one on audiobook! and I am sooooo excited there will be a third book! It does end off on a cliff hanger which is both enjoyable and sooooo annoying because I NEED to know what happens next!!

While you're waiting for the third one, I highly recommend "The Doctor's Wife" series which is complete and soooo enjoyable!
This author is what I call a popcorn thriller! You know you're in for a good time!

THERE'S GOING TO BE A THIRD BOOK!! My excitement over this is surely palpable...ha! It's not often when I find a sequel to be better than the original. I loved book one, The Perfect Nurse, but I think The Nurse's Lie takes the cake. The story continues where the first book left off, and it was one hell of a ride! Hurst blows my mind with some of his plot twists. Like, where does he come up with this stuff?! I absolutely loved it! I was completely riveted and could not read this book fast enough. And of course it ends on a major cliffhanger. Not nice, Daniel!! I will be eagerly awaiting book three now. Fingers crossed that it becomes available soon.

This was an intense, nail-biting thriller that you won't want to miss! I highly recommend! You don't have to read book one first, but I definitely recommend it for the complete backstory.

Thank you to the author, Bookouture, and NetGalley for granting me digital access in exchange for my honest review!
